Buttercup the cat had been a constant symbol throughout the movies as you've noticed. He is in the first few minutes of each movie. Buttercup is a direct reflection of katniss herself, rough around the edges. But one person loved buttercup most and the person who loved Katniss most was Prim. We see buttercup show up in 12 in the last movie, somehow he survived the bombing And came back for prim. And again, in this movie, he returns to find prim but can't. Same as katniss herself: Returning to a place she once found prim- only to find nothing. As we know, katniss protected prim, prim protected buttercup. He is a symbol of survival and a parallel to Katniss herself. Buttercup, though unfriendly, survives again and again, much like Katniss. Hope this makes sense!

Peeta always represented the kindness that she needed. I always also felt the connection that was much more real than the relationship with Gale. Peeta is the heart of the books and her. Even after all the suffering and internal fighting. He means the possibility of rebuilding and healing. This is the last paragraph from the series: “Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real.”

I want to add that the reason Prim was there at the capitol wasn't because she was an approved doctor yet. She even last told Katniss they were only just training her. Coin purposely sent her there to where she planned to bomb, as she wanted Prim to die to control Katniss. That way Katniss's anger would be directed where she wanted, and thusly her support as well. It was her plan then and there to kill Coin as she was no better than Snow. Haymitch agreed to follow because he noticed Katniss was up to something. He's always with the Mockingjay. something you might’ve missed because it was so subtle; when katniss is getting ready to kill snow/coin she takes her nightlock pill and puts in in her shirt and then after she kills coin she goes to grab it intending to kill herself. this whole series started with her trying to save prim and she feels she has nothing to live for now that prim is dead. right when she goes to take it peeta stops her and gives her that look before she’s dragged away. people tend to miss it in the movies since you can’t hear her inner monologue like you can in the books but katniss is always determined to save the ones she loves even if it means she dies and it goes more into her suicidal thoughts. in the first one to save prim, in the second to save peeta, in the third to aid the revolution and the last one because of prims death.

the book’s epilogue felt a little more bleak because we’re in katniss’s head for the whole series, so we hear her talk about how her kids are playing on the graveyard of those who died in district twelve and that they’ll learn about it one day, and she talks about how she suffers from constant nightmares and peeta still having flashbacks every now and then. but that whole monologue at the end is exactly from the book, showing that there is still some hope for the future, which i really loved. i first read and watched this series back in middle school but i really didn’t get to appreciate it until i got older

Prim was actually too young to be a medic on the frontlines but Coin basically bypassed the age restriction to get her there. So happy to hear Peeta is your favourite character just based off the movies. I’ve always felt like the movies didn’t do him justice because usually people who only watched the series and didn’t read the books hate on him. The movies did mellow him down a lot. He’s very witty and sarcastic in the books. Speaking of which, I really recommend reading them. They delve into everything a lot more. Peeta and Katniss’ relationship is a lot more fleshed out too. All in all, I really enjoyed your reaction. You caught on things a lot faster than any reactors I’ve seen. And of course, I loved your zero tolerance for Gale 😂. P.S. To answer your question about how Peeta’s appearance managed to change so quickly between the interviews, it’s because the Capitol recorded the first two when he was first captured but aired the second one later. So he’s actually tortured and hijacked for most of the time during his capture, leading up to the rescue. In the books, that was roughly 6 to 8 weeks.

@@blahblahblah02 She definitely had no guarantee that Katniss would be there to witness her sister's death but yes, in the book, when Katniss tries to work out whether Snow is telling the truth or not, she thinks about how Prim was too young to serve as a medic in the war based on District 13's standards (she was still 13) so her showing up on the frontlines would have required Coin's clearance. And Coin obviously knew about the bombs. I don't know if she knew specifically that Prim's unit would be the one assigned to treat the Capitol children affected by the bombs, but chances are she knew since she was in charge. Either way, she sent rebel medics to respond to the bombs knowing they'd all be killed. So yeah, Katniss did everyone a favour by voting "yes, for Prim" and getting rid of Coin.

I, too, originally felt like the love triangle was being shoved in our faces. But 10 years after revisiting these movies, I think I've reconciled something - there is no love triangle. Suzanne Collins'writing is so clever with symbolism. I think the love triangle is allegory for Katniss' choice in preserving her humanity vs dehumanizing your enemies in war. We know what Peeta and Gale are from the first movie. Peeta: "I don't want them to change me...I still want to be me." VS Gale's response to Katniss saying she's only hunted animals: "It's no different." I don't hate Gale - he just shows us how someone can become radicalized to Coin's methods of "whatever it takes," commit atrocities, and after be able to say, as Gale did: "I can live with that."

I think these are some of your best reactions! I preferred Gale when I read the books but Peeta in the movies. The thing about the books is that it’s from Katniss’ point of view and she’s not really interested in either of them. She’s just trying to keep herself and Prim alive. To her, there isn’t really a choice to be made until after the war because any of them may not make it so why deal with it now? Once she sees it was a double bomb that killed Prim and there’s no way to know if it was from the rebels or the Capitol, she’ll never be able to choose Gale as she’ll never know if it was his design that killed Prim. In the end, she could’ve chosen to be alone, but there was no choice between Peeta and Gale anymore. That choice was made by the death of Prim. One thing I wish they had found 5 minutes to include in Part 1 is a montage of scenes with Katniss and Johanna. In Dist. 13 they are uneasy roommates and both want to join the war effort as fighters. To do so they have to pass the same training test as all the other soldiers. They train together annd support each other and Katniss notices Johanna never showers and thinks it’s weird. Katniss ends up passing the test but Johanna fails due to one part that involves water. We come to learn that the way she was tortured while a prisoner of the Capitol was being soaked in water and then they’d use electricity on her. The montage I wish they’d had in Part 2 is Katniss’ complete mental breakdown after the death of Prim. In the books, it is not a short amount of time between Prim’s death and Snow’s execution. There are trials and Katniss is catatonic for all of it. She already had PTSD and after Prim’s death her mental health issues compound and the book is full of scenes of her hiding in closets, being sedated, freaking out, etc. I wish they had done less of the forced love triangle and more of the psychological effects of war, since that was the focus of the books. “Collins' idea for the “Hunger Games” came from her own experience with desensitization related to the Iraq War. She became inspired by her own meshing of reality television and heartbreaking news. Then, she chose to write a story to help young readers understand the harsh reality of becoming desensitized to mass death.”

i think is really interesting how the love triangle in this series, at the end, is part of the representation of Katniss chosing between war (Gale) and peace (Peeta) throughout the story she before constantly choose to fight because she didn't have the option to not if she wanted to protect her loved ones, but at the end, she finally has a choice since they finally won against the capitol, and that's why she kills Coin, who just wanted to replace the system instead of destroying it, and stays with Peeta, who despite everything that has happened, still offers every day the option to start again and heal to Katniss, which is something that Gale was never able to do sadly, since he's so full of hatred (which, given his story makes sense, but although understandable does not change the fact Katniss doesn't need more of that, she says in the books that she already has a lot of that on her own)

One thing the books bring up as Katniss contemplates if Snow is telling the truth, is that to be a “soldier” in district 13, and be anywhere near battle, the kids had to be 14 or 15 (can’t remember in the moment). Prim was 13, and Katniss couldn’t figure out why she’d have been allowed to be there. That’s when Katniss realized that Coin placed Prim there to take her out. Hope you’ve watched the prequel. It’s such a great backstory on the games, and on Snow. I’m going to check now…

I LIVE for him 1) Loving Finnick. 2) Hating Gale. 3) Defending Peeta. Great reactions, I loved them. About Katniss being hated in the fandom, I personally haven't seen any hate towards her. I love the character in the books, her perspective is really interesting and she's just a good character for me. I wish they had chosen a different actress for the movies, because I don't like JLaw at all, but what's done it's done, and that still doesn't make me hate the character. What I don't like is the whole team thing, I couldn't care less about that triangle but I admit, the way the media turned out to be just like the Capitol (focusing on a love triangle while being presented a story about a totalitarian government forcing kids to kill kids), will always be interesting to me. I don't know if that was on purpose or not, but yeah, it's always been one of my favorite parts of the whole Hunger Games experience, because of how fascinating it is. And now I'm off to binge the Maze Runner's reactions. I'm so glad I found this channel. Keep it on, you're doing great!

I knew as soon as you instantly loved Finnick in Catching fire that you were going to be heartbroken in Mockingjay part 2. Prim’s death is still the worst for me, Katniss volunteered to save her life and she still ends up dying while trying to help injured Capitol citizens. Mockingjay part 2 is an excellent movie, definitely one of if not the best of the series. The scene with Buttercup and Katniss always makes me tear up.

One thing with prim is that when Katniss saw her before the bomb prim was probably shocked that katniss was still alive because everyone still thought she was dead. And their mom either got news that both her children were dead, or that katniss was alive but prim was dead. 😢😢😢😭

Can't wait for the prequel to come out, that book is incredible. Show's how snow made the games to what it is, and how he was the one to help the very first tribute from twelve win her games. She eventually realizes how evil he is and turns against him. It's why he hates Katniss so much.
@lolatellier6337 Жыл бұрын
I don't know if someone already said this, but the fact that Prim was on the battlefield was probably planned by Coin, because Prim was only 13 at the time, and the minimum age for going into battle in district 13 is 14 years old, so the fact that Prim died is again a punishment for Katniss, but this time, the punishment is inflicted by Coin. Prim could have lived, but Coin showed that she was "worse" than Snow, because she made the call to kill all of those children, but also the medic people that were going to check on them later, while she knew that Prim would be in there

so after the whole revolution, Commander Paylor became the president, Gale settled in district two and worked as a trainer for capitol’s peacekeepers, Effie is back in the capitol where she came from, Katniss’ mom moved to district four and worked in a hospital. leaving only haymitch, peeta and katniss in district 12.

Prim's death was very symbolic and purposeful. Katniss volunteered when her sister's name was drawn and was willing to sacrifice her life so that her sister could survive the Games. Ultimately, she was the victor of the 74th hunger games. Except, like Haymitch said, "nobody ever wins the games". And since Katniss' first win was saving Prim, her death symbolizes Katniss finally meeting the faith every citizen of Panem must face: loss to the Games (in this case, as a precursor for the Games that Coin wanted to enact).

OMG I just love so much how you catch - since the begining - how Peeta and Katniss relationship is strange but beautiful. All the things happening around them, the world burning, but their "stay with me. Always" was ever true. Even in Mockinjay Part 1 when he's being tortured, he succeed in warning them for good. They are THE BEST young adult couple from their time (the 10's). And Katniss??!! A great protagonist!

Snow tortures and kills countless people, has a reign of terror and suffering for decades over an entire country and you're like "hes a cool guy, cool villian" Gale dares to walk into a scene and youre like "oh my God i hate this dude!" 😂😂😂❤
@paigenoelle02 Жыл бұрын
fun fact: the author said she really regretted killing finnick😭 also 2 things: 1.) the bombs were gales idea so he was directly responsible for prims death 2.) when katniss kills coin u can see her reaching into her shirt pocket for the night lock pill which peeta slaps out of her hand, she was going to kill herself

I love the way these books/movies end, even thought I've always felt like the epilogue could've been cut. I love the bittersweet realness of it all, it's not all good as soon as the war is done. The scars and the trauma is still very much there, but they find some kind of peace in the new. When cinema therapy watched this, Jonatan in the end references to a series (don't remember which one lol) with the quote "The war is done and we kind of won?" - and I feel like that is a perfect way to describe this ending. They get what they fought for, they won the war and there's no more games, but you still have the feeling that for them personally the loss was almost not worth it. They all lost almost everything, but each other. I've always thought this last movie has gotten too much slander, I think i'ts beautiful and I'm happy you liked it. Thank you for watching it

Since you liked Snow as a villain so much (yes, he's a fascinating one!), you might enjoy knowing that the prequel you mentioned at the end is actually from his perspective, when he was 18! Kind of his villain origin story, so to speak. I thought the book was really good, hopefully the upcoming movie will be too!

The ending of the book was actually when peeta says "you love me, real or not real?" and she says "real" That last scene was exclusive to the movie and i think it hits soooo much harder

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but the bombing of the children was done by Coin’s orders using a ship with the capital symbol on it to turn the last of the guards but the method (half explode then the rest catching anyone who rushes in to help) was actually Gales idea at the beginning of the movie so in effect Coin uses Gale to kill Prim
@ultear_yunan Жыл бұрын
I understand it was Coin dropping bombs because they blew up twice, that was Gail`s idea. He and Katniss fight over it earlier.

the whiteboard in the back aged prettttyyyyyyyy well. a brief synopsis of the prequel (which was AWESOME): its all about snows backstory. It takes place with him, 16ish(I think), mentoring the female tribute from the 10th hunger games. They fall in love....

The movie coming in november is about the tenth hunger games! It shows president snow when he was eighteen. He's a mentor for district 12's female tribute, Lucy Gray Baird, and a buuuunch of shit happens... I won't spoil too much lol. I hope you'll enjoy it!! The book certainly was very very good

Just binged all your reactions. I love hunger games, still after all these years. And I am in the rabbit hole again. Thanks for watching. I don’t know, if others mentioned this… but little insiders: Finnick and Cashmere were sex trafficked, and in catching fire Finnick and annie and cashmere and gloss were picked to get the favoritism away from peeta and katniss. It was rigged. Joana‘s family was killed because she refused to be sex trafficked. And haymitch is an alcoholic because he was in the 50th games, doubled tributes (48) and he used the shields as a weapon. He won. The capitol didn’t like that so they killed all of his family. I would love to see a film about finnick, haymitch and joana. Also cashmere.

Katniss and Peeta were both disabled by the end of the first games. Katniss was deaf in one ear and Peeta’s leg had to be amputated after injuring it in the first games. I wish they would’ve included that, a visual representation of their mental suffering. In general, I do like that they never get back what they lost, it’s realistic, but they do grow and find something different than what they had.

Something I’ve always found interesting that I haven’t yet seen anyone talk about is Coin’s speeches. In Part 1, Plutarch says that a flame is extinguished when it’s smothered and Coin says it’s when you ‘use up all the oxygen in the room’. Snow would give grand speeches but they would be rather straightforward and direct. Notice that her speech at the execution is full of metaphors and flowery language. Made me think she’d be even worse than Snow. Just my thing I’ve noticed 🤷🏼♂️

In the end of the book (and the movie) it was said that Gale moved over to District 2 to help lead the armies of Panem. I wanna say he probably met someone and now has a family but it's been a while since I've seen these movies Also I watched literally all of your reacts to the first 3 movies last night and was excited to see you react to this.
