Hey, Tampa Jay, if you ever go to Illinois by chance, there are three "Original Resturaunts" to check out for your series on original resturaunts. They are: The First Franchised McDonald's in Des Plaines, Illinois (Near Chicago); The Original Burger King in Mattoon, Illinois; and The First Steak 'n Shake in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois. The Original McDonald's is gone now, but a nearby current McDonald's has a lot of the old memorabilia in the resturaunt. The Original Burger King in Mattoon is not part of The Burger King franchise (Which started in Florida, btw), but it's a nice little family resturaunt that's actually older than The Burger King Franchise. And The Original Steak 'n Shake is now a "Monical's Pizza" resturaunt on Main Street, and Virginia Avenue in Normal, right along the old Route 66. You should check these places out.
