That was why I was afraid of the Washington game. I knew that they had been 0-5 at night games, now it’s 0-6. I was at the game and it was exciting, but it was so close that it was which team would make the big mistake, especially a turnover, and that would dictate the winner. When McMillian fumbled that handoff from Mayfield, it would be the difference. That was even worse because it was deep in Bucs territory. They basically handed Washington a TD. I felt bad for the defense after making a great stop when Washington opted to go on 4th down and then had to go back out of the field before getting a cup of Gatorade. Even worse, they had to try to stop a team from scoring on a first and goal. The Bucs had a lot of penalties, many more than Washington did. The time of possession was also lopsided. It seemed like Washington’s offense was on the field for most of the second half. You must can’t win a game with all of those issues.

I've been a fan since '87. Bowles is mediocre. He's gotten those division titles off the grace of the offensive side of the ball and by virtue of the NFC South being a hot mess. His defense has gotten worse every year, his clock management has cost us games, and to top it all off, he never takes accountability. It's always someone else's fault. I wasn't a fan of hiring him away from New York, and I'm still not a fan. He has ONE playoff win as a head coach. He’s only coached us for three seasons, not four. The only reason we’ve made the playoffs these last three years is because our division has been so bad. So if that means Cohn is promoted to HC at Bowles expense, or we lose him, I wouldn’t need more then a second to make that decision. Bowles didn't fumble the ball or rush the snap against the Commanders. If the guys on the field made those plays, the entire game would have played out differently. Defense was hampered by injuries all season. I always enjoy Evans take, but he's been calling for tanking and firing Bowles for years. Still the ONLY NFC team to make playoffs 5 years in a row.
@ChuckJansenIIКүн бұрын
Pass rush this year is better than people think. What has been horrible is the back end of the defense. It's the scheme. When blitzing, DB's cannot be 7-10 years off the ball and before the snap they start to run deep to cut off the low percentage completion deep passes leaving the middle of the field open to quick, easy, high percentage throws wide open. It is either death by an occasional deep dagger or by a thousand high percentage tiny cuts. The closest to a 3 and out drive for the Commanders was the 4 play TD drive after the fumble. That one was Coen trying to be too cute. We have had success with the jet sweep, but it is a precision play and risky to run inside our 20. It failed and we lost. Let's not talk about clock management.

Let me ask ALL OF YOU A QUESTION, I ask that you PLEASE READ THIS and be honest. In a 4th and 3 situation, down by 3pts with 5 minutes left in a playoff game in the redzone on the opponents 14 yard-line, would Andy Reid take the ball out of Mahomes hand? Would Sean McDermott take the ball out of Josh Allen's hand? Would Nick Sirianni take the ball out of Jalen Hurts/Saquon Barkley's hands? Would John Harbaugh take the ball out of Lamar Jackson/Derrick Henry's hands? Would Dan Campbell take the ball out of Jaren Goff/Jahmyr Gibbs hands? Would Sean McVay take the ball out of Matt Stafford's hand? Would DeMeco Ryans take the ball out of CJ Stroud's hand? Would DAN QUINN take the ball out of Jayden Daniels hand? Now let me ask this question, would Todd Bowles take the ball out of Baker Mayfield's hand? We all know the answers here....and this is the difference between Todd Bowles and the other coaches mentioned above. Todd Bowles is a Defensive Coordinator, he is NOT a head coach. I like Todd Bowles, but he should have been fired yesterday morning. Let me explain. We have Mike Evans, Bucky Irving, Baker Mayfield, Jalen McMillan on offense and one of the best OC's this season in Coen, yet Bowles did not trust these guys, who make up the best player-personnel group of the team, matched with the best coordinator on the team, to get 3 yards on 4th down and 3 with the game on the line. Bowles decided to bet on a defense that has shown to be highly inconsistent with an inability to stop teams nor create turnovers. The game ended with the defense not being able to stop the Commanders, which we knew this throughout the game, since the Bucs couldnt even force the Commanders to punt once in that game. Todd Bowles just wrecked this team because you really have to think about what this decision means that Todd Bowles made. For example, why would Liam Coen want to stay as the OC knowing that in crunch time Todd Bowles will fold in a playoff game? It wasnt like Liam Coen hadnt proven himself, just last week against the Saints, the Bucs had a 4th and 8 with 10 minutes left in the game and were down by 6. The game was put in the hands of Liam Coen, Baker Mayfield, Bucky Irving, Jalen McMillan and Mike Evans. The result was that the Bucs won the game on clutch plays. There is absolutely no way that if I'm Liam that I would want to stick around and remain the OC for a head coach that just made a gross decision like this in a WC playoff game when the Bucs were 3 yards away from a 1st down and 14 yards away from winning. The strength of this year's team was CLEARLY the offensive group. Todd Bowles took the ball out of Mayfield's hand and during a moment where franchise quarterbacks prove their worth. Todd Bowles timidness, robbed his own team at the opportunity for greatness on Sunday night. You cannot win a SB with a head coach that does that. Matter of fact, you wont even get to the SB with a HC that does that. Todd Bowles needs to go, he needs to be replaced.

More importantly, why would anyone trust THAT defense to make a stop at the end of the game when they hadn't forced a single punt, ALL GAME. In fact, Bowles' defenses rarely make critical stops at the end of the game. Bowles defense cost this team a 2nd Brady Superbowl.

You look at the 180 the oline did this year and you have to credit the coaches. then you look at the pass rush groups lack of progress over the last 3 years or so and we are seeing no progress this has maybe some to do with the players but has to be the coaches. Licth drafted the players but it is not his job to develop them. I feel like they will bring bowles back as hc and keep liam. Personally, I think we have seen bowles ceiling. He has a decent floor 8-10 wins and first place in the worst division. Which is not horrible, but I do not think he can take us to a SB. But maybe if he upgrades his defensive coaches and Jason does a good job restocking in FA and draft. time will tell. It's a tough call if you fire bowles maybe we don't win the division. He had a passer rating of 146.8 against Washington - he never said it was easy- you're making that up. The play on the fumble was an "end sweep" inside the Bucs 25 yard line with limited time on the clock. A rookie hiked the ball, the split end is a rookie who was farther away than he should have been to receive the ball correctly. It's an intricate play under any circumstances. Having said that, Baker manned up to take responsibility; he's the leader of the team and he isn't going to point fingers. It was up to him to get the play done correctly. It didn't happen. He didn't run away from it or blame anyone else. So take your sophomore attitude and grow up and don't try to hide behind Tom Brady's skirt.
@RoarOfWolverineКүн бұрын
I was at the game and it seemed like Washington’s offense had the ball for the entire second half. When the Bucs did get their offense out there, they fumbled deep in their own territory. That was too much to ask of your defense to make a stop right after they just left the field after holding Washington and Jayden Daniels for four downs. Dan Quinn knew he was in a playoff game and that a loss meant they went home. He went for it on fourth down nearly every time they got beyond midfield. Washington didn’t punt the ball once in the entire game. I think the Bucs punted twice. Washington’s defense did a good job containing Bucky for most of the night. I think him and Mayfield had one good run each for first downs. Of course it was the big turnover in Bucs territory was the turning point of the night. That and the penalties on Tampa. They had at least twice as many penalties than Washington and they had some big ones, like holding on both offense and defense and a PI or two. It was what we’ve come to expect from the Buccaneers for night games. They’re now 0-6 at night games. I can’t understand why they are so terrible at night, even when Brady was there. They lost to the Saints 38-3 on a Sunday night game. They had a really good winning streak after the bye, until they had to play Dallas at night and they fell apart. What is it with the Bucs and night games?? It used to be the jinx was when the temperature was below 45°F that they couldn’t win, but now it’s just night games. I’m sorry, but I predict that Todd Bowles will be another Tony Dungy. A great coach that can get you in the playoffs every year, but just never has the juice to go all the way. I do not ever expect to see Bowles head coaching in the Super Bowl, he’s just not that kind of coach. He won the division this year and the last two before that and will probably win again in the future, but won’t ever get deep in the playoffs. He just can’t build a team balanced enough to take it all of the way. When Washington got the ball with still over four minutes left to the fourth, I just knew that defense was not going to be able to stop Daniels from eating up the remaining clock and since he only needed a field goal to win, they burned the clock down to only two seconds when they finally kicked the ball. Come on defense! You can’t even get the ball back for your offense with nearly five minutes left in the quarter? Todd Bowles is just another, ultra-conservative head coach like Dungy was, who plays not to lose, rather than to win. He has no guts and takes no chances. That was the difference Sunday night. Dan Quinn was able to take big chances and you have to in order to win playoff games because there’s no tomorrow.
@Cardinalrule381Күн бұрын
The thing that drives me crazy more so than anything about his defense. It’s the fact we make every single back up caliber quarterback look like an all pro. Bucs have to keep Liam Coen! They need to spend the top 3 picks on LBs & CBs. Then, add another in free agency. Spend a late round pick on O-line depth. Then grab another offensive weapon in free agency... either Chris Godwin or another WR or TE.

Defense did not loose this game for once. It’s all on the Offensive and 1 blundering play.

They should have went for it on 4 down. Or a qb sneak on 2nd or 3rd

Like I said, same play that got Evans the record. Virtually indefensible for a three yard gain with his size.
@archietall95314 сағат бұрын
This is honestly weird, we’re questioning what he said about his personnel but is he lying??? You bring a new head coach in or move Liam to head coach you still have a ton of things to address on the defense or else you’re setting them up for failure. Personnel has been way more of an issue compared to coaching. I think we underestimate coaches and their ability to change things on the fly due to injuries. Go ask the 49ers how their season went with all of their injuries they dealt with.

Penalties and MIs cues is why we lost, the Bucs put up a massive fight, looked at the rest of the playoffs and how many points those teams lost by, the Bucs are it they just need to stop flags and mistakes. Simple as that, we have the most rookies starting on our team, we are fine, just look for cb and an edge rush, need jmb back and Jordan healthy

If I KNOW I cant stop a drive with my def, im letting the other team score so atleast I get a chance to tie the game. BOWLES accepted the LOSS with 4 Minutes and 41 seconds left. ???? No timeouts knowing theres a 2 min warning left? Fire Bowles

Also remember that the defensive minded Tony Dungy couldn't get the Buc's over the hump when he was coaching. Plenty of playoff appearances but it took an offensive mind to get the ring. Same thing in the Tom Brady SB win. Bowles is too conservative, there is ZERO "risk it" with this guy. He's so predictable that the league as adapted and figured out how to evade his schemes.

If Bowles is the head coach next year Im tuning out. Idgaf what kind of coach he is. Two one and dones in a row and this guy barely has a pulse. His tired flat "Oh well we will get em next time" bs is played out. If he doesnt care then why should we care???

There's no team that has a great defense and great offense, if baker didn't make the fumble and if bucky put his shoulder down a gotten that first down we would have won

Practice squad staff needs upgrading, guys coming up to replace injured starters don't seem to know what they're supposed to be doing, too many mental errors and play knowledge is subpar! New defensive schemes and using the old schemes "situationally" in the correct matter, like playing zone vs man at the right time is all convoluted and reactionary not proactive. Maybe more mental prep and study among the players and less reliance on your starters physical prowess! Bowles probably knows the fans stance on Cohen and would not care if he was hired away, less competition from within for his job!!
@JSmooth813Күн бұрын
He need to seriously replace some coaching staff because this defensive from week 1 wasn’t dominant as previous years this is in fact the lowest turnover producing defense the Bucs have ever had through the years! But Go Bucs! He can’t be arrogant or naive because if you don’t fix it buddy your next and no excuses we have always fought injuries in years pass so fix the staff or it’s yo azzzz 😂❤ 🏴☠️

Gotta draft a replacement for JTS and Golston and Hall. Golston because of age. Might be able to sign some good free agents if the cap allows . In my opinion the defensive line and OLB’s have to be bigger and better , follow the example of the Ravens and Steelers (even though both are a little off this year). The soft coverage has to stop. A DC like the Lions Arron Glenn switches from man to zone and will blitz like a mad man and has had good success with massive numbers of defensive players on IR ( 21 at one time). Bowles needs to retire or Licht needs to fire him there are to many better options out there.

You see Dan Quinn hyping teams efforts for his team... Todd just stands their emotionless, squinting his eyes, wincing...no drive...Commanders marching downfield down after down...please!....our team does not pass defend, or knock it away at all ...Winfield non factor...sorry

Pink slip should be in his desk by the end of the week. 8-9 2022 wild card loss. 9-8 2023 divisional loss. 2024 10-7 wild card loss. 27-24 regular season record and 1-3 in the playoffs as bucs HC. In the weakest division in NFC. Bowles fans love mediocrity. Great HCs make the difference. Bucs don't have a great HC. So mediocrity until they fire this weak HC. Todd Bowles will never lead a team to a superbowl as a HC.

It is no secret that the success of any team in any sport is largely due to the quality of their coaching,lets stop bleming the players it is the coaches job to get the best of the players and THAT is not happen with the Bucs under mr Bowles,he got to go,I know he only makes 3 million and the Glazers like things on the cheap but Bilichick is out there and he likes the Buccaneers,this is my opinion
