Funny, I painted my Konghead the same colour! Great choice! - It's interesting how the friction shocks work perfectly well on this chassis. No need to upgrade to oil filled dampers for the first time in Tamiya history. Lol!
@AddamsPlayground

It is a great color and works super well on it. More than likely yours was the inspiration for it, I know I had seen one in purple somewhere before! It is one of the few that the friction shocks just work perfectly. I have to say the Mad Bull works on the friction shocks just as well. It is a ultra rarity though for sure! Take care Fil and Have a great rest of your week.

Man that looks sooooo much fun skidding around. This is another one i would love, the bus version though. But again, its a case of having to need over wanting it 😂 the body looks killer aswell by the way 👌

I have the King Yellow here to build as well, gonna wait to not eat up all my bearings at one time! The 6x6 kits are really fun, like I told another person... It is like a mix of the clod, the lunch box and a sprinkle of Saturday morning cartoons all rolled up into one truck! BTW, I did think about doing the body like the modern Optimus Prime but I did not want to get in to all that painting right now. Maybe on another body set down the road!

Thanks Joe, I am glad I went with the purple! It was fun out on the ice with it but I am looking forward to the yard being back to normal and I can really let it rip out there. I do have the king Yellow here to build also. I am going to hold off for a bit to not eat up all my bearing stash right away! LOL! I will be getting it done in the next 6 months or so. Take care!

It was super slick out there and without the 6 wheel drive it would have been really struggling to go anywhere! Once things melt away I will get it back out for another run to really show off what it can do! I am a little sore and my back is complaining but I will be fine. No more runs until this ice melts off though! Not gonna risk doing that again! I was walking and than a half second later I was looking at the sky trying to catch my breath! LOL!

Just on looks, I prefer the retrofuture Dynahead, but this purple monster is really nice. I have often thought about getting the Dynahead, but I have nowhere to put it, and three and a half builds still to do...
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 8 күн бұрын
I would like to get the Dynahead but seeing as it is more purpose oriented for crawling around I got the regular G601 kits first. It is a very unique kit and one of these days I will probably pick one up. There are larger trucks so they do take up a good bit of space!

This is one of my favorites… I locked up the axle diffs on it and it actually did quite well on the trails and in the water and mud
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 8 күн бұрын
I thought about putting some thick anti wear grease in the diffs to really stiffen them up but figured I am just going to rip it around the yard mostly so it would be better to have them a little more free for turning. I do want to get the Dynahead 6x6 at some point and see what it can do on the rocks and trails. With the portal axles it should be pretty good crawling around. I like the 6x6's, they look big and clunky but work really well and are pretty quick and agile!

It was a fun build and it did turn out pretty cool in the purple, thanks! Yes, loads and loads of them in there! It runs pretty quiet for something made up and 30% gears! LOL! The bearings are a painful expense but worth it to never have to worry about it. Once things melt away I will get it back out for another run to really show off what it can do!

Great presentation Addam. I like mine too. If you'll plan to upgrade the shocks, please keep in mind, that the rear shocks need the same adjustment as the front ones, because of the steering. The manual Tamiya gives you with the shocks is only for the four wheeler chassis and doesn't mention the 6 wheelers.
@AddamsPlayground

Thank Dirk, glad you liked it! I know you have had a lot of fun with yours! These 6x6s are a lot of fun and drive way better than they look like they should. They look big and clunky but are pretty quick and agile! Once things melt away I will get it back out for another run to really show off what it can do! Thanks for the heads up on the shocks. Maybe down the road I may upgrade them but they seem to drive just fine on the friction dampers. I think the tire do 75% of the shock absorption on these anyways! Take care and have a great rest of your week!

It was sliding all over the place and did well on the ice. It did better than me, I ended up falling on my rear out there on it so no more running videos until this stuff melts away LOL! I completely agree, 100% pure Tamiya quirkiness and I love it. These are so deceiving as they look big and clunky but get around really well and are pretty agile (when not on a sheet of ice!) so they are always hilarious to watch!

Thanks Mark! It turned out looking pretty cool and will definitely stand out in the collection! These 6x6 kits are pretty cool, they look big and clunk but actually run pretty well and are much more agile than they appear. I may end up taking the rear steer out as I think that is making it roll. My other one does not have the rear steering and it does not want to tip over as much. Once things melt away I will get it back out for another run to really see how it does and go from there. Take care and I hope you and Gruner have a great week!

I had looked at them for a long time as well and I got the Volve last year and fell in love with it. They looks big, slow and clunky sitting there but they scoot around well and much more stable than they appear. I have the King Yellow to do as well in a few months, don't want to eat through all my bearings I just got right away! LOL! I am still debating on the them for that one, I am thinking either a prison transport or the Simpsons them for it. Couple other background ideas too but I will get it figured out before I get to building it, at least that's the plan! LOL!!! I am really glad i went with the purple on it, I had debated doing the metallic red but I think the decals would work better with the purple. I have seen lots of them tossed around with fast motors without issues so I am sure it will hold up for a really long time with the mild torque tuned in it!

@AddamsPlayground Definitely better in purple than red. The bus is fun, there are so many options...kinda like the lunchbox, or a beetle. I can't really paint right now since it has been like under 20 degrees here. The winter here is great for building chassis, doing upgrades, gathering parts...but painting? 👎

Another great build Addam ....what a beast! Superb job of the body,and well worth going the extra mile around the roll bar area. An interesting chassis for sure,albeit a tad costly on the bearings front. Loving that hardware tray,very handy indeed....very professional! I was suprised just how quick it was for such a big heavy vehicle,and it looked huge amounts of fun on the ice. These are one of the small amount of models that actually dont need dampers.....the pogo stick bounce adds to the character. Hope that little roll over didnt damage the paint.....it made me cringe !😮 👍 👍
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 6 күн бұрын
Thanks James! I think it turned out pretty cool and I am very glad I wen with the metallic purple on it. The taping around the roll bars was tedious but worth it in the long run. The price of the bearing does add a good bit to the overall cost but are definitely worth getting. I think it stings more as I had as much invested in bearings in it as I did in the motor and ESC! It is nice to know I should never have to worry about anything in there and not have to open it up to maintain anything in there. Yes, I love those little magnetized hardware trays! I got one a year or more ago and then immediately got another one! Small kits usually only take one but the larger kits tend to take two. They are nice because I can move them around without worrying about screws rolling away and since they are magnetized they don't need to be very deep to keep everything in place! These trucks look very big, heavy and clunky but are way more nimble and quick than you would expect! Loads of fun to watch them rumble around! They are one of the few that don't need upgraded shocks, these and the Mad Bull are some of the best on the stock friction dampers! The roll overs, there was more than one out there, just left some very faint scuffs on the exhaust pipe everything else looked fine. I am sure it will be on its lid the next time out too but hopefully not on the ice and frozen ground. We are supposed to warm up some over the next week so I am hoping all this ice can melt away and I can get my yard and track back! I am not running on the ice again, I am still a touch sore from the slip and fall out there! These old bones didn't appreciate it LOL! Take care mate and have a great weekend!

Hi Al, yeah two bearing for each gear, two in each hub and a couple for the steering. I am just very thankful I buy them in bulk so it is a lot cheaper than the kits are. I think it stings a little more as I have as much in bearings in there as I do in both the motor and ESC LOL! It seems to enjoy sliding and spinning around on the ice, I didn't was much, it was super slippery out there and was just waiting to slip and end up on my rear again! Al of our snow from the beginning of the year is now just a slab of ice! Thankfully it is warming up out there and things are starting to melt. It is not a regular thing for you guys down south to get any snow much less enough to go out and play around in! The weather is certainly off the rails these days! I had a lot of fun the couple time I went out but this ice stuff needs to go on somewhere. Once I get the yard and the track back this and few others will be going out for runs!

I could definitely have a blast on a large icy drift surface like that. I think I’m gonna have to get me a Tamiya truck pretty soon. Other than my unbuilt. Clod, I don’t have any other trucks like that. I’m thinking the next one’s going to be a midnight pumpkin, the squash van, or a black edition lunchbox, or hell, maybe all three. 😮

It was fun but I did end up on my rear out there! I needed 6wheel drive LOL! I love building the Tamiya kits, or any kit honestly. Any of those kits are fun, I will say the Squash Van is not my favorite, it needs better shocks right away and tend to roll over a lot. The Lunch Box and Pumpkin do to but usually it is from wheelies gone bad and it just seems much less frustrating than having to flip the Squash Van over all the time. I just looked at the tracking and I have no idea why they have not gotten the helping hands to you yet, I am sorry I picked them for the shipping now. Hopefully in the next day or two it shows up. It said 3-4 day shipping when I sent it. Sorry it is taking so long.

Yeah, after running the Volvo dump truck and the Konghead around I don't see the need to upgrade the shocks! The tires are 75% of the suspension honestly so the shocks just help smooth it out a little more! I do not like the friction shocks on the Squash Van, it need better dampening or something, it tens to bounce way too much and get itself into trouble! The 6x6 kits are a load of fun, once it thaws out and the ice is gone I will get it back out for a proper run!

That looks like fun! The build looks great and I have to admit that purple is probably my favorite color (I have several cars painted purple). Personally I think, with that many gears, bearings are a must. The friction of bushings would use up a lot of your motor’s power. That is one funky looking truck, it looks a bit top heavy but, it looks like it runs fine. I’m glad we don’t get that kind of snow very often in Texas (it must be admitted that the Gulf coast is getting hammered right now) so snow is not that big a concern here, I hope you feel better after your tumble. I have fallen on ice before and it is no picnic. I have still not built my Christmas present, but will get around to it eventually.

These are great fun and I am very happy I went with the metallic purple, it looks great on here! These trucks are cool as they look very heavy, slow and clunky but they actual go very well and are pretty stable. I think most folks prefer the school bus version but of course I am drawn to the odd ones! Yeah, it has been fun seeing the coastal folks out in the snow, not too often I get to see friends in Louisiana out building snowmen and doing snow angels in their yards! LOL! I will be glad to see this slab of ice melt away, the snow is fun but the ice not so much. My back is still a bit stiff and achy but I am fine! It really caught me by surprise! One second I was walking and the next I was staring up at the clouds and trying to catch my breath! I wish it was on video but it was when I first got out there and was trying to get pictures of the truck (that I forgot to include in the video LOL). I am fine though just no more runs until the ice is gone! No need to rush the build, all that is going to do is make you start looking for the next one to buy! I speak from experience! LOL! That bamf looks good purple! I did mine black, then did a matte clear on the outside, so basically it looks like it's dirty, the time 😅 The rear steer is pretty cool, I had mine hooked up, but I also went with a Traxxas vls3 brushless, so the 4ws was a tad overkill at that speed. Yep, 40 dang bearings. God bless Fast Eddie lol
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 7 күн бұрын
Thanks! I am very glad I went with the purple, it works well! I like the idea of the matte black, tough looking and rugged but yeah, I can see where it could always look a bit dirty all the time too. Maybe it is calling out for some weathering and rust treatment??? I am going to have to get it out on the the dirt more to see if the rear steering is going to stay or not. Right not it felt a little more tippy than my other one does but that could have been the ground being frozen rock solid so once it thaws out I will get it back out for a proper run and see how it does. I am sure yours is a handful on brushless power but I have seen a few fast ones and they do surprisingly well! The bearing are more painful I think as I have as much in bearings in the truck as I do in the motor and ESC! Thankfully I buy the 1150 bearing 100 at a time from TRB and get a discount on them so a lot cheaper than buying them in the individually kits. $75 roughly for the 100 versus $50 for a Fast Eddy kit, still sting a bit when you go through close to have you order in one truck LOL!

I was not a fan of the way the Konghead looks, but I liked the way the King Yellow school bus looks. It is the same chassis/ gearbox. I put bearings in mine and also Tamiya aluminum shocks. I also got the clear chassis/gearbox and multicolor gears. With all of those gears spinning it looks cool. Not sure if you can get the clear gearbox/chassis today or the multicolor gears. Thoughts?

I have the King Yellow to build as well! I will get it don probably in the next 6 months, at least that's the plan! I have looked for the Clear gear box but I have had not luck un getting one. I can find the yellow and orange gears but the clear gear box has been elusive, even on buyee but I have not been on there in months. I think I am either going to do the bus in either a prison transport theme or a Simpsons theme, I have not figured that out yet.

It is fun and they generally come in squeaky clean which is really nice. I am sure you would prefer the nice weather year round you guys have over the snow anyways! You are not sidelined by the wet weather like we are so there are bonuses!

@@AddamsPlayground I have only ever driven my full size car once in the snow and that was at Lake Tahoe. I did not know it could snow there. Where I live, San Diego it does not snow. However, this year something very different is happening. It has not rained here in a long while. We usually get some rain in December, January, February and March. I am sure you have seen in the news the fires in Los Angeles. I am now starting to see some fires here. They are not big. Thoughts?

@@AddamsPlayground I have seen someone do the Simpsons theme on KZbin and it looked cool. I wish I bought 2 of those clear gear boxes, but I did not. You could also do the bus in an immigration theme too. I am talking about the buses the immigration service uses to transport illegal aliens across the border. I live in San Diego, which is a border town and I see these buses from time to time. However, if you do this you might offend some people. Just something to consider. Thoughts?

nicely done! do you have the dynahead too? any difference other than body? i saw they are both G6-01. personal style is leaning me toward the dyna
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 7 күн бұрын
Thanks! The Dynahead is the oddball of the group. It is the same chassis but it has portal gears in the hubs to lower the final drive ratio to be more like a trail truck/crawler. The Volvo dump truck, the Konghead and the King Yellow are all on the same rolling gear, just different bodies on them. I do want to get the Dynahead at some point as i am curious on how much different it drives and acts with the portals!

@@DudesRC The manual says to use the aluminum Tamiya 54670 shocks for it as upgrades. I would just find the 50519 or maybe the 50520 plastic dampers and use those, some thick oil and they would work great on it. They don't really have a ton of flex in the suspension travel so the tires and some oil shocks are going to be your tuning options for it.

@@AddamsPlayground last one! do you think the gears could take 2s brushless?
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 6 күн бұрын
@DudesRC yeah, I know a few that have brushless systems in them. Obviously I wouldn't go for a 7200kv but a reasonable 3800-4000kv on 2s should be fine.

How do you like that RadioLink Controller? How many cars can you link to it? I have an MX-6 that holds 10 but id like to get one that can hold more as i have all my Tamiya cars on it. And how's the price point on it? I was looking at the Spectrum DX-6 that hold 20 i think. But it is kinda pricey and so are the receivers. Your thoughts? And again another great video and thanks for taking the time to make them. Dave
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 7 күн бұрын
Hey Dave! So far I am liking it a lot. currently it will hold 100 kits and if I get a larger memory card it will hold 200. It seems overwhelming when you get as there are so many things you can do with it but overall it is very simple to navigate and get setup for each kit. I have not had a chance to really range test it any more than 50 yards just because I have not used it anywhere but the house yet and I don't have but so much clear line of sight to go much further. The price is up there, currently about $280 on Amazon and $220 on AliExpress. The receivers are not bad and there is a variety of sizes and channels from 4 to 8 and are better priced than the Spektrum ones are. I have multiple Spektrum radios and all work great but only have 20-30 model memory got kind of expensive to keep buying more radios. To be completely transparent, a person or two did say they had glitching with theirs but did not give a lot of details so I can't elaborate on what the 'glitching" was really. So far with 6 kits on it I have not had any issue with anything and I find it to be a very nice radio. I am glad you are enjoying the videos, many more to come! Have a great rest of your week!

@@AddamsPlayground I work nights and just got home hence the very early reply. Last question on this. Just looked at the RC8X and a bit pricey for the stuff i have. How good is the RC6GS V3 as a substitute for it? Plus i really like the Radiolink stuff cause the receivers are a lot cheaper than the Spectrums and the MX6 ones which are over 50.00 each!

@David-mf9bk I know a lot of guys during the speed runs last year are running that radio. It is supposed to have great range. I have not used one personally so I cannot speak from experience but it is a very popular one. Can't be bad if so many are using them!

@@AddamsPlayground Sorry to keep bugging you with this. But a question on the RC6gs receivers, which are the better ones, the ones with the gyro built into them or the other ones that have a plug that goes into them and then you plug the battery into it? Not sure if that made sense? Thanks for putting up with my questions.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 6 күн бұрын
@David-mf9bk you had me confused for a minute! The radios are the same, that dual ended plug with the small wire is a battery voltage telemetry plug. It goes inline of the battery to ESC to pass the voltage directly to the ESC and the small wire goes to the receiver to let it know the current voltage of the battery. With modern ESCs that have voltage cutoff on them to protect the lipos and the nimh packs tell you when they are dead it is something I personally could care less about. I can see this being more of a thing in flight or boats as obviously falling out of the sky or stuck in the middle of a lake with a dead battery is a bad day. Your car stops running, well you go pick it up like usual 😂 I'd get the best priced one with a gyro receiver and not worry too much with the telemetry plug.

Last I heard you cough in the video are you 90% done with your sickness Did it come with a silver can motor and you just decided to upgrade it Other than the body is there anything different between this and the school bus one I'm guessing they are both six-wheel drive I want to buy this one because it just looks cool but I didn't enjoy putting the lunch box together and this looks like a nightmare with all the parts Are you okay from your fall
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 8 күн бұрын
Yes, I am almost back to normal now, the cough still is there but it is occasional now where it as all day every day before. So I would say 90-95% back to normal. It did come with the basic silver can motor but I knew if could use a little more speed so I stuck the Torque Tuned motor in it. Other than the body and wheels they are exactly the same. The school bus just has grey plastic wheels where these are the black chrome plated. I enjoy building them and enjoy a change and a challenge (most of the time) so a new kit is always fun to do. This is very similar to other kits I have done but it did have some uniqueness to it that made it enjoyable. I am sore today from the fall, my lower back and my neck hurt and I whack my ankle on a edging board where I feel so that is scraped up and bruised. Nothing major, just sore and stiff and should be fine in a day or two, I am just not going back out there for any more runs until this stuff melts! LOL!

I like it, but it seems to me like a giant mobile gearbox.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 8 күн бұрын
100% it is, it consists of 38% gears! It is surprisingly quiet and fairly efficient despite having a dozen gear in it. You definitely have to run a light grease like the ceramic grease and not a ton of it in there or the stiction of the grease on the gears slows it down a lot! I like them as they look big and clunk but scoot around well and are pretty agile (when not on a sheet of ice!). Once things melt away I will get it back out for another run to really show off what it can do!
