How do we afford to travel in Mexico?

Why does Maddie do all the driving in Mexico?
What are our first impressions of Puebla City, Puebla?
How much does it cost in Puebla? (Is Puebla expensive?)
and more!
What do you think of today's daily life vlog in Mexico? Do you prefer this type of video or others where we go to events / nature spots / specific topics about Mexico? Let us know in the comments what you think!
So far, we are really enjoying Puebla Mexico! Well, Puebla Puebla to be specific. We are looking forward to exploring some nearby Pueblos Mágicos and see what life is like in this lovely city. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel to see our upcoming Mexico travel vlog about Cholula, Puebla!
ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world-starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our KZbin channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

My wise dad pointed out a few things that we never actually clarified in this video: 1. We get no financial support from our families and never have. 2. We have always lived a very frugal lifestyle and are savvy bargain shoppers... this allowed us to save some money prior to coming to Mexico. 3. When we first came to Mexico we lived solely off of our savings. 4. Now, after being in Mexico for approximately 10 months, our various income streams cover budget-conscious living/travel expenses. 5. When people sign up for Airbnb through our link, we get some Airbnb credit which helps us pay for places to stay. Although it's not technically an income source, it does help to significantly reduce our expenses. And as a side note to the few who might be envious of what appears to be a nonstop vacationing lifestyle, we would like to point out to you that we spend between 30-40 hours of work (Filming, editing, driving, responding to comments/messages etc.) to make one 15-minute video. Typically we try to do at least two videos a week. This means we are working behind the scenes 60 to 80 hours worked per week. Some of this includes the 1-2 hours per day (seven days a week) answering questions and communicating with our subscribers/followers, aka Tangerineys. :) We love doing this! But collectively Jordan and I are working harder than we ever did at our full-time jobs back in the US. THANK YOU to those of you who believe in us no matter what and thoroughly appreciate what we're doing for Mexico, fellow travelers, and awesome people such as yourself.

I love your videos. You guys rock! I think you did an excellent job of explaining your situation. I also think that you never should have had to do that. That is personal. I bet that if you asked the same of the people who insist on an explanation, they would decline. I like these "day in the life of Maddie and jordan" videos! Keep up the good work.☺❤

Guys, you shouldn't justify yourselfs, what do we care about your income or lifestyle? We care that you vlog in english so the rest of the world can see that México is not a third world country flooded with criminals and drugs. If someone envy you, he's not a real sub and you don't need him. Real mexicans don't envy, we worker harder to get to the point we want to be.

It's interesting to know how you manage to have that lifestyle, that many people, if not all, would like to have, living freely and not trapped in a daily job. You seem to have that kind of life. So I think that the majority of people, we are living a life that doesn't satisfy our expectations, just a few like you can, and from that large number of people that are not satisfied, just a few are bitterly envious of those few who enjoy life, I think that most of your viewers enjoy your videos without envy, we rather have aspirations for a better life. Where I am getting at is just a reflexion on how there are envious and rude people that were able to draw your attention a little, but hopefully, you shouldn't forget that most of the people watching you don't mind if you came from wealthy families or were privileged with a great and easy job, what matters is that your content is always positive, interesting and enjoyable, other youtubers don't provide quality content as you do, probably those youtubers that are toxic might deserve a more rude and raw criticism, but you are on the good side. In conclusion, you don't have to give further or detailed explanations of your personal financial information.

I am old enough to be your grandfather, but I love you guys. Jordan I am a fellow Minnesotan and so want out of the cold. I love your bravery for doing this by yourselves. All my out of country experience have been in groups. My whole life has been in IT, but I am amazed how your generation has harnessed the power of technology and social media. I really love your how-to videos. The one on getting a Mexican cellphone was great. More of these would be nice. For instance; I have never used Uber/Lyft in the U.S. and would be lost trying to do it in Mexico, but it seems really convenient. A how-to on that would be helpful. Lastly adding a summary at the end would be great for those of us who are clueless. Step 1, step 2, etc.. Again you kids are great!

@@TangerineTravels I am a relatively new subscriber and really enjoy your bringing us along on the adventure. I completely agree on the acceptability of " how do you do it?" and the total rudeness of "how much do you make?" What would be of interest to many, I believe, would be some type of estimate of the cost of some of the "cost of living" variables, ie. rent, food, gas, etc. I realize that these will perhaps vary widely between villages and urban areas, coast vs. inland, etc., but still of some interest, even if presented in ranges. Just keep on sharing the ride please.

This is my first comment to your video or anyone else's for that matter - but you asked. I think you are doing a great job of sharing your adventures in Mexico and I really appreciate and enjoy all of them. My travels in Mexico have been limited to Ajijic several times - which I am in love with, and then my wife and I lived in San Carlos, Sonora, for five months in the winter way back in 2008-2009. You have already shown us so many new places to see and I have learned a lot. Thank you very much for what you do. I love your positive attitude and genuinely friendly way of sharing what you are doing with the rest of us. Can't wait for more! Don

Just discovered your videos recently. Was looking because my husband is currently living in Mexico, following an interest he just "had to" pan out, so I'm curious about finding out whatever I can with living in Mexico, and trying to give him helpful info when we talk on the phone. But my point in commenting is, I just wanted to say that you guys are the SWEETEST couple! But because you are open enough to share anyway. This has got to be a full time job for both of you. I hope you get to the point you are making the foreign equivalent of 100k each at least. Regarding the questions people were asking, three of my favorite KZbin videos that I watch every day are yours (traveling all around Mexico), Sailing La Vagabonded (sailing all over the world in their catamaran), and Matt Guthmiller (flying all over in his six-seater airplane) all receive pretty much the same types of questions and in all cases the videos present a life of seemingly unlimited travel and freedom. I think if people watch and absorb these videos enough, they will find out that if they have the same type of dreams and are able to focus on making that happen and also being willing to make some sacrifices, these dreams are all doable. Having video and editing skills is a must, of course, if people want to communicate and share with others their experiences. Nobody is going to be making money from KZbin videos if their videos aren't exciting, informative, and entertaining, and I helps a lot to have appealing presenters, as all of my three favorite channels definitely do!. I think yours is performing a real service, because the impression I think most of us have regarding Mexico these days is that it is a dangerous pit of crime and gangland torture and murders. While I, myself had vagabonded all around Mexico in the mid-1980s, I recently figured I would net set foot there ever again--way too dangerous!. But your videos have shown a completely different picture of current Mexico and I believe that yours is the the truth instead of the bad rumors. Not only do you make me wanted to go back there to explore some more, but I could even contemplate LIVING there (gasp), except I do fear that I might feel rather lonely and even claustrophobic just because of the language issue. (Yes, I could learn Spanish, but....) It's funny, when I was there before, I didn't want to see or HEAR an American, but now I wouldn't want to live there if I couldn't find a community of at least English speakers. Actually, my favorite people to run into when traveling elsewhere in the world are those from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, South Africa, and so on...English speakers, but those who come from elsewhere in the world. Lately, though, I come to see that there is a breed of American that are as much "native" as the "natives", such as those on the three channels that I mentioned. And that is a good thing!

On the revenue sources question, I agree with Maddie. That is your private business. As you do, it is, to me, important that you disclose if you receive an incentive to promote say a restaurant or hotel / particular airbnb. Not the details, just that you are receiving an incentive. Personally, once every year or so, I would be interested in learning about how much you spend (generally) on certain costs (i.e. car insurance, medical insurance, food per month, housing per month, etc.). Just to contrast to the US costs. Jordan does a good job of this from time to time. PS. Looking forward to more video or Puebla and Merida.

We feel it's very important to mention if anyone is ever paying us to promote their product, restaurant, hotel, or whatever it might be. We also think it's important to clarify when we mention a product that we aren't getting sponsored by so no one thinks we're withholding information. For certain experiences where we are just getting the "thing" for free in exchange for a small part in the video, we'd either _not_, include it in the video if we didn't like it, or include it because we enjoyed it and think others would as well. Once we've been here for a full year, sharing those insurance, medical, food, etc. costs would make a great video. Very useful for others wanting to travel or explore Mexico life. Thanks for the feedback James!

Tangerine Travels ...I understand the two of you wanting to be up front with everything, but like you've stated in this video and other ones, you would only promote products you like or use. So, there really would be no reason to disclose everything, because you're already being honest about products you like and use. For example, look at some cooking channels, or actual tv cooking shows, where there's massive amount of product placements, from ingredients to mixers, and they rarely if ever disclose the financials of those products. And there's no disclose financial on the tv platform. There's this one cooking channel who's not supported with product sponsors, but he should be, because he's basically the best free advertising a company could have for the products he loves to use. What's funny, is I feel Toyota should actually sponsor you, because your channel has been the only channel that authentically promotes the car, because you truly like it. With people asking how you make money and how much, can be taken two ways. The first and most likely reason people ask, is simply because they're being rude, and every one of them behind the screen, think they're entitled. Everyone seems to think they're gods behinds these screens. But in real life, they wouldn't dare ask people face to face these questions. The second reason, and I would guess this group of people are pretty small in numbers. And I would include myself in this group. We're curious about the *how,* because we're either thinking, or are in the process of breaking away from the machine to try something new, and are interested in ways to earn money in the non-tradition sense.

Mexico City was difficult to drive and sometimes you end up going the wrong way or cannot find a way to turn RH onto another busy street, because they don't have transitions or ramps - you have to know where to go back into the neighborhood to get down on the other route.
