Bob Lassiter and Neil Rogers were the ones that got me into Politics and Talk Radio when I was a teenager. Fond memories.

As far as what year it was, Dick Norman passed away in 1986 I think. They did make reference in the piece as to him recently having passed. Damn those were the days. I used to listen lay awake at night listening to Bob on PLP. Of course I followed him over to FLA. Then he took the big dollar gig at WLS in Chicago. As things turned out I moved up that way and was able to hear my long lost buddy once again. Miss ya Bob.

I remember the day Dick was killed in a car wreck...I was producing that day. It was hell...I miss Bob, Dick Norman, Paul Gonzales, Lionel...hard to believe Jack is still on the air.

despite all of the 'attack' and 'controversy' Bob was a very sensitive man who never took to the fast ways of perhaps more ambitious corporate latter climbers. Perhaps it was his lack of education that held Bob back, even he admits that he didn't have any long term plans and no real "skills". Though I think Bob was smarter than that, and realized that mortality will get the best of us regardless of our so called life accomplishments. He loved his wife, enjoyed his job (not always, but mostly) ..

Yeah, he was also incredibly intelligent for a man who didn't attend college and dropped out of high school. I don't always think school is the answer so much as to just be informed, and able to coherently express convictions. Listening to his programs which I never heard live. I was born in 1992, and in a completely different state, NJ (where he's actually from himself). I think of his shows like a time capsule of popular mentality at the time (and in some cases still as of 2013) I think ...

The Internet has little to do with the slow, painful death of AM radio. When you hear these old tapes, it's obvious that the fun is gone. Now that the vast majority of talk radio is non-local and right-wing, all those funny, tin-foil hat callers are in agreement with the hosts instead of being fodder for guys like Bob. The corporate mega-owners seem to think it's cost effective to kill the business they're in. Listeners, learn about the '96 Telecommunications Act and work for its repeal!

and never sold out, usually feeling comfortable enough to stick to his conviction and very rarely getting beat might I add. Why people disliked him so much, if that even a good way to put it I'm not sure. But I do find his programs oddly relevant and always enjoy listening to them when I can find new material.

I'm saddened that he's gone (and he wasn't old). I enjoyed listening to him. I think I assumed he was a liberal because on one show he was praising Jesse Jackson, and to me Jackson was more of a polarizer than a uniter. But then I realized that Lassiter could agree and disagree with the same individual on specific points.

Though he did describe himself as a "moderate republican" on one show. I think people confuse his attitude with his political views. It wasn't that Bob was so much liberal as he was an individual who disliked backwards, sometimes 'southern' mentality and was ready to defend his opinions which I guess people could easily confuse as being "controversial" or "attack". I disagree, I think when people call his show he as a right to say whatever he may please.

I just reslized this man was the first ever troll. He literally just said liberal garbage for the sole purpose of making people mad at him, then proceeds to take calls where all he does is let them talk for a minute, call them a racist Bigot and hang up

@jorged59 - Right wing? Hardly. In fact, it's more the opposite just as the other media stations.
