Calm is better. Some of them, like on TWC, have these loud, urgent voices and make quick movements with their hands as they explain the weather maps. People see that as someone who is anxious and start to feel more anxious themselves. Just how humans work. I don’t think talking about the potential weakening of this storm to a 3 from a 4 as it approaches Florida is a good idea. It lulls people into thinking they’ll be okay and don’t need to get out. A 3 can blow you away and the storm surge would still be catastrophic. We saw the surge from Helene that happened in the Tampa area and also much further south and the center was 200 miles away.

@Sbc-hk8tm NC got the tail end of the hurricane. Their problem is that they almost never had to deal with it. Until now. Fl gets hit annually. Our construction, our draining systems, everything is built with the thought of dealing with hurricanes.

I wish he would STOP saying “weaken” bc it’s misleading to folks especially if they’re new to FL. “Weaken” to a category 3 is still a strong storm with winds of 111-129 mph dangerous winds with extensive damage. This thing is still coming, so take my advise from a former Floridian: prepare now for the worst and pray for the best. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I live in Palm Beach County and just happened upon your forecast, and I have to say as a native Floridian you did a great job forecasting and not causing panic for people. I have seen storms come and go and no one really knows how it will fall but you kept this on topic and kept calm and that is what people need when storms come into our state. I also have a son in law that went to Tampa a few years ago with Fla Power and Light company for months to help with the cleanup and getting the grids back up so emergency workers could get in to help people and the stories he told of what Tampa went through were just tragic. I pray for all of you on that side that this storm calms down in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior and you all are safe and nothing tragic like before. I remember Andrew on this side and one year we got three, so I feel for anyone caught in a storm like this. Once we had a storm and no power for three weeks and cooking on the barbeque grill for a long time. I have to say that us Floridians know how to prepare and help those who are transit to the state and scared and we bond together to help everyone be safe. God bless us all and mostly you on that side. may the winds die down and all goes easier.
