Thanks for the review Jake and for your action. I love the ability to use the crop in on the A7III as well (video at least). A trick I used to use when photographing events years back was running with two cameras; a full frame for wide and med med telephoto lens’s and a crop frame with a 70-200 to get an extra reach as needed. Also you have steady hands!

You're lucky to have Alaska, take good care of it. Norway is now utterly destroyed by wind power plants all over. Google, Fb, German capital and so on, really every vista is destroyed, and with Hurtigruten Cruise-ship you can now only travel 16 minutes along the Norwegian coast without seeing wind turbines, and it's to become worse, much worse!

What an adventure! Thankful you were there to lend a hand. Thanks also for the review, I think this lens may seal the deal on the MILC eco-system I'm buying into (Sold all my Nikon DSLR kit 2 years ago). Loaded question, but how would you pit the Sony 24-105 4.0 against this lens? Great content, Sub'd!
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
This lens will give you a lot more zoom in the telephoto lens and on sharpness they will be pretty close but I think this will win out overall. If you plan to do a lot of handheld shooting then the Sony will do better since it has OSS built in. Either one will serve you very well for a single lens. Tamron is also coming out with a 70-300 that would pair well with the sony if you decided to go that route but then get a more telephoto lens later. Cheers!

@@JakeSloan Thanks Jake, good advice. I rented the A7III last year with the 4.0 and really enjoyed it, but with 6 kids the reach of the 200 would be useful. That is a great review! I have Sony 24-105mm f4. Thinking about to replace, but not sure I can.
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
Why do you want to replace it? Does it not perform well?
@Int4every4 жыл бұрын
@@JakeSloan it perform very well, but sometimes I need more than 105mm. 28-200mm versatile focal range
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
well then def consider this lens
@scottlee46642 жыл бұрын
So how is the replacement? Do you miss 24-105?
@hellopsp1802 жыл бұрын
Its a great reason to bring a super zoom. Not needing to change lenses in environments that are super wet and humid. Not only that but dusty

I am wondering what Nd filter did you use
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
I usually use an ND Filter from Freewell filters. Sometimes I use the Polar Pro variable Nd.

The real question for me is now should this replace my 28-75? It’s basically reach vs f/2.8! I gotta think hard about this. Glad she is expected to be fine!
@edc6414 жыл бұрын
I'm struggling with the same question. Very happy with my 28-75, but maybe the reach of the 28-200 is preferable when being out in the landscape?
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've had the same thought about selling my 28-75 for something like this. I find I use it still in interview sessions etc but I think this would work for that as well. If you find yourself needing more zoom range then I would say yes unless you have the funds for the 70-180 and want the better low light that lens provides
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
It is really nice to have the extra reach when out and about. Not having to worry about switching lenses when time is of the essence is really nice
