I highly recommend the Holmes Hobbies “Retro Sport” motors for anybody with a Clod they want to keep brushed. These motors were specifically brought to the market by a small company just for Clodbusters. I can’t find much on KZbin about these, so I’ll try to make a video of my own while the snow is still deep and convincing. I just had a pair of 17t 5 slots hit my mailbox today!
@gribly2 жыл бұрын
It also bothers me that you still use a regular #2 Philips screwdriver on these trucks. They are JIS, not #2, and you do see a difference with using factory Tamiya screwdrivers, makes it that much nicer. It’s like the difference between using the right socket on a stuck metric bolt vs using the closest equivalent SAE size.

Have you considered running the stock motors on 3s? A hobbywing 880 seems cheaper than 2 motors if you already have the 3s, but I don't know if the stock motors would hold up to 3s.

Isnt 1 motor suppose to be reverse rotation? So on 1 of the motors you installed....u would have to reverse the leads then if its not reverse rotation? Hey man loving the videos. Just started to build my Super Clolodbuster black edition never seen one until your videos and I'm hooked. I'm reading a lot about the steering being weak on these stock. Is there anything I can do to make it better while keeping it as close to stock as possible. Also do you recommend loctite for the metal screws and nuts?
@clodbusted17764 жыл бұрын
It’s funny you asked me that I’m actually working on a steering video right now lol. What I do is on the front axle steering bell crank there’s three holes, the manual says to use the middle position but I use the one that’s farthest forward closest to the bumper, it gives you quicker steering and a little bit more throw. Only thing is you might have to bend the tie rod slightly so the rod end doesn’t hit the bumper. The only parts I use threadlocker on are the three pivot ball screws on the trailing arm

You use the stock pinions with a 15t motor??
@Locoboy5150 Жыл бұрын
I would not recommend using the stock Tamiya aluminum Clod Buster pinion gears even with the stock 540 motors. I have never been able to get those to last very long so I do not even bother with them at all any more. Steel 32 pitch pinion gears with various tooth counts are not very expensive so I always just use them from day one in any new Clod Buster project. I'll let Clodbusted answer your question about using the stock aluminum pinion gears with these particular HPI motors though as I have no experience with that specific motor set up as shown in the video.
@ShenRC4 жыл бұрын
😁👍 Sweet upgrade! Nice tip on taking the motors out easy. I would definitely get some steel Robinson racing pinion gears in it with those 15T motors that soft tamiya pinions will melt away like butter!
