ONE OF THOSE UTTERLY ENTHRALLING, HEART-MELTING ROMANITIC BALLADS THAT OUTSHINED THE FILM IN WHICH IT WAS FEATURED. THIS CURIOUS PHENOMENON ALSO OCCURRED QUITE OFTEN IN BROADWAY PLAYS IN WHICH A POPULAR TUNE BECAME IMMORTALIZED WHILE THE PLAY ITSELF DRIFTED INTO OBSCURITY. DEBBIE REYNOLDS NEVER HAD ANOTHER HIT RECORDING. AS APPEALING AS HER VOICE WAS, THE SONGS WITH HIT POTENTIAL NEVER CAME HER WAY, FOR WHATEVER REASONS. TAMMY WAS PLAYING THE ROLE OF A 17 YEAR OLD GIRL IN THIS 1957 FILM, "TAMMY AND THE BACHELOR." SHE LOOKED THE PART, BUT SHE WAS ACTUALLY 25 YEARS OLD, AND PREGNANT WITH DAUGHTER CARRIE FISHER DURING THE FILMING. LESLIE NIELSON WAS 31 AT THE TIME, AND HE APPEARED TO ME TO BE REALISTICALLY TO OLD LOOKING FOR THE PART, AND DEBBIE LOOKED TO BE TOO YOUNG.

"Tammy" is a popular song with music by Jay Livingston and lyrics by Ray Evans. It was published in 1957 and made its debut in the film Tammy and the Bachelor. It was nominated for the 1957 Oscar for Best Original Song. "Tammy" is heard in the film in two versions. The one that became a number one hit single for Debbie Reynolds in 1957 is heard midway through the film, and was a UK No. 2 hit single in the same year. Lyrics: I hear the cottonwoods whisperin' above "Tammy, Tammy, Tammy's in love" The ole hooty-owl hooty-hoos to the dove "Tammy, Tammy, Tammy's in love" Does my lover feel what I feel When he comes near? My heart beats so joyfully You'd think that he could hear Wish I knew if he knew what I'm dreamin' of "Tammy, Tammy, Tammy's in love" Whippoorwill, whippoorwill, you and I know Tammy, Tammy can't let him go The breeze from the bayou keeps murmuring low "Tammy, Tammy, you love him so" When the night is warm, soft and warm I long for his charms I'd sing like a violin If I were in his arms Wish I knew if he knew what I'm dreaming of "Tammy, Tammy, Tammy's in love"
