Ah, so satisfying to see it all assembled, now, Mark! And very satisfying that second clip squeezing in the bearing, Rob captured that well, and with sound, even! Looking forward to the bodywork, of course I dread the stickers, but fortunately it's you doing the work, not me... I'm just sitting with a coffee, watching, ha ha!

Greetings! Thank you for this 5 part informative video of building the Tamiya XV-01 chassis. Just finished building my XV-01 chassis. Before building the kit, I first watched this build video to learn what to expect while building the XV-01. You were right. The 3x10mm screw is very hard to screw in the steering knuckle. Since I don't have the reamer set, I just forced the screw in. Again, thank you.

Nice work Mark, this Xv01 looks like a great design for rallying. These build videos are great especially if you get stuck and to see the difference in chassis designs . The mud guards would be great for a rally car, my tt02 rally car is full of dirt and mud each bashing.
@MarkBryanRC3 жыл бұрын
Thanks as always, Peter! Yeah, the XV01 is much more of an off-road design than the TT02, but still has limited ground clearance in my opinion. Easy fix with the longer shock 5mm ball connectors! TBH, the mudguards don't stop that much dirt, but do help a little bit! Cheers! 👍

Thanks mate! Yeah, the servo issue baffled me at first, it's an Etronix and I have used the same servo in lots of other Tamiyas! Good job the output shaft was made of plastic, so I could shorten it a little - if it was metal I would have been totally stuck! The mudguards work well, stopping gravel flying into the bodywork. Enjoy your binge, Mikael, and the peace and quiet while it lasts! ;D

Getting exciting Mark!! 😀😀 Getting the Rolling Chassis done is always a great moment of accomplishment! VERY interesting, the Bearing install... That bigger Spacer (mm3?), I can't stop thinking that I might try to just Bin those sleeve spacers, and see if a stronger 1150 Bearing would fit without it... (I can't get my mind to stop! I've tried.) My only worry on the WHOLE Kit, is Tamiya wanting you to fit 1050 Bearings on the load bearing Axles! 😱😱 I'm sure it works. They've sold MANY of these Kits. The full sized Racer in me can't stop thinking about using Bearings that may not be prudent to use, when the Brushless conversion comes about. Unless you're not really going nuts on a Motor.... In my mind, I see a 13.5-15.5, depending on conditions, gearing and speed required. I'm going to look for anyone making an upgraded or strengthened Transfer Belt. I'm confident that the box stock Belt is more than up to the job with the Stock Motor, or even some hotter Brushed or tamer Brushless Mo-ors. But, if someone were to want to try a 5.5, 7.5 Sensored or 4500kv and up Sensorless Brushless Motors..... I think that Belt will have a very short life indeed!! I'm almost sure that your Belt will serve you fine. The thing is, Tamiya Designed the XV-01 Chassis, back when Brushed was still King, and Brushless Motors were just Expensive Trinkets, for Robot Warriors, RC Speedboats, and was just getting into RC Aircraft. Truth be told, the Airplane Guys were the hardest sell in the beginning! "Electric Motors are for Park Flyers! Not "real" Aircraft." I find that funny.... Nowadays, 85-90% of all Large Scale Aircraft are now powered by Brushless ELECTRIC Motors!! Us Crawler Guys were actually the LAST to jump in. Early Brushless Motors were all 2 Pole, not well wound, and had ZERO control at slow speed. RIGHT where we need the most Control!! Now with better 4 and 6 Pole Motors, and greatly improved Sensored Technology, NO Brushed Motor can run even HALF as efficient, powerful or controlled as even mid-range Hobbywing/Carson offerings lately! Sorry Mate, that was my useless anecdote of the day. I'm still trying to to get my mind off of the fear, tension, and panic about not being able to aquire enough money to keep us afloat AND cover Cindi's newest Expenses, surrounding Cancer Treatment.... In this Country, since about 2012, only the very Rich, poor MINORITIES, or ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS can get FULL coverage treatment for chronic and severe Medical Issues!! 😣😫😥 ..... There's MANY reasons why just the Democrat Controlled Congress in 2010, passed "Obamascare" in the *middle of the night* - behind LOCKED doors.... THEY became very wealthy after that night!! Eight of them, retired straightaway. And, millions of undereducated Americans, STILL believe that this was a GOOD move. Even after being interviewed, and several slipped up, admitting that their Insurance Premiums have been going UP steadily since 2014 (point of full implementation), and most of us are paying better than DOUBLE what our Premiums were, in 2009..... Co-Pays are UP! Deductibles are UP, wait times for many treatments have TRIPLED!! And, there is actually a new Government Office, that decides what procedures and medications will even be COVERED. If that weren't enough, they've begun a campaign, in cohoots with the AMA & FDA, working to convince Doctors, then us - that we're ALL a bunch of drug addicts, simply because some of us legitimately have incurable, chronic Pain, from injury or illness! All of it is being cut back to the point where thousands of Americans have committed SUICIDE, due to extreme, intense PAIN. It's literally driving some people Mad.... Yet they STILL are convinced that issuing most of the control of the Healthcare Industry in the United States, was a GOOD idea!!! Most of them are Members of Congress - who voted THEMSELVES *Free Healthcare!!* Paid for of course, by us poor slobs! Others include BusinessPEOPLE, State Officials..... OH, and CELEBRITIES! They have never even SEEN one of their Medical Bills. They Hire People, who aren't offered the same consideration, to sort all that. They're so bloody RICH, that they could care less about it, but do use their high status and public appeal - to tell US how "great" this Shitstorm of a Healthcare Law is......... Sorry again! We're in a real pickle here, and nothing works like it used to be... FFS, I'd be happy if it were just NORMAL again! I gotta stop ranting. We'll get the money somehow. Cheers my Friend. I truly hope you have it better over there. Carmine 💥 ⛽
@MarkBryanRC6 жыл бұрын
Hi Carmine - more good points raised - yes I thought it was odd that the hubs have spacers and 1050 bearings too - but I never thought to check if the 1150 would fit without the spacers in place - great call, I must try that out later :-) As for the belt, Tamiya offer a carbon-reinforced hop-up (that is actually only a couple of bucks more expensive than the standard belt! I don't intend to go mad with any motor upgrades - a mild sensored brushless is my preferred route - I would rather enjoy running and racing the car with Rob, enjoying the handling and beautiful looks of the car, making a few videos along the way, and not have to worry about maintenance every other run! As for the state of the country, I'm afraid I am not an expert, but I know that things seem to be more difficult all around the world as we move further into the 21st century - and with a growing population, I can't see it improving soon. All the best, Mark
@CarminesRCTipsandTricks6 жыл бұрын
Sorry Mate.... I was really upset. I shouldn't have vented here. Although your response seems spot on! We have been getting overpopulated, and it is steadily getting worse. I guess you and I should be chucked, that we won't live long enough to see them destroy everything. In my case, when I can get one, the reinforced Belt sounds like a worthwhile option. I would hang on to it until the Stock one has stretched or snapped. Like you, I have no plans to beat up any of my RCs (the 2 I have now!! 😭). I can push my Wraith some, because she's built to take it! I've got a bunch of Upgrades on an already stout Vehicle! However, I certainly can't afford breakages, so I do take it fairly easy. And if 1150s do fit, even in the outer spindles, I'll do that straightaway on mine!! 👍👍 It just seemed odd, and got me thinking. Sometimes, thinking gets the better of me!! 😜

Hi Carmine - no worries mate - I feel the same sometimes! Yeah, I'm gonna do the same with my drivebelt - we'll see how it goes! Hi Mark, I hear you on the Thinking thing.... Sometimes I truly believe that ignorance IS Bliss indeed!!! Have you looked into AmPro Engineering, on Shapeways? I was very on the fence about 3D Printing.... Then I bought some to try, and bought more!! 👍👍 They are NO longer brittle, by any stretch! I've got a pair of C-Hubs on my $87 HG P402 (a VERY Cheap knockoff of a SCX10 - with PLASTIC Frame Rails!!!) 😵😱 That's currently my "Scaler Truck", and I've been trying to turn it into a "real Rig" for the past two years. I got the C-Hubs and then Spindles 3D Printed, in SLS Nylon, and they have taken quite a beating!! .... When this over, I'm getting REAL quality Rigs, and this will go to my Grandson. So I'm trying to make it as reliable as possible. Anyway, Shapeways. AmPro Engineering has a Store on there. He's a Mechanical Engineer by day, and a Tamiya FREAK by night! His name is Alberto, and I've known him for about 3 years. Great Guy. He's Designed SO many 3D Printed parts for various Tamiya Vehicles, and has even jumped on the TRX-4 bandwagon!! I've got his Double Wishbone Front Suspension on my Lunchbox (at least the half I've still got). When she ran, THAT was my main Basher. I've broken several Bits, but never ONCE one of his parts!! He makes the same for Grasshopper/Hornet/Rising Fighter, along with Rear Suspension Upgrades, 2 of which I have on my Lunchy. He also makes parts for the M03-05-06, Frog/Brat, and a large amount of parts for the ORV Series (Blackfoot, Beetle, ect.). Suspension, Shock Mounts, Chassis Braces, a complete Double Wishbone REAR Suspension, enhanced Gearbox Strengtheners, Bumpers, and HD Steering Components, including a Zero bumpsteer, centered Steering Servo and links. EVERYTHING is Sold separately (with few exceptions), so you don't have to break the Bank on a whole Kit. You can build it up as budget allows!! 😉 He also has Interiors for some Tamiya Trucks, and Scale details. Shapeways itself only sells qualified Designer's goods, and with 7 facilities Worldwide, can literally Ship anywhere, for similar cost! Sometimes, I just log on, type "Tamiya" or "Axial" in the Search Window, and can spend HOURS just looking at Everyone's Stuff!!! There's loads of Detail Bits as well, including what also interests me, 1/10 Scale ENGINES - either Static, or the type that slips over a front mounted, 540-550 size Motor!! It's a goal of mine to have nearly everything I've got, with opening Hood/Bonnet and DETAILED Engine Compartment!! BLABBING again!! At least I won't be regretful of this! 😜 Cheers my Friend! Hi Carmine. Yes, I have seen a few Ampro videos - cool guy, very inventive, and some excellent RC products. Good to know that the printed parts are bash-proof, one day I may invest in a few parts. Like you, my RC hobby is truly an ongoing concern, I don't think I will ever stop modding or upgrading any of the rigs I have! I'll certainly keep an eye out for Shapeways - it will be a good place to look next time I break a major RC component, to see if there are better upgraded replacements. In fact my Monster Beetle is in need of some serious steering improvements, still haven't fixed the broken steering arms! Love the sound of a complete scale truck, engine compartment and all - I've seen a few and they look awesome! Thanks for the message - I enjoyed the blabbing! Cheers mate! Mark...

Hi Mark. More great Tamiya build related japes from you. Love all the nice little touches with this kit like the bits of foam to keep the gravel out. That was always an issue with the TT-02 chassis when I was running mine around the garden. The stones would jam up the steering. I'm guessing that you have run this by now ? @MarkBryanRC3 жыл бұрын
Hi There! Yeah, using the stock TBLE02s! No, I didn't need to lengthen the wires because the stock motor that comes with the kit has extra long wires fitted. You would need to extend the wires if you fitted another motor. All the best from Mark... :)

Hi there, I’m new to rc modelling, done plenty of static models but nothing with electrics. What would I need to buy in addition to the chassis kit to get the car running? Many thanks
@MarkBryanRC4 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew - The electronics side of the RC hobby is pretty basic to be honest, you will have no trouble with it. You will need a transmitter and receiver, an Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) and a servo for the steering. The ESC and servo plug into the receiver, and the ESC connects to the motor wires and the battery. The best way to start is to buy a "kit bundle" from a retailer - there are many to choose from and you will get all the electrics that you need to get the RC going, even the AA batteries for the transmitter! Another bonus is that these bundles are usually much cheaper than buying the items separately, and you know they will be compatible with the chosen RC kit. Take a look at Time Tunnel Models (do a search on the 'net) and you will see what I mean. Good luck with your first kit! :)
