Clownfish are a type of damselfish, so they are closely related to the sergeant majors, blue devils and the like as well as being more distantly related to the cichlids as fellow members of the suborder Labroidei, grouped together because of jaw morphology.

Hey Kev!! You have such informative videos that are very much appreciated. I am new to this hobby and need some help! I have a 3.5 gallon fish tank that I had a tiny red-eared slider in. It seemed like he got stressed and died in about 2 weeks. I then tried adding 2 Pleco's and they died within 3 days...it looked like that might have had Ick? I do have Prime and Stabilizer and I purchased ICK drops. I would like to try again for more fish. Should I leave the water in the tank and treat it since it is already cycled and use the Prime, Stabilizer and Ick drops? I have been using a charcoal filter but my father also has lava rock from his tank he would give me. Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you!!
@misslala7470 Жыл бұрын
They died because a 3.5 gallon tank is way too small and the bio load got too large really quickly. Especially with plecos, they are very messy and red eared sliders need about 50 gallons.

With all the gallons of tanks that you have in the new fish room why don't you use Safe instead of Prime? Does Seachem just give you so much Prime that it doesn't matter to you? Hey Kave, just help me... In my cichlid tank, the kh drops every other day from 11 to 6/7. I have been using continuum buffer but still KH drops however ph is maintained at 8.0 and also gh is fine.. what could be the issue ??
@KaveManAquatics Жыл бұрын
Thats strange, KH and GH usually move with PH. If your PH stays stable, maybe make sure your test kit accurately shows test results. Dosing with malawi buffer and cichlid lake salt will always keep your levels high and stable. Links to them in the description.

I always add malawi buffer and cichlid lake salt to my african tanks. That keeps the PH up while KH and GH follow. I didnt add any here because sting rays are not kept in high PH water.

Planning to add 5 different mbuna family to a 125g tank. All of them would be a breeder group of 1 or 2 males and 4-5 females. Total 25-30 fish. Do you think the different males and females on the same tank would be an issue and fight? Now they are mbunas and more peaceful but still plenty of male and female in there. Thanks for the answer
@KaveManAquatics Жыл бұрын
Mbuna's are not usually "More Peaceful" So if your guys are, you're lucky lol But yes, adding females to a tank with males will cause more aggression problems. When wanting to breed, ratio should be 4-5 females to every 1 male. I have a free webinar training on African Cichlids, you should check it out! - event.webinarjam.com/channel/KaveMan-Aquatics

What's about acclimation from tank to a another tank? Dropping the stingray in high ph tank just like that? Isn't it bad for the fish?
@KaveManAquatics Жыл бұрын
That would be bad. But I did about an 80% water change and didn't add any of the buffers I usually add for the African Cichlids. This means the new water added created a much lower PH than what was in there previously. Now that you mention it, thats something I should have discussed in the video! Great observation though!

My water heater is same. You're not adding in 50 gallons of boiling hot water from your water heater. Adjust your hot and cold so the waters warm to the touch (Close to your tanks temp) and fill up. You wont use up the entire volume of the water heater 😊

I think you’ll be right on the border line of having enough filtration. If you over feed, don’t vacuum enough, don’t water change enough, it could easily not be enough filtration. I would add a Tidal or upgrade to an FX2,4,or 6 if you can. Yea those are over kill, but you may eventually need it in the future anyway 😁

@KaveManAquatics Жыл бұрын
I dont have much experience with sumps together with wavemaker (yet) but I understand the question completely. I would try on same side first and check to see if detritus is actually rising high enough to reach the overflow. If it's not, then having it on opposite side would most likely be best. I'm going sump in the new tank and will get an opportunity to test and adjust for this myself soon. 😊
