I don’t condone or agree with lying and cheating because that is wrong and yes it’s no excuse for cheating. But Max’s past childhood emotional trauma and upbringing has to be taken into consideration. Max had a horrible childhood and was mentally and physically abused by Jim when he was a child. So Max’s Lying and cheating is probably the result of his childhood trauma and mental and physical child abuse victimization combined along with his parents alcoholism has resulted and contributed in him developing a sexual addiction over the years. He’s still has a lot of childhood issues and those childhood issues haven’t gone away. Max still has them
