Nice intro to the TL01, my fist TL01 was not even a Tamiya, it was the HBX Cross Tiger which was also known as the Bonza. So I have since bought enough parts to build 2 new cars, a touring car and an F150 truck, I gave my Cross Tiger to my brother. Nice video mate, thanks a lot, maybe we could get Tamiya to rerelease another version one day. 😜

Was nice hearing the story. I got my tlo1 about 20 years ago. Castrol supra body. Been sitting in a box for about 20 years. Almost got rid of it 2 years ago when i moved. Lucky i didnt cos i want to get back into it. Ive stripped it down washed it all. Now soon gona put it back together with some upgrades. Cant wait!

@@rexrcs i bought them recently. New bearings. Shocks n electronics. And put a super stock rz motor that i had new in box for 20 years and never put it in. I used to use stick transmitter back then. Finding it hard to use the wheel. But il get there with practice. :)

I have a Lexus GS 400 TL 01 chassis never driven. I Bought it in 1999 along with some mods. Life took over got married had a child and it sat in storage for just over 13 years. I never knew that this chassis was so iconic. Guess what I'm about to do.....enjoy this car with more mods to come.

Awesome video. I personally love running my TL-01 cars. I got both buggies (Baja Champ and Baja King). I also recently acquired a TL-0LA. And earlier this year a buddy of mine hooked me up with a Ford Lightning that was completely mint! Hopefully they will bring back these TL-01 cars again. I know they brought out the Lightning in 2011 on the TT-01. Again great video, and hope you can get your hands on one again soon.

Awesome video! So many nostalgic moments with that chassis. Your timeline of how this TL01 pulled you in did the same but on the west coast in Vancouver. I remember once I discovered rc cars I'd walk 6km each way to a tiny hobby shop called Mr. Hobby and the guy would let me sit there and stare at every thing for an hour or two every weekend without disturbing me or pushing me out. I think I want to buy a TL 01 again! Are spare parts still around for this?

Glad you enjoyed it! thank you for stopping in for a chat. it's a nostalgic masterpiece to me! I'd drive farther than Im willing to admit for a hobby shop haha, and before I could drive I'd bus hours to go window shop at hobby shops. Mr' Hobby sounds legit too bad its gone! if you find one, a tl-01 that is, it may be frail and parts are not easy to get min terms of proprietary stuff such as chassis and hop ups, however the suspension arms, links, driveshaft, gears, are all common place and parts that are currently being used on other models so thats not an issue, even some of the newer M chassis models use the older style TL-01 body mounts

Thanks to you i got myself two TL01s. They are a pain to find here in China, so i started... no kidding, with a clone NQD757 but replaced the tub, diffs, etc and yes... they are great! So winding what you think of the MF01x. I love that chassis but so disappointed about the shocks and how they mount, and the Escort body; paint is layered so thin it scrapes off and not even pre-cut.

Haha that is good funny, what parts are you missing? Once you complete it what body have you decided to place on it? I dont have a solid opinion yet on the MF-01x, i have the beetle rally and the escort but havent run it enough to truly know yet. I do agree the suspension is uncommon, however it does work lol, Ive got the Jimny version on order and plan to turn that into a full time runner after making it a rally or dakar style truck, so I will have a solid opinion on that in a couple months. The escort body came chipped on many spots with mine as well, I do feel that it is very lackluster paint work, not even backed with another colour such as grey or silver, only reason I can think of is cost savings, Tamiya is a sustainable company, so it has to find profits not in employees nor quality but with finishes and lack of complexity on some kits (due to making a high profit manufacturing process with high paid employees) . Did you get an MF-01x? I liked it because I though it was very similar to the TL-01 but the similarities are few to be found

@@rexrcs The problem is the actual driveshaft, but the clone has an exact match, so everything else is now from Tamiya (many import between Hongkong to Shenzen, such as rcmart). I am looking at two identical bodies; like the Killerbody Evo X (as that is our 'fami;y' car), in blue and red for both my boys. Or the Subaru BRZ and a Toyota GT86, but no idea if this would fit... and seems not out yet. I also got the parts to make it a TL01B, if ever ;-). But for now, got a second MF01x (Jimny) ... love this 'tiny' chassis.

With how big of a Tamiya fan I am, I've actually never known about the TL-01 surprisingly. I knew it existed but I assumed it was like a TT-01/TT-02 style touring car. It really reminds me of the MF01X except in standard size!

Those tires and rims are from another kit that was out at the same time but it was shaft driven but not the same chassis.

Nice video. And hobby stores in Toronto 20 years and prior were my fav places to be. It's a shame they're few and far between now. I just picked up a used TL01. The Focus WRC kit (though the owner swapped out the body with what looks like an Acura). I tore it down, and other than garage dust, it was incredibly clean. No wear. The gear box barely looked used. I'd like to make it into a proper Rally style for dirt. Larger proper tires (I think the stock rims should be fine?), replace the shocks. I'd like a wee more ground clearance that slightly larger tires may not provide enough of. I wouldn't mind an ESC rather than the old mechanical one I have. And a new shell for sure... I have an old Kyosho performance motor sitting in my original Mudblaster (My first RC purchased far too many years ago). If you have any tips, that may be a good video, I'd certainly appreciate it.

I really like the stadium truck version of the chassis! also the LandFreeder body is one of my favorite lexan body from Tamiya. I haven't get my hand on a tl01, it seems the chassis shares many parts from the m chassis (gears, suspension), can I fix it with the spare parts from my m chassis? Thanks a lot!

Hi! Im excited for you! The motor change is SUPER easy, literally just remove the left rear wheel to make space and you can remove two screws on the right side that hold the motor in place, make a video

Tires are made by HPI Racing and Pirelli collaboration, hard as heck to find them nowadays. I think the MF-01X has the TL-01 to thank for its design

Hahahaha, my mini tape. The wheels are from Tamiyas “cc-01” model, and the body is Tamiyas “Landfreeder”. Lets see your build when it’s complete ! :)

I used the tamiya landfreeder body with modified wheel arches, the standard wheelbase of that body is not correct for 257mm, its shorter
