Tanaka is my favorite character in Haikyuu because he reminds me of me when I play sports, you don't see him doing big plays and may not be the best, but he is a support who gives everything and is there when needed the most. That is why I love this episode, it reminds me that even being average you have to still try your hardest, so when the moment comes it will matter you being there. I think he is the representation of everybody who loves sports and still plays them when we couldn't get to a higher level at the sport like going pro.

Tanaka has been working on that sharp cross spike since he saw Bokuto do it in the middle of season 2's training arc. To see him be the very embodiment of perseverance, his advice to his childhood friend of "just keep trying until you can" being fully actualized on SET POINT is one of my favorite moments of all anime.

This scene still makes me tear up even though I've watched this 100 times. You can just relate that we've all been in that part of our lives where our mindset is the same as emo Tanaka, and it is valid to have that feeling, just make sure to be not afraid to stand back up once you're over it.

Kanoka at the end said that she was heartbroken because she understood that Tanaka would try to reach Kiyoko as hard as he played this game. That Tanaka didn't give up with Kiyoko just like he didn't give up in this game.

This episode is one of my favourite episodes ever in Haikyuu! Tanaka's resolve to keep pushing not despite being average, but just because he is, is something I reminded told myself as well when I was playing.

5:20 It's not about Noya not trusting Tanaka. First of all, Noya is the libero, so he's supposed to receive the ball. Secondly, Tanaka is the wing spiker, so if he were to receive the ball, it would take time away from him to prepare for a spike.

@@metta4270 I don't disagree with you that how's Tanaka feels, but it's Noya's job to receive the ball to ensure that Tanaka has a chance to spike. Also, in sports, helping out teammates doesn't mean you don't trust them.

It's not emphasised but this was also the moment Tanaka finally perfected the cross-court cut shot he's been practicing since the Tokyo training camp in season 2. He started practicing it after seeing Bokuto pull it off, and now at Nationals he nails it in front of his team, Bokuto, Kanoka and himself. Also: if Ryu's average, that means he's better than 50% of everyone else!

I wouldn't call it a crosscourt, crosscourt would imply that it would go from one corner to the other, this is a really harsh angle cut shot that cuts left to right and the floor before even crossing the 3 foot line

Hey Alana, I'm a volleyball player, when Noya "steals" the receive from Tanaka, this is entirely normal as it allows all spikers to be an option for the next play.

Yeah, non volleyball players watching this anime think stuff like receives are extremely dramatized or personal when in fact noya has to go get every ball he possibly is able to so his spikers don't get behind in pace for the attack...

one of my favorite s4 episodes :') tanaka is such a sweetheart and his mental strength is so inspiring. i remember tearing up when he came in to help hinata with the block, then crying like an idiot when he called for that last ball and made that cross shot that he's been trying to execute for so many episodes... gosh this show is too good

It's not that Noya doesn't trust Tanaka with the receive. That's his job, his only role on the court is to Defend, if it were me in Tanaka's shoes i would be glad he took the receive.
