The P-51 wing is less reflective because the wing panel seams were all filled with glazing putty from Acme, but the putty was red and so the whole wing was painted silver to cover it. The fuselage did not receive the same treatment and so was left as unpainted aluminium. This means that period Mustangs didn't really have visible panel lines on their wings, with the key exception of the gun access hatches for obvious reasons! Fab model, you've absolutely nailed the paintwork. I can never get metallic paints looking so realistic!

That’s a great job on the old Tamiya bubble top. I really like the restraint you had with natural metal finish. The less shiny effect you saw in reference photos of the wings is because the wings were painted with an aluminium lacquer. Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

Great metal finish - I agree about some of the overly patchy panel finishes out there. I will be trying a similar approach on an early EE Lightning but I've moved to water-based acrylics so will have to use something like Metal Colour.

Have you thought about using a Yahu, Eduard Look or any of the 3D decal versions of instrument panels? Just about every model variant of the P-51D/K/CAC Mustang is covered. Easy to use by either replacing the kit panel entirely or fitting to the front of a sanded down kit panel. Experiment with a panel from the spares box and then apply to the next kit you make. I was very wary of these things but after using a couple I am a convert. Definitely worth consideration to enhance your already great build.

Tamiya's canopy fits better than that in the open position. The aft end of the canopy on your model sits too high off the fuselage spine. Other than that a beautiful model. Keep up the good work.
@machmodels9 ай бұрын
Thank you for letting me know, any idea of what I might’ve done wrong?😄
@freemanreed52289 ай бұрын
@@machmodels Using the antenna rigging might be the problem. It's not allowing the canopy to sit properly. EZ line might help if you are so inclined to use it. I don't know if you have an Eduard canopy or not? When I built my Tamiya 1/48 Mustang I didn't bother to do any rigging with the antenna wiring. The canopy sat down very well as on the real aircraft. Anyway, good luck. I am building Revell's 1/32 Mustang and I most likely won't rig that airplane. But, who knows, I might!!!!!
