I just built one of these 2011 Re-Re's. Fitted a Technigold motor with a 60amp brushed ESC. 2S. Put some cheap Aliexpress buggy wheels and took it out for a maiden last week. 37kph. Handled so well I smiled ear to ear. It was a "by the book" builds..used vernier calipers to measure the turnbuckles that's how serious I went. I have quite the collection of RC's that are current..Arrma Felony, Arrma Typhon 6s V5, Traxxas X-Maxx and XRT and a bunch of others. The sheer Joy driving the Avante (My first Tamiya in 34 years!) was enough to get the Tamiya bug again. I have a Tamiya Porsche 959 on the way (My dream RC from when I was young) and bidding on another new built 959 right now. I've missed these cars. Yeah...addictions are tough. Cheers for the vid!!

This. This is actually my unicorn. It was my first hobby grade RC and had to grab all the savings i had at the time at 14 years old to acquire this. Adjusted for inflation i'd reckon a solid 1500-1750 bucks. Dollar, Pound, Euro, whatever. Back then i had it upgraded to an ESC, 18 turns Topaz motor and it ran on 7 cells. NICD or NIMH, i'm not sure anymore. The thing was too fast for what i could handle at the time and eventually i couldn't afford the replacement parts anymore and traded it in. These days i'd really like to have it back but only if it is this exact version and not the upcoming limited edition black one. And they're still asking a cool 500 bucks for these, which is insane in my opinion. Some things never change i guess.. But cool that you have one man; I wonder what the top speed will be on this brush-less setup. In my child mind back then, i recall it reaching or exceeding 80 KPH/50MPH. Cheers man, take care of her.

I am a huge fan and love all of your videos. I enjoy watching and listening to your video playlists while I'm on the road trucking to keep me entertained. This is just constructive criticism but I have a hard time hearing the sound in your videos , I have to turn my volume on my bluetooth speaker to 100% and I can still barely hear you, when I'm at home I have to turn the volume on my TV up all the way. Maybe you can turn up the recording volume on your future videos for us, it would be very helpful. Thank you for all your hard work!

Glenn, just thinking out loud here but is it possible to fit the top force wheels and tyres just to get a straight out comparison ? If nothing else, it'll give you a base line from which to work your magic. You could even take it one step further by fitting the avante ones to your top force. Or it could just be my OCD 🙈

John Josey Yeah I did have a play with different wheels and tyres buddy. In the tarmac videos that are coming I settled for the TRF dished wheels on the dual block tyres, they ran really well 😊 But on the gravel I went with the Avante set up 👊🏻🚗💨💨

Nice brushless setup. I have a Boomerang that I put one of these cheap brushless systems in and I run it on 7.2v and get 35 mph/56kph. On a 5000 mah battery it get a pretty long run time as well. The vid of it running is on my channel. I may try a 3s in it just for fun...hahahaha.

This may sound backwards ,as per the toe-in and toe-out settings..... please note, none of this is intended to insult your intelligence or experience with off road chassis and suspension setups!!! next, I will explain for this animal, two setups for two points of interest, straight line handling, and then for allot of turns or curves. Going fast and straight is a handful, but, very do-able..... going fast while in a turn or curve, things get out of control very quickly. as you likely already know. You can take away a little bit of the better handling aspects from the "fast and straight" and tune the car to handle much better in the turns, but starts to become less stable in the straight aways. mentally, going fast and straight, is easier due to, well, you are going in a straight line, but the curves or turns, requires all sorts of efforts and quick reaction times, so to balance that out a bit, lets play with the toe-in and toe-out, for both the front and rear... (Yes, the rubber wheels ,as I think you call them, we in the USA call them tires, lol). For a track that has allot of curves or turns, the front will have toe-out, maybe 1 to 2 degrees per side and the rear wheels will have toe-in by 1 to 2 degrees. This is especially great in soil and clay tracks and is many times how I would rocket past my fellow racers, pulling past them in the turns. but I would kinda suffer in the straight away areas of the track. For a track that has more straight away areas then turns or the track has wide long turns or curves, the front will have toe-in of a half a degree to 1 degree per side and the rear will have nothing greater then 1 to 2 degrees of toe-out... and often times, 0 to 1 degree will be fine, for most cases. On pavement or black top roadways for parking lots etc... do understand, it will chew up the rubber tires treads a bit... but, small price to pay, to do 40 mph in a 15 foot wide turns.... LOL I hope that helps, if you didn't already know... Side note, the rear toe-in and toe-out can only be adjust so far, due to the design and is time consuming to do so, but the journey is so worth it... heck, you are playing with a legendary unit... Thanks for the update...

@drubradley8821
@drubradley8821 5 жыл бұрын
@@Zeros_Hobbies I think I should mention, this also works for the on-road type cars as well, as long as they are 4WD!!!! But, the on-road chassis that are 4WD, are an absolute pain in the bootie to dial in, due to the much higher percentage of sprung weighted traction, due from a smoother track conditions, vs. off road chassis... which typically only have 2 wheels touching the ground at any given moment, due to the rough terrain ... none the less, same configuration methodology of toe-in and toe-out. Good luck... On a side note... gust so you see the extreme difference... set the toe-in's and toe-out's to their maximum, then run the car a lap or 5... then reverse the toe-in's and toe-out's the other direction to the maximum and run a few passes... then just so you can see how they handle on the straight aways ,vs the turns and see how hard you can push into the turns before loss of control... or how fast you can get back on the throttle, maybe at half way into the turn, 3.4's into the turn... or hopefully, just power all the way through. That is for you and your track conditions to figure out... likewise, if you find a sweet spot while playing in a paved or tarmac parking lot, that does not mean it will offer the same corning capability once you get your rigs onto the dirt track, and will likely require a bit of tuning again, to get the push, just right for that location, again.... LOL... that is why I always loved the AVANTE... it never failed to keep me entertained... and challenged ,none the less... Good luck...

Biggest issue with this drivetrain is the center diff/spur combo. Otherwise the gears hold up fairly well if dust can be kept out of them & there aren't too much rough landings under throttle. Though there are parts that locks this center diff which affects how it handles a bit (if you don't look too race this it's fine really.) But makes it a lot more reliable as a full time runner, besides perhaps reinforcing the chassis here & there for jumps.

Glue them tires up buddy and give it another run ;) Let us know how she runs then. I read that for some reason the center diff has to be tightened when using modern wheels and tires. Can you confirm?
