I can't be more precise about what TV and what year.
If you have more info about and want to share, you are welcome to post it :)

Didn't know anything about Tangerine Dream until as a young 17 old travelling through France in the summer of 1975, my brother, a friend and I had the opportunity to go to Orange '75 for one of the nights of what was termed France's Woodstock and I was totally blown away by their amazing soundscapes. What a performance!

Many of my favorite bands show their influences very openly, but not TD. They don't really remind me of anybody that came before them, and that makes them so exciting to listen to, especially if it is something you are hearing for the first time. You just don't know what to expect.

I know Edgar loved Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd which explains his guitar style and Chris was the one that introduced Edgar to John Cage and Stockhausen but the rest I think was musically developed over time. Just three guys making sounds work.

Somehow I feel there was a depth to music, art and even thinking in the 70-80s. To me it seems this depth has faded away. All the impressions of today seems to make things less well thought, less emotional, less intelligent. Instead we consume and become agressive. Don't we yearn for something...deeper?

The best thing about TD is they improvised a lot in their older live performances. I can listen to them for hours.

Up until Stratosfear, all their albums were improvised too. Just spliced the good parts together.

Well they had no choice. The modular synths you see here could not load presets. They had to patch (rewire) the connections and turn knobs into certain positions for every song. I noted that in the 80s they started to use an Atari ST. I belive at that time i was able to hear the difference, since some pieces sounded very artificial due to the lack if quantising.

@@HomerNarr i always felt the lack of quantizing made it sound more raw and natural.
@HomerNarr

@@michaelgranaldi8109 i am not sure we agree on what quantizing means. Unquantized music hits every beat in perfection. Quantizing adds a human factor by adding imperfections. Unquantized sounds robotic. Edit: I learned that Quantizing actually does both: WIth a DAW you can correct timing and make timing errors go away or one can add human feel to a "perfect" rythm that sounds to robotic.

Undoubtedly the best lineup together with Froese Franke Schmoelling. The music is great and way ahead of that time. I'm happy that TD are going Back To The Roots again today. But of course that is not comparable to the beginning of the 70s. Nevertheless, I think that Quäschning and Co. make very good music today. Of course that's not a big deal. The times are over.

The music has nothing to do with the footage as nobody is actually playing the Fender Rhodes or Elka Rhapsody which are the predominant sounds over the sequencing.

@@zorancalic65 you are incorrect, friend. Mellotron had hundreds of sounds available. as a former owner of one i had the list of available samples from the Clearwater Florida Mellotron headquarters (in the 80's) but also a friend actually has the Rhodes tapes. there were regular pianos, Rhodes, Wurlitzers, wine glasses, "wings vocals", guitars, plus there were backing rhythms available. let's not even get into custom tapes that Tangerine Dream and/or Klaus Schulze had made. TD made samples of monophonic moogs and arps so chords could be played... Mellotron was definitely more than violins/flutes/choir. i promise you. i agree there was no need for the Rhodes tapes but it doesn't mean it didn't exist.

If anyone has heard any of there really old recorded stuff they were just experimenting with sounds but they progressed as they went along not unlike pink Floyd but I find that they are the bigger version of them and also there music is unique against all odds of the electronic music and GN Garry numan kind of sparked it off but no where as good as the one and only TD.😊😊
