I learn something every time I watch your videos. In this one i learned: Modification of spade bits. (VERY useful!) Drilling technique. Problem solving. Manly men may proudly parade pink tools. Measuring and marking technique ( for depth) How to safely gang-cut cylindrical things, (PVC pipe) By accident, your prototype might be the world's fourth-best toilet-paper dispenser! All of that portends, ANY creative project might solve some ancillary problem, therefore ALL creative projects may have ancillary value. Even if projects are not immediately perfect, they have intrinsic and potential value. All of THAT may be one the the primordial purposes of creativity: evolution. Apothegm: All creative effort reaps multiple benefits. Mazel Tov!

Ditto, writ large!!! Love the ironic understated honest style.... Without a flannel shirt and beard anywhere - unless Charlize Theron was wearing them....but like anything Charlize I can never honestly say what she was wearing as I just get captivated looking at her. But I did concentrate until we got to there, promise!!! Cheers and thanks for the editing work etc in getting it to KZbin.

I don't think you can get to the good ideas without making at least a few dumb ones. Sometime I will over think a problem and come up with a complicated solution when there is a much simpler one right in front of my nose. Nicely done. I like your tip about grinding a spade bit to a specific size. Handy.

Nice one, pocket. A couple years ago, I came up with a term for this kind of replacement: "undumbing". It has a quite fun ring to it. Also, 2 birds with one stone, undumbing both your tape holder and the horror that is the toilet roll holder. Seriously those things are such a pain.
@claeswikberg89588 жыл бұрын
so i know it hasn't been a year yet, but how are you liking the tape holder so far?, looked like a pretty good idea, atleast for bigger rolls... maybe with an old hacksawblade attached to the bottom, that could work as a cutoff edge for the tape?
@MikeWarren8 жыл бұрын
I've been puzzling my tape storage for a while now, too. We had similar ideas, but I incorporated a hacksaw blade as the ripping edge. Though, I still need to build mine. I think it's a great idea (and not dumb at all)!
@pocket838 жыл бұрын
What about one of those metal edges from a box of plastic-wrap? Maybe on (or in) the gray tube. You just gave me another idea: What if the tape was put in this thing backwards, so that static electricity and gravity both worked in your favor? Then the adhesive side would move up towards the blade, instead of sticking on the lower pipe. Requires further experimentation ;)
@ou8nucks6308 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing man, I've saw the hacksaw blade incorporated as the "cutter" as well. I've been in desperate need of a tape roll myself and this is one of the best I've seen thus far.

Looks like a smart idea and a definite improvement over the old. I also noticed the mirror on your pillar drill (great idea) and witnessed a method for evenly grinding a spade bit. :-)

Hehe, enjoyable video. I think I learn most from others mistakes if they are presented in a good way. Matthias Wandel has made some videos like that lately but it is very unusual that people want to admit their dumb ideas. Regarding that it reminds me of one thing that bugs me about education. All through school you are shown what works and told what we know but I think I never heard a lesson about what we dont know. Isnt that just as important to know but it is all up to you to discover that for yourself. You have a very distorted view when you leave school, thinking that you know everything.

+pocket83 So first off I want to say that I love your videos. Also, for what it's worth, I like how you don't slow down the sound when you speed up the video. I've been watching some other people who do stuff like you, (because I've seen all of your videos) and when they slow down the sound back to real time it's weird...
@pocket838 жыл бұрын
Thanks! At this point, I'm in around a two hundred vids, counting hidden content, other channels, and stuff I haven't posted. I've tried quite a few editing techniques now. I tried that speed with normal sound, but then you have to add the multiplier for clarity (4x, etc.). The pitch change does that for you. Clarity is key here. As for the speed-up in general, I'm torn. For one, it's almost too easy to film that way, because it is so easy to edit. It's also incredibly misleading. But it's so cool looking!

So, should we expect -- as the emigrating concepts become day and day more tangible and finally burst their way into space and time in this gigantic eruption of hitherto unseen energy fated to collapse into infinitesimal frontiers -- should we expect, I say, the end of the universe in every way we can possibly know it by the year twenty-twenty ? Boy, that escalated quickly.
@pocket838 жыл бұрын
+alazrabed No. It would be the end of conscious creatures that you ought dread, if such a threat were to pose itself. But that isn't any close concern; men are and will be only temporary, but the universe has now become aware, and it will be here for a long time. But yeah, you really jumped right in there without even putting a toe in the water first. Brass tacks. I like that.
