After owning a Durga for over two years i've coming to a conclusion. DB-01 is a mat track car. It doesn't like dirt at all, it's a nightmare to clean! I think there will be many disappointed people who bought this. Very nice car but after the dirt gets in, it's not a very nice at all. I have a lot of spares and hop ups for it and sure it's a keeper but pretty exhaustive/expensive to maintain when you have few hop ups. When i bought this over two years ago, almost no one ran it and is it because it's non familiar to hobbyists or was it the belts what deterred people, dunno. If you want a easy maintainable 4wd, look for something else. Kinda funny that after these vids, all the Durgas vanished from ebay. Bought mine 170€ , now the prices are from 250-500€. Not worth it.

Wow thanks for your honest review of the Durga my friend. I haven’t really ran mine in very dirty condition so I have no idea what the clean up process would be. But I have ran many cars on sand at the beach, in my experience it’s just not worth it. 20 minutes of fun, then days of trying to get it clean up 😭😭😭

@@TAMIYALegends I had to write something because kinda fed up with some channels are not telling the truth about cons. Not you Glenn. 😎 Review is a delicate thing, for some it's an opinion and for some it's facts. The best way to recommend an RC car is to get ENOUGH EXPERIENCE from it and not the way " I highly recommend this xxxx car" after driven like 5mins with it. 👍🏻 People are usually biased on some brand or opinions ,nothing wrong with it but you have to remember that you are kinda "selling" these cars or whatever parts in includes. It's sad to see some channels going only for show and not giving whole picture and facts. Show is nice when it's not the whole meaning of it. I'm not ranting but i think people should wake up. These times are hard for everyone of us and we need to have hobbies 👊🏻 Honest reviews are the salt of these videos. Thank you Glenn!

Completely agree with this comment. I too had a DB01 with loads of hop-ups fitted but it was always a constant pig to work on and not rewarding at all. I did find the Baldre bodyshell better at keeping the dirt out compared to the Durga but still it always found its way into the internals. Also yep the front wheel hexes are horrendous, the kit as stand has dog bone front axles which will always fall out so universal shafts are pretty much required out of the box. Another thing it needs to get the most out of was the centre slipper clutch which again is another hop up option. Better shocks also another hop up option. Alloy steering rack another hop up! I ended up spending way too much on the DB01 to even get it remotely competitive and reliable but it was just a waste overall when I could easily have picked up something else for a lot less and a lot easier to work on. Sold the DB01 eventually and I honestly don't miss it at all. It did look nice on a shelf though :P
@TheEchelon
@TheEchelon Жыл бұрын
I always melted my ball diffs and the slipper clutch made it not snappy at all. I had a 5.5 turn brushless LRP system in it though, could've been part of the problem lol.

TAMIYA Legends yes, I have one of the earlier version and I modded right away. I was able to buy a used DB01 on ebay, and it came with TRF501x balldiff metal outdrive. Took one and swap with my stock diff as well as the aftermarket shocks that came with (I should have kept the whole car).

This is a great buggy. Its basically a plastic version of the TRF 501X /511. It was derived from that chassis. It had alot of adjustability and tuning in it, ( spacers and shimming). I ran one for years , solid and smooth n fast as you want.

Love the build Glenn. Belt drive buggies are great fun - quite smooth and quick to accelerate. I have to say that I cringe when I see grease applied to a part that's exposed to the dirt. Grit will stick to the grease and it will become like grinding paste. It's fine to use in a transmission that is sealed but no where else. Never in my 35 years tinkering with surface RC's have I ever applied grease to a dogbone. I don't care what Tamiya says, it's just wrong. I don't care for Tamiya leaving the belts open. Maybe the body well fit tightly to the chassis tub and keep debris out of the belts. I guess we'll see, right? Keep up the great work. I really enjoy watching your channel - especially now when I'm stuck at home. Cheers!

ixlr8 Thanks for your great comment my friend 🤩 Yes you’re absolutely spot on about the grease on the driveshafts and cups 😬 Regarding the two sections on this chassis with the belts showing, that’s actually my mistake, I’ve not fitted the two plastic covers 😳 it should be fully sealed. Those towers are very durable, so carbon ones are..well.. :) Remember to cut the wing properly like so that it doesn't rip the rear tower when crashing, dunno if the carbon ones resist the impact better. Another great and very entertaining video!👍. I hope im not being too controversial, but in my opinion, the car itself lacks the character and originality of the old 'classic' Tamiya cars. Even the box lacks the beautiful artwork. When you looked at an old classic Tamiya box, you knew straight away it was a Tamiya product even before you saw the logo. This box on the other hand, looks very generic indeed. Just my opinion though! God! i sound old!!! Ho-hum!!🤔. Anyhoo, great video and great channel. 👍👍

Penny pinching of the first water providing plain bearings (bushes) rather than ball bearings for the steering. How much would it cost extra per kit to give four ball bearings rather then four plain bearings , remembering that they are a 'mahoosive ' company that buys (or makes) bearings by the thousand (not just a pack of four from "Fast-Eddy") ? They must have decided that there is zero (or close to same) benefit to using ball bearings there . Especially if they can sell a hop-up part of ball bearings for the very small improvment Joe Q Public thinks ball bearings give them

@@TAMIYALegends no problems. I got the DB01 RRR version. It was the last version of it. Ditch the pin style wheels when you can, they stopped using them on the newer versions.

Now that's weird. Looks like they removed the little brackets for the stick batteries so you can fit lipos. Didn't think they'd ever modify parts throughout production.

Bizarre. TAMIYA builds. Dynahead. 26 plastic bushings. And shit pile of more supposedly metal bearings 🤔bushings. Tiny ones. And a few larger metal bearings. Which is like ummm. But you gave me ball bearings. Also two small metal bearings (bushings.) That lucky i had some to replace the plastic bushes (from a cc01) . Had to get 15 more ball bearings. And at 28 bucks aud. Not the rubber seal ($44) or ceramic ones.. ($60) if i did the tiny metal bushes to ball bearing another 70 odd dollars. As a 6x6 its cheaper tham the traxxas or axial 6x6 cars.. if i was bashing/crawling in mud then rubber sealed would have been needed. But i dont even drive in the wet. 😋🤔..
