The aperture difference is just in depth of field. To achieve same field of view on APS-C you need to stand back further. That increased distance from subject is responsible for the difference.

It is two years later but if you use 1/60-100 at 200mm it is not enough. I have a7c and 70-300 and it is sharp at 300mm. A rule is to use a shutter speed that match the zoom focal length. 1/300 for 300mm minimum. 1/100 for 100mm minimum. 1/60 for 60mm minimum. Also after it depends if you add movement and the subhect movement. For bird 1/2000, for animal i use 1/300 to 1/1000, when i use my 70-300 at 300mm

Is it better to buy a Sony 18-105 lens or a Tamron 28-200 for the alpha6000? I know that the tamron has a bigger "shot" but I wonder which one takes better photos at the focal lengths I use most often, around 16-28 and 50-100. I also have a kit for the sony 16-50 and 55-210. I would like to have one lens for everything :)
@schnubbel76 Жыл бұрын
I would recommend the 18-135 as a one for everything lens instead of the 18-105. Of course the 18-105 has the advantage of a constant f4 aperture while the 18-135 steps down to f5.6 at the long end. But is is smaller, weighs less, more tele-range and imo sharper pictures. I tested the 18-135 vs. the 18-105 two years ago when i was looking for my one-for-all solution and i stuck with the 18-135. Regarding the Tamron, i really dont get the praise for it's picture quality, i tdont hink it is that good. But the zoom range is of course very interesting, if you want that 200mm tele. Keep it mind, that is is has less wide angle, starting at 18mm, wich i a significant difference to 16 or 18mm. Use your 16-50 on 28 mm, take all kinds of pictures with it and see if you can live with that limitation or if you need more wide angle.

Stopping down means making the aperture smaller or increasing the size of the aperture. The smallest number is wide open. The larger the aperture number the less light that comes in so that’s stopping down.

What f2.8-5.6 means this. At wide angle 28mm the widest aperture is 2.8, and at max zoom 200mm widest aperture is 5.6. Hence, f2.8-5.6. It does not indicate the smallest aperture, you will have to look at the specifications for each lens. So you can step down to f7.1, f16, f22, etc. at most focal lengths.

That makes sense. I was confused. At first I thought the smallest aperture was f5.6. Thank you.

I am shocked about the positive reviews this lens gets. I wanted to replace my Sony 18-135 with it, because i wanted some more tele range and did not care so much about the loss of the 10 mm wide angle. I tested it for two weeks and i expected it at least be on the same level of picture quality and sharpness of the sony 18-135 to justify the change to a way bigger, heavier more expensive lens with less wide angle. Yes, it might still be a good performance for that price, but the Sony 18-135 just delivers better picture quality. It does not have the fast starting aperture and not the longer tele range of the tamron, but it is way more compact and cost less. So thanks but no, the Tamron was sent back.
@nils7888 Жыл бұрын
Well, the 18-135 isn't a choice for full frame, so it is no contest there. If I had APSC I would probably go for the 18-135 too. But for a full frame the 28-200 just is insane performance with very reasonable compromises

The old saying " you got what you paid for " is definitely true for this lens, it's only great when you treat it as a $700 lens. Yes i am an actual owner of the lens. In my opinion lens review and talking about how sharp the lens is without a side-by-side comparison with another lens is pretty meaningless. My kit lens it's really sharp compared to the iPhone it's horrible compared to the 24-70 GM, so is it a sharp lens or horrible lens? It's all relative.
