Ebo means Ope, giving thanks. Bible called it : Erubo ope si Oluwa. ( give sacrifice of thank to God ) The Muslims called it : ki won yan Saka, ( Sara ) In the tradition of Odu Ifa. When there's a problem or any difficulty in someone life or in a village. The Odu will demand for Ebo, sacrifice also mean Ope. The Ebo now depends on the type of odu that came out. The Muslims use eko ati akara to do Sara or yan Saka and akara is made from beans fried with epo. Either you take it to ori ta meta or you give to group of people to eat Ebo is ope., ope is sacrifice . Obi is also one of our African snack. Be proud of your origin and stop condemned.

You are right, there is a lot of misunderstanding of Isese. Ibrahim Chatta, though a cultural enthusiast, is not an Isese expert. "Esu ma se mi, omo elomi ni ko se" is a ridiculous saying. If you have done wrong, Esu Odara will ensure wrong comes back to you. If you do right, Esu Odara will ensure right comes back to you. So you can't say oh Esu don't punish, me punish someone else when you have done wrong! Esu is impartial and objective and works with the forces of nature and natural justice. Also Esu plays many roles in the Yoruba Isese, which is why people say there are different types of Esu. However there is no link to satan or devil in Abrahamic religion. Yoruba Isese has its own ideology and beliefs that has nothing to do with what they practise in the middle-east. There is no such place as "hell" in Isese for example. Think about it, if satan or devil is Esu, so tell me, which characters in the bible or quran is Obatala, Orunmila, Ogun, Iyemoja, Osun, Awon Iyami? All of these are Irumole and Orisha like Esu, in fact Orunmila is Esu's most trusted friend. The reason Esu is feared is because of the level of prinicples he has, he is uncompromising. So if you have done wrong and feel you had a good reason to do that wrong, if Esu is called to defend the person you offened, he will defend that person regardless of your good reason. Esu is meant to teach you to do things differently for your own growth rather than what is easy which might be bad for you. That is not to say Isese doesn't recognise there is evil in this world, but such elements are called "Ajogun", they are Elenini, Edi, Epe, these are purely here to destroy.

The people that wrote the Torah, Quran and Bible came up with an entity called devil or satan. That entity lives in a place called hell and is constantly disobeying God of Israel or Allah and disturbing everthing God or Allah created and is an enemy of God. This character called devil or satan and the place he lives (hell) all of them don't exist in Isese. So if you keep saying Esu is Devil or Satan, you are making no sense whatsover, there is no connection. Like I said, why is it only Esu that entered the bible? Where are the other Irumole? Won jo ra won baba. So you will only cause yourself more confusion. Noone knows why Samuel Ajayi Crowther translated Esu into the devil, but all you have to do is listen to Esu's oriki and you understand our own Esu has nothing to do with Abrahamic religion characters. The more you try to use biblican stories to understand Esu, the more confused you will be. We don't justify ourselves or spiritual belief through the bible, quran or torah. We stand on our own age old belief.

Europeans have been coming to Africa since 14th century and along with them came Catholicism and later under british rule the Anglican church. Whether the returned former slaves like Bishop Ajayi Crowther were also preaching the "good word" was irrelevant, he learned it from European slavers and colonisers. When Onisese burnt down the first church missionaries tried to build in Egbaland, it was the church of England that threw heavy money at it to build an even bigger one and they fortified the place with more staff. By all means be a christian, noone will drag that with you, but please don't try to spread false narratives that romanticise what Europeans did to erode the traditional beliefs of Africans. That romanticisation is the reason why African minds are still trapped till today.
