No surprise that Tangmere has blown a gasket, no other steam loco has worked as hard this year. At least we might see a more varied selection, a Black 5 hauled the last one.

Similar to the service record of the unrebuilt locos in British Railways days. This is why they were rebuilt with new valve gear etc.

From what I’ve heard she’s thrown a piston so out for the rest of the season that’s left Edit: at minimum Hopefully the techs can get her back for the Xmas runs

I’m not sure what ‘throwing a piston’ might mean in a steam loco. Cotter retaining the piston into the cross head worked loose and piston head was driven under pressure into the end of the cylinder?

Who knows mate but it must be because it is one of the only locos they can use and it is being worked very hard! Also because it is very old now 😅

@@nickscontractingservices3408 From the picture I've seen the front of the left hand cylinder cover was blown off and some of the casting damaged. Unsure of how exactly but new cylinder block required

They put to many coaches Plus a Tin box on the back to haul ... These Loco's are very old and should be treated as such
