Tape and half speed is one of the most magical things I've learned from you. It's amazing how acoustic even the most machine-like tone becomes. I also really like the idea of sampling a synth-voice from tape recording of a synth tone. It's the most obscure synthesis, I feel it goes beyond sampling.

Hey do either of you have a take on the PMD222's XLR input and noise? I've read there are noise floor issues with that input, but that's also said by people using it for uhhh "traditional" applications. I'm wondering if the noise may in fact, be lovely. Any thoughts? I wouldn't want to do a mod to fix it, rather just get a 221 with an input converter, if absolutely needed.

I have listened to your techniques and wondering if I can use some of them with my relatively simple set up. It is perhaps reawakening what I was doing (or attempting) years ago with tape recorders and at one time a Casio SK-1 (how primitive can you get?). I don't have an OP-1 and can't afford one, but I may find an old sampler some day.
@Hainbach
@Hainbach 6 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely replicate it with any sampler! Maybe even the new Pocket Operator samplers.
@geecen
@geecen 6 жыл бұрын
Nice video. Reeally want to do a bit more with sampling, but can't afford the op1 and the digitakt is only monophonic. Is there another small sampler where you can easily grab recording and pitch them over a keyboard with wave editing? Maybe there isn't, and that's why the op1 is so great!
@Hainbach
@Hainbach 6 жыл бұрын
I really don't know one new sampler that is as much fun. But I have stopped looking after getting the OP1.
@TheCALMInstitute
@TheCALMInstitute 6 жыл бұрын
Take a look at the Korg Microsampler. Every bit as fun, or more, than the OP-1. No wave forms to look at - you'll have to use your ears.
@waltersmetak
@waltersmetak 6 жыл бұрын
Superb as always! But just a quick question - didn't quite catch why you sampled via the Op1 instead of directly using the Morphogene; say, the Fostex or, better still, the Nagra directly into the module. Although I really did love the end product, still, I found it strange that you recorded the piece from tape to the digital sampler of the Op1 instead of feeding it directly into you modular rig. I may have missed something of your explanation, but must say I did find the approach curious (though an incredible use for the Op1's sampler! Really amazing!).
@Hainbach
@Hainbach 6 жыл бұрын
Because the OP1 is poly phonic. This way I could write an harmonic part on it, record that part on the Morphagene, pitch and reverse it, and play the OP1 on top. Hope that makes it clearer.

Have you ever used a genuine spring reverb before? They can be easily found inside those old organs from the 70's that are always being given away for free where I live. Other interesting parts inside may be usable too, such as a Leslie speaker if it had one for a physically moving speaker type tremolo. The reverb would be the easiest though, and can easily be located due to the metal can look to it, the springs, or the reverberation when you shake the thing. :3 Just an idea!

Hainbach, I Love Every Video I've Seen So Far! A few request ideas would be To continue to take Your Tape techniques/production informatives into unassuming spaces to aquire Unique Sounds/depths.. A few Examples perhaps..Set Up some sort of mobile Rig, maybe different for each special scenario. Pick like an old boat or a submarine, an empty water tower, or a factory..running or closed. Perhaps a cafe..Maybe a tennis court, or an open mic night. I love Your happenstances acquired, When You caught Your daughter's Voice or nature sounds or clicks and chirps from machines! When I record at home I get some rogue traffic sounds or dog barks through my walls.. Maybe deliberately set up with permission in a church service, a wedding.. A Grand Cathedral...Record harmonies from The choir, the procession, people kneeling to all stand, book rustling pages for hymns or close to the organ..Picking a Latin or German sermon could be quiet Haunting and unique. You have such a keen ear these would be Lovely audio and visual additions as backdrops or roots to whole new works.. Hainbach, You are Visionary, You Inspire Me!

Wonderful sounds here! I recently picked up a morphagene and have been really enjoying it so far (as a substitute for getting an actual tape recorder for now). I was wondering what you generally do with your morphagene, if there's anything specific you use it for? I would really like to hear your thoughts on the morphagene and what you think it does best/how it fits in your setup.

Sigur Ros - remember when the first album came out. Went to their first show in Hamburg, small place. Got in early cause there were people I wanted to chat to. There was a shyly smiling lanky dude putting up incense all over the place, making my head ache. Space was not accomodating to this much smoke, and my mother always told me how she fainted in church from all the incense. I extinguished the burners around me once he was gone. An hour later, I saw him on stage playing his guitar with a bow and doing his elven whale song. It was Jón.
