Tanks (short story) by Murray Leinster
In Tanks, Murray Leinster applies his inventive and unorthodox mind to the future of warfare; written in the 1920's he observed the terrible new inventions used in World War I to kill people: namely armored tanks and poisoned gas and paints a picture of how war will be fought in the future. In Tanks the war will occur in 1932, the U.S. against the Yellow Army. Published in the first issue of Astounding Stories of Super Science, January 1930, Leinster guesses what the future will hold for man based on developing technology that was coming into being at the time, the 1920's. He leads off with a quote from a future historian "... The deciding battle of the War of 1932 was the first in which the use of infantry was practically discontinued ..." -History of the U.S., 1920-1945

Kind of a prewar Tom Clancy novel about next-gen warfare. Well written and reflects what lots of people thought WW2 would be like.

I REALLY appreciate the story synopses. Most channels just have the story with no info. Thank you!

Struggled to keep up with what was happening. Strongly skilled writer. Modeately satisfying.

I find this story to be very interesting. At the time of it's writing it was a prediction of war in the future. Now it feels more like alternate history. The story itself is well written and interesting you listen to, and even though it doesn't make sense in a modern warfare context, it clearly establishes the rules of it's world and everything within the context of the story makes sense and is believable. I love old tank stories like this one, especially when they involve super tanks. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Leinster wrote a story called Politics, about a surprise attack on the US pacific fleet.

Ridiculously dated story, yet an almost accurate prediction for it's time. Really hard to get into knowing actual history.

I don't think you know what "dated" really means. A story can't be "ridiculously dated" and " an almost accurate prediction" at the same time.

@@ianrodd9232 Yes it can be. Like original Star Trek used "data tapes" and never talked about chips, but some predictions were accurate like flip communicators small enough to fit in a hand. That's both dated in regards to tapes being used, but still provides another accurate prediction of what future tech might look like. Something can also be dated in terms of tech, but accurate in predictions of ideology or politics.
