My great aunt Paula was Fred’s girlfriend at the time. She fled days before the FBI shootout. She lived in the house for a bit, and I met her when I was a kid. I wonder if I could skip the wait list….

There was a garage to the right of the building as you enter. I saw it as a child in the early 1960's. The house had been patched up (exterior) pretty well but the garage was full of poorly patched bullet holes. For many years there was a bamboo hedge blocking the view from the road. Do you know if the bamboo hedge was there during the gunfight or was it planted later to keep curious people from viewing the house?

It took me 13 years and several attempts to try to get inside of this house, in my former hometown of Ocklawaha. Yesterday, was the day it finally went down! Thanks for joining me for this long awaited tour! I didn’t feel the need to edit down the footage as much as I normally do, because this video is very important to me. Thanks for always joining and watching, everyone!

Thank you for this very interesting tour. I have lived in North Central Florida since I was 15 years old, that is 60 years and I did not know anything about this. I knew, of course, about the famous Ma Barker and her gang but didn't realize they lived on Lake Weir.

They also had a home in Minnesota. We owned a bar that had a tunnel during the bootleg days. Story was the Barkers and John Dillinger used those tunnels to get away also. The gas station down the street was a hang out for Al Kapone, Dillinger etc. Th3 tunnels went down to the bluffs toward the Mississippi.

Not the same bead. check out the slats in the head frame. There are 7 in the current frame and only 4 in the old photo. Also the guide stated that there was originally only a single bed in that room. What is amazing is that the bullet ridden chair was kept by the new occupants and survived all these years. Great Job !!!

I'm just learning today, March 24, 2024 ! I'm a Florida native - born in Orlando 1975, moved to Tampa suburbs 1984 for my dad to start a construction materials and supply company. Tampa was booming for big buildings and warehouses, which were his specialty. We still spent a lot of weekends in Orlando as that is where all the extended family was. I started showing horses and went to a trainer in Ocala every weekend. Beautiful pastures still today. At some point, my aunt bought herself some land in WEIRSDALE. Now I'm wondering what connections I may have through my cousin at the Lady Lake preservation...that could get me an "in" to Ma's. 😉 Why we've never had a party at Gator Joe's....the threat is gone! Maybe for my 50th next year. Tampa Jay, I appreciate you sharing your adventures. I dig the hat....as long as NHL postseason is complete. ⚡💙⚡

It reminds me of the Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, MA. I've been on a tour there a few times, and it was just like how this tour was. Although most of the furniture and decor at the Lizzie Borden house wasn't original to when the Bordens lived there. It was interesting and creepy at the same time, seeing the pictures of the rooms of Ma's house with the same furniture and items in them.

FYI: Harvey Bailey, another well-known bank robber of the era, knew the Barker gang well, and in his autobiography published in the 1970s, he agreed with Karpis, observing that Ma Barker "couldn't plan breakfast", and was certainly no mastermind behind any gang activity. It is purported that Ma Barker's entire reputation as a criminal mastermind was concocted by Hoover to protect the FBI's public image after federal agents discovered they had killed a 62-year-old mother

My best guess is that they made/demanded Willie to go into that house. And during those times he would have done it. Not because he wanted to simply because he was told. And to cover their ass they gave him the $20 after J Edgar Hoover chewed them a new one for sending him in there the first place. They didn’t have any plans on giving him anything I’m sure. And there’s a old video reel I’ve seen about 10 years ago that one of the gang member had surrendered and he did a black and white news feed and he was saying that ma Barker wasn’t a killer. That she was a sweet old woman that didn’t interfere with her sons operations. She just went along and supported their decisions. He also said that they used to drop her off at the movies when they were out kidnapping and robbing. I wouldn’t take J Edgar Hoover word for jack crap when he made the discolorful comment about Ma Barker. Hell he didn’t speak highly of Martin Luther King and he was a peaceful man. There was a movie made in the late 60s early 70s with Robert De Niro, playing the youngest son, who died of a heroin overdose. In the movie they made it seem that she was a freaky old lady that were getting it on with the men of the gang including her sons. Is there any truth to that? I mean where does The creator of that movie come up with ideas like that?

Not so historical anymore after moving the house across to Carney Island Park. But now a daily tourist local spot as opposed to where the actual shooting took place. I mean it's Ocklawaha for heavens sake! Why relocate it? Not like they are going to build a mall there. And sadly that house was/ is in much better condition than the ones still there in that neighborhood.

That's was Super Awesome! Thank you so much! I'm so happy you got to go in finally and I learned a lot during this! 🤘 I'm curious why some bullet holes were repaired and some left but, happy it's as preserved as it it. :)

I was in that house for a day when I cleaned it before the Carsons sold it. Bummed they had remodeled the kitchen. But all the rest looked original. The rugs were falling apart. It was really neat to see the pics of the barker family. It is not haunted, sorry. I even came across a local ghost hunter who hung out there and agreed it has no ghost activity.

@@TampaJay it was interesting to think I was walking on the same rugs they did. Clearly the rugs have been replaced. There was more furniture then your video showed. It was kinda cool the carsons left it original.

Awesome! Thank you!! I used to walk around this house in the 90's. Seen the holes in the walls. Looked in the windows. Looked up the history on my own. So cool that you got to see the inside, and showed it to everyone!! It was nice to see Ocklawaha again!! I havent been there in almost 20 years... wow!!

When on a tour not long after they moved it. Was great. The guy that took the tour through it was very good. Great part of history.

Once these famous houses are moved they lose their historical value. It's not the same anymore, same with Jesse James house they moved.

I knew I felt a lil connection between You n Chris! You guys remind me of my son I took him from NYC(queens) to Ocala 2015 promised a business had some shady relatives in Ocala and was roped in!!! Lol what a mess?! Ocala is a strange place for people from the north! My son played with the "Misfits" and is a bassist Ocala isn't the place for that! Glad to see u made it out the other side just another experience in life !! Much luck to you both ❤️
