🔥🔥TANKING JUST GOT EASIER!!🤯

The ESO Q1 2023 DLC Scribes of Fate is kicking off with a HUGE bang! Making TANKING easier than ever for ALL players in the Elder Scrolls Online!
The old fake saying "soft taunt" which made NO acctual sense in ESO (aggro is aggro, you either have a taunt or you don't. it will hit what it likes, or whatever annoyed it unless you control it)... is now actually a REALITY!
Taunts in the past have been consufing for people as they carried an anti spam or anti troll mechanic.
This applied to TAUNTS of the same kind... SO, basically argue between two players with the same skill more than 3 times ( rather than using opposite skills) and the boss will LOCK on that target only with that skill for a period of time. Disallowing it to go back and forth.
This was designed to stop people constantly grabbing the taunt off the tank when they don't want you to (IE someone else NOT a tank spamming a skill to mess you up). You CAN swap bosses with different skills without issue and you CAN do it with the same skill but capped to 3.
However they found that over time, not all tanks that worked together quite grasped the fundamentals of it as it was never full explained, so now they have raised that swap cap with the same skill to 5 to save every day mistakes (found the balance was around 4 or 5 not 3 in most situations).
A SIMILAR issue was with chains. Chains didn't TAUNT but of course it is painfully obvious that if you hit something first it will LIKELY hit you for a few seconds (not always, a lot of the time they run off which is why tanks had issues keeping stuff still), but they DID have the "if you argue about who is chaining it too often between multiple players, the target would ignore it for a short period of time" built in.
Again, it was an anti troll mechanic. People falsely called this "soft taunt" rather than understanding, "you hit it first, so you got some aggro for a few seconds UNLESS someone taunts it" where as an actual taunt 100% controls the enemy no matter what.
HOWEVER!!! With THIS update (U37 Scribes of Fate) they have COMPLETELY changed the rule. This allows for the anti troll mechanic to stay in place but to also alow for MORE control!
Chains of ANY KIND now OFFICIALLY ***TAUNT***, even without a set that applies the benefit, With a twist!
The FIRST cast of a chain will taunt. Extra casts on top will NOT taunt it and will NOT steal taunt or refresh it. This gives a window of control for the tank to then decide whether or not they want to debuff it, or if they just want to use those 15 seconds to watch it burn...whatever you need to do.
BUT at the same time a REGULAR "hard taunt" CAN overlap it. This means that someone ELSE can chain the target, get aggro for now, and you can take it off them. You could do this before but now it is guaranteed to hit them rather than COULD hit them based on high chance due to first interaction.
One more benefit to the mechanics above, is that if the tank RANGE taunts it, the chain will NOT overlap it...so a friend can chain in everything you just taunted with NO initial damage influenced aggro on them, and NO anti chain/aggro issues for you!
This new feature not only makes things less complex but allows for NEW stratergies AND for build diversity, allowing for extra slots for skills when ONE skill does it all rather than REQUIRING both a pull AND a taunt in some situations!

This is amazing news. If it works properly, hard taunts will always override soft taunts. Soft taunts have been around for many many years in a multitude of mmo games. Now just need a tank skill that will soft taunt a multitude of enemies at one time within a specific radius. Until then, sets will work for now. Love the improvements ESO is working on.

Sounds like what they should do (at least for chains) is, if you're Q'd as a tank, chains taunt. If you're Q'd as a dps, you chains do dps... they can do similar things with different classes

Here's the thing in random dungeon runs a lot of DPS's are stupid and if they do pull something or draw agro instead of running to their tank to take that off of them they'll just run around the room and die and then blame the healer PS this mostly applies towards magic dk DPS using chains

As I understand it, and as someone who uses it, Tormentor is for time and resource efficient group pulling with an added resistance buff. This change seems to effect aggro in such a way to alleviate non-tank taunting concerns. Essentially, it lets DPS and others manipulate a boss without disrupting your aggro on it. Otherwise, it adds an *initial* taunt for chain abilities. Unlike Torm which allows an array of abilities to apply constant aoe taunt. Torm still has its place.

@@mergenocide Currently chains without set abilities does not taunt. I use Tormenter in a lot of content for the taunt. Yeah, you get taunt from other abilities as well with tormenter. But nothing that can't be replicated with a chain and a secondary set I'm already using with Tormenter. I'm not complaining at all. It will allow me the freedom to use a different set like Yolna or Leeching, etc. I'll probably still use Tormenter on 4 man content though

because 98% of the dps in dungeon queue are NPCs that cant pass 10k dps and take an hour to do a souless dung quest and they want to play the game

Soft taunt is a poor term as it implies it is the same as the previous version we used to have that gave 7 seconds of 'aggro' on initial contact with a detrimental skill. This is a 15 second aggro that will not be removed or overwritten by anything other than a true taunt ability. It is nice, but for most tanks, it won't make a vast difference, as we generally lock most stuff down in a few seconds anyway.

Hi! im kinda new on taking. I always keep the boss taunted 100% of the time, but sometimes the boss still prefer to attack my DPS or Healer for a short period of time, but why?

In some boss fights the boss will just automatically go after another player and then return back to you. Its just the way the devs made that particular encounter. Guess it's the devs way of keeping the dps & healer on their toes? :)

Echoing Vet, some bosses and mobs have a specific attack or abillity that will cause them to ignore the original person they taunted just for that attack, but if you pay attention to their debuffs, you'll note that they are still taunted. Sometimes there are mobs that quite literally cant be taunted. Shipwrights Regret is a great example. The ghosts a few trash packs in, and the pack that spawns from the Nazaray boss completely ignore taunt, going after the person they've fixated on to. The drowned hulk during the last boss can be taunted, but has an abillity where he will do a lumbering charge where he targets a random person and after the ability's completion, he typically resumes attacking the previously taunted player. Sometimes you may need to reapply taunt as the the taunt disregarding abillity may break it. So it's always good to pay attention to debuffs.

Doesn't work with any AoE pulls. If you want that effect though you can run Tormentor and Void Bash on a Templar.

There is no need to taunt them, bash, drop blockade, then ice pulsar to lock it all. Add caltrops if you have not. Zero need to taunt in a decent group.

@@firebrand2532 Use the Tormentors set and select explosive charge morph (This allows you to taunt anything you charge to and anything the charge explosion hits). U can also use one of the sets that pull in all the enemies you charge to for extra points. Congrats, now u can tank as you would in world of warcraft or any other mmo
