Some guy recently ripped me up one side and down the other (about plane crashes) for asking the question: "dare we ask if DEI hires know righty tighty, lefty loosey" . After all wheels and doors do not just arbitrarily fall off. Very possibly "losing engine" was a maintenance issue. The NTSB will find out and let us know.

My theory is that too many people have too much money and they buy sophisticated aircraft and they don't think they need to develop the skills to operate their toy safely. I learned to fly 59 years ago, and there was safety back then in that you couldn't afford to fly the kind of aircraft that would kill you for being incompetent.

@@c7042 You could be right that he lacked experience with this kind of craft. Reading some other comments. This particular design (V35 meant no vertical rudder - a V shaped elevator arrangement) was very difficult to control under loss of power situations. Yeah he may 've bit off more 'n he could chew. But something caused loss of engine!! I admit I dont know the kind of engine but I wondered about carb heat? (Im familiar with ice coming off the throttle plate in an auto.) NTSB will let us know. And within a week I expect Juan Browne (blancolirio channel) will have a prelim up and he is top notch about analyzing crashes.)

Bonanza v35 is the same plane that killed guitarist, Randy Rhoads.

The "V" in the Bonanza's name stand for the V-shaped tail. The V-tail Bonanza's have, for decades, been called the "doctor killer." It has less drag, thus can fly faster than, the T-tail, but is harder to control and less forgiving. Look up "Bonanza V35" and you'll see its long history of crashes. Why anyone would buy a V35 for 5 more knots at cruise, I do not know.

I worked for Beechcraft in the late 1970s and once test flew a V35TC that cruised at 210 kts before delivery to the customer. I believe it had a TSIO-540 engine. It had a Collins Flight director/HSI/Rnav too! I agree that the V-tail killed a lot of marginal pilots, though.

The pilot on that plane was a piss poor pilot, he continued to fly that plane until he stalled out and fell out of the sky instead of looking for a road, highway, or field to put that craft down while he still has speed enough to do it. Clearwater air park is surrounded by mobile home parks, residential and commercial dwellings, it's a bad place for an emergency landing unless you're right on top of it and he wasn't.

Doesn't make any sense that he descended at a high rate of speed due to engine failure. He must have stalled and dropped rather than using his altitude and best glide speed to find a suitable place to land. Sounds like he didn't practice emergency landing procedure.

hats off to the fire fighters, plane still had quite a bit of fuel left judging from the flames...propane and natural gas would have green-blue-white flames if it was a gas line leak. guessing the pilot couldn't avoid any further and just focused on minimizing the damage. his is exactly why aircraft should have mandatory parachutes. how bad would this be if it was an european manufactured boeing 737 or 767 787 since boeing subcontracted out all manufacturing to airbus makers in europe and just ships those parts back to usa and assembles them in a poor east coast right to work state to escape the liberal communist controlled west coast union

As he was about to land, he probably had the landing gear and flaps extended. With the gear down a lot of drag is created and he probably needed power from the engine not to drop below the approach path to the runway. The glide ratio in this case was probably very poor, and he was going to impact short of the runway. At night, pilots can't see terrain directly in front, and the only option here was to land straight ahead. The engine fail occurred at the worst time.
