I took out the Tamiya TT-02 Toyota Celica GT-Four ST165 Group A rally car out to the commuter lot for its first run. It still has the street tread tires on it, so I figured some parking lot running was in order before going out to a ballfield and getting it really dirty!
It did just what a TT02 does, drives around pretty well and needs a bit more motor and/or gearing to wake it up and get it going! I am sure in the dirt it will be a bit more exciting but that is for another day.
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

Yep..... That's definitely a TTO2! 😂 The body looks awesome mate, but can definitely feel your pain regarding the decals. I actually think I preferred it back in the day when you had to paint the small detail on by hand, rather than fidly stickers that wrinkle up and lift. I also think painting the small detail looks more realistic?! Nice to see some running videos recently Addam..... and wish our sky's were that blue! 👍 👍 👍

The TT02 is a great platform and it was just floating about out there. The parking lot is so fresh and smooth there was hardly a need for suspension! LOL! Not too often I get a place like that! The decals are a necessary evil a lot of the time. They can add a ton of great detail and life to the car but can also be extremely fiddly to fit and stay in place in some areas! I did order a new hair dryer to try and use a bit of heat to shape them and get the adhesive to stick a bit better. I do like painting in areas where I can and try to eliminate as many as I can if possible but I am terrible about cutting thine lines of masking! We had a fairly grey weekend but we have had a good stretch of weather lately. Maybe it will blow your way soon! I am glad you enjoyed it and have a great week!!!

The ton of stickers is the only downside to the on-road cars. Sadly they make them look so good on the box it is very hard to not want to recreate them! Once I get a new hair dryer I will blast the sticker back down for good I hope, then it is off to the dirt!!

That's a very beautiful Celica body Addam, even with the escaping stickers! I use a flame from a lighter to try and stick those suckers back down but you gotta be careful or they'll go up in flames! 😅 Sounded lovely and smooth out there and fast enough on that ST motor! Cheers! 😎😎👍👍

Gotta love the TT02. And that Toyota Celica body is a great choice. I feel your pain with the stickers dude. My Nissan Motul Autech body had 117 decals... 117 decals... and NOT ONE was pre-cut... This was a Tamiya relationship test, I think... Lol!

LOL yeah, the sticker can be the most time consuming and challenging part. So far the traumatizing one was the Ford GT Mk II... I am pretty sure it was 143 in that one!! I want to do the Buggyra Fat Fax truck but the body is mainly 6 layers of stickers and a few scraps of lexan!! LOL!!! They do look good once all is done though, so we buy another once the sticker shock has worn off! LOL!

It is a great looking car and it is a inexpensive one as well! The TT02 lineup have a lot of great kits and often for not to much money. They are a relaxing kit to assemble and work really well completely stock. There are tons of upgrades for them as well if you want to take them to the next level. The speed runs were fun but after 40mph they get a little nerve wracking to run! Anything over 40-50mph on the pavement is usually a bit twitchy and sketchy feeling! LOL! It does add a whole other level of excitement to it though! I am going to pick up a new hair dryer and heat them up and hopefully stick them down for good before it gets out in the dirt! That is the next adventure to get it sliding around on the ball field and kicking up some dust! Take care guys and have a great weekend! I have to work part of the weekend but I am going to try and get it knocked out as quick as possible and get back to more enjoyable things like not working! LOL!

For a kit that does around 20mph out of the box I can imagine it'd be a handful lol, well done mate! We remember your speed runs well. That'll be good to stick em down and take it for a spin and slide on the ball field!, hopefully it's a home run😁. We hope you get your work done fast so you can go play Addam. They do end up looking good once they are all on there but they can tedious and time consuming to get put on. I did pick up a new hair dryer to try and heat them up a little to get them to form and stick down better in spots. Then it is off to the baseball field for a dirt run as long as I can fin d my way over there when it is not being used. The slicks on these need a good bit of scuffing up to break them in and get predictable traction. That and it is just silly fun to do donuts LOL!!

If I had cut them out with a bit of excess on them it may have stayed down a little better. My knife hand is so trained to cutting them out super close it can be very difficult to remember to leave any extra! For all I know the extra could make it a little more prone to wanting to pop up in other areas too. I am going to hit them with a little heat to try and get them to form and stick where they belong. It looks good and it was a joy ripping it around out there. Not the fastest thing in the world but it was fun sliding it around out there. That parking lot is super smooth so the car just kind of floated around!

Other than the slop in the steering g I have had no issues from the on road kits. For the off road TT02B kits I have had some issues with the stock servo saver holding up. I replaced them with Kimbrough large servo savers and they have not had any issues since. It is possible the servo is not finding the center properly. Put it up on something to hold the front tires off the ground and with the controller turn to one side and hold for a second and then let it center. Keep doing that for a while and see if it fails to center at any time. If it does fail to center then it is probably the potentiometer servo is not working correctly.

Goes well with the Sport tuned motor in it, are you running lipo batteries?

No, it is running on nimh. I just grabbed what was charged and rolled out. It was kind of a spur of the moment thing to take them out. The next run will be out in the dirt and will probably have lipo power, if I remember to get them charged! If not then there is always one or nimh packs charged and ready to go down there.

Are you going to get the other Celica kit with the newer body on it?

I am not sure, I still have the supra to do so I really don't need any more on-road cars at the moment.

Yeah the TT02s are nice and smooth unless you are throwing gobs of power at it. This just did exactly what they normally do, turn wide on full power but can really turn in off power and then roll right back on and take off. Such a fun platform!
