Great video. The super astute was my first "expensive" Tamiya I bought. The reason I got it was because I think it looks the most like an RC car from my childhood and what they should look like. I painted my super statute pearl white so it pops a wee bit more. But the rest is box art.

I like it. When I used to race, I would always use the 3 colour scheme. White, Dark met Blue & mix it up with a different fluorescent colour (red, orange, green, blue etc) every time I painted a new shell. Although all very similar, all very different.

Echoing a few others, I think the artwork is excellent. Very early 90s, very aesthetic, a really nice set of colours, offset with the grey shocks. I guess it's too late, but I'd love to see this or someone do the decal scheme in paint form. With a little metallic paint, it'd look super, super good. Another TRF look-a-like is ok...but like you said at the top, you've got a fair few of them already!

In my opinion, this is the best 2wd buggy Tamiya have ever made. Simple, everything works, and it drives very neutral. The TRF 201 is just a copy of an Associated buggy. ;) PS, you know how much I love Tamiya RCs, but as a person who raced for 25 years, I'd never touch ANY Tamiya to go racing with (outside an all Tamiya class).

Have you considered 58477 zahhak, it is to the trf201 what the astute is to a Dyna storm essentially. Driving quality of the zahhak is basically identical to TRF201. Add the slipper and aeration damper set and it’s a solid rig for slippery tracks and general bashing. I believe Tamiya recently did another manufacturing run on zahhak as they are everywhere in every hobby store near me at the moment.

For me it is either full vintage og full race spec. My curent runners being a AE B6d Club racer and a XXX BK2 with Novak system in it. The super Astute falls right between those two categories. So it has never been my taste. It is probably too modern with all the carbon stuff going on to be vintage, and at the same time I do not get that race feeling. But! There is a but. With the right paint it might be interesting, and I have to work with my feelings, and peak out of the comfort box. I'm thinking about painting it in the same colors as my two others to join the team. black or dark gray with metal flakes with orange window markings and the provided stickers.

I totally understand holding off until you are 100% sure of your plan for the car. I do the same. Can't go into it half hearted.

Yeah not that much to show you really, I only have 12 cars in the cabinets. I’ve moved a few on recently. Although I will be adding another 7-8 to it over the next couple of months 😊👊🏻

I enjoyed the video as always but I can’t agree with you about the colour scheme. The super astute box art colours are so of there time. While the early nineties colour schemes are deeply unfashionable at the moment, i don’t think it’ll be long before popular opinion changes to the style as it has to the 70s and 80s colours.

Popular opinion has nothing to do with Tamiya as I NEVER see anyone running Tamiyas anywhere I go except for me... 90s stuff has been coming back in style for the last 4 years

I hate the blue yellow pink decals,Technicolor crayola vomit! Lol reminds me of paper shell suits and Roland rat:) I'm sure you could transform it with one of your custom paint jobs! Most box art schemes I wouldn't change but to me it's like a visual peanut allergy reaction!!!:\

The kit does not have 34 bearings. It has 16 bearings. This is the Tamiya original bearing set for this car (part #OP1579). So you bought the wrong set, or the manufacturer of the set got it wrong.
