Just for fun, my good friend Rob and I decided to speed test my new Tamiya LunchBox RC monster truck! It's mainly stock apart from a Core RC 15 turn brushed motor, an unbranded 60A ESC and full metal ball bearings. Tune in to see just how fast this classic and iconic Tamiya actually goes!
Thanks as always to Rob for his camerawork and infectious laugh.
Take care and keep on RCing!

Hi Mark, I was with Rob guessing 18mph - shows what I know ! But 21mph is good for an non aerodynamic Tamiya basher. It's a shame the company don't offer 15-20 turn motors as standard. The silver can 540's ( 27 turn I think ) are ok, but the 380's are a joke, especially for 1/10 Sand Rovers and Holiday Buggies. Love the colour of that shell - metallic mint green..😍😍. Have a good weekend mate - if the rain ever stops...👍🏻.

Hiya mate! Good guess, not too far off! I think it would be a bit faster if the rear wheels weren't spinning in the tyres, need to glue them! Yeah, Tamiya should speed up their stock kits a little, wouldn't really cost them much and the cars would be more fun out of the box. Definitely fast enough, now, 15T is a sweet spot. Thanks for the kind words, Hope your weekend is going well, even if it is a wet one! Cheers! 😁👍

The Tamiya Lunchbox is my favorite bashing Tamiya that I have in my collection :) I have a dirt tuned Tamiya motor in mine and it's a great choice for playing in the mud and dirt, even on longish grass the speed does not slow down

Great looking Lunchie Mark. Very 70's retro. I'd be very happy with that speed in my L-Box. I actually bought a Core RC 15t brushed motor for my Kyosho Rampage build last summer, but used a Traxxas 550 12t Titan motor instead. The Core motor is still new and unopened in my toolbox. It may end up in one of my DF-03 projects, or who know, it could end up in my LB !

Oh no. CGI and cheating again 😅 … Seriously though, that actually looked like it was going over 33. Looked very fast. Just build mine today … except for the body. Only the stock can motor - do you think the wheels and tires will do alright without glue stock speed? Such a funny build. Felt like building a Hornet that’s been eating too many burgers. And those shocks. Worst I’ve ever seen apart from the Grasshopper II. And that camber in the front with the swing arms. Couldn’t believe it. And that Hopper-Hornet gear box bang slam. … well, I had so much fun building it. Felt like building a cartoon-RC. Can’t wait to try it out. Looks like you two have a lot of fun with yours 😀 good video. I think I smiled every minute watching it 😊
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
Haha! To hard to resist cheating again! I did think it looked and sounded fast, and the speed meter doesn't lie! Fast enough for me, Mikael. I think it's best to glue the tyres, mine were OK for the first few runs and then started to slip. Yeah, it's a bonkers little monster truck, for sure. I don't think you can call the springy things shocks, they are shocking, though! But fun to see it bouncing about, I'm leaving mine stock as I think it adds to the fun. No point trying to get this thing to handle, it just isn't designed that well, and no matter what you do it will still wheelie, shake, wobble and bounce! But that's just the point - it really is a cartoon RC! I did shorten the travel on the front springs though, to remove that crazy camber. Spacers under the heads of the bolts (in the centre of the shock body) do the trick. Glad this video made you smile, it was a lot of fun to make. Best to you, mate! 😁👍

Hiya Mark. Hey I guessed 22mph so not far off. I reckon with the tyres glued and a few more goes it might do. Not much slower than my brushless one which goes 25mph as far as I remember. You can gear these up by using the Hornet gear setup. Not tried it as it's plenty quick enough for such a wobbly truck. Anyway, hope you are well mate. We've just got back from a trip to the Peaks. All very nice with walks and pubs. Didn't mention it on here before as I didn't want all and sundry knowing we were away! Terrific! Any tips on how to make the steering better? or is it something I just need to deal with? Cheers!

Thanks, dude! Sorry but I have just left mine stock, however I did put some rubber O rings at the top of the front shock shafts before assembly. This stops the clattering sound of metal against plastic, and also reduces the "droop" of the front wheels. It sits nicer with the wheels square to the ground. Not sure if it improved the steering though! All the best from Mark. Cheers!

Only last night I fitted a 15 t etronix in my new build purple rain neo scorcher! That for some reason pulls to the right on acceleration?? Maybe needs turnbuckle set?? What you thinking on it as you have a tt02b ? Great upload mate 🙏
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
Hiya, Cat! I think 15T is a good option for a Tamiya basher! Strange that yours pulls to the right, mine goes straight, but I have a few mods on it, including a little toe-in from the turnbuckles - might be worth a try. ATB, mate! 😉👍

Hey dude, excellent video. I've had a Lunchbox in my cupboard for over a year, perhaps I'd better build it. 😂 I have a GT tuned motor set aside for it, I think that'll be enough!

Hiya, dude! Oh yes that Lunchie is just begging to be built! That GT Tuned motor should wake it up a bit - hope to see that blasting on your channel in the near future. Take care, Bazza! 😉👍

Hi Mark, not sure how I missed this the other week but great speed from that lunchbox! How would you say this motor compares to the Tamiya TT and ST motors? Considering one for my Rising Fighter build 😁
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers for catching this one, Craig! The motor is great, definitely much faster than both the TT and ST, my Lunchie goes like a stabbed rat! The RF would be insane with this motor, in a good way. And it's only about a tenner! :))

Is that just normal cellotape? I think I would have a panic attack pulling it off the decals! 😬
@MarkBryanRC

Haha - yeah, I know what you mean - it is just Sellotape, but the decals are sealed under a layer of clear laquer - so it's all OK! Cheers, mate! 😎👍

@@homeworkpictureshq You are very welcome! Your video was great and I think we all have our own style of making RC videos. Your style is very cool. We must concentrate on developing our style to the best of our abilities. The only advice I would give is a general comment about any RC video, as the cars are so small, we need to keep the subject (the RC car) as big as we can in the video frame. Your close-up shots are fantastic! Best regards from Mark.
