When the first episode aired in 1982 I was 12 years old and, at that time, this was the funniest thing I'd ever seen on TV. My jaws would ache from laughter and yet my parents just couldn't understand what I found funny about it. For kids today this sort of program wouldn't be anything they've not seen before and they would probably just have a bit of a giggle watching it but back then there had never been anything like it.

Bloody Nigel Planer! There's a guy who never got the recognition he deserves. Such brilliance, such timing and presence is rare in a comedian. That being said, the cast of the Young Ones were unique in that, that they all shared those unique qualities. One of the funniest shows ever.

True, but Ade and Rick, "bless him" went onto Bottom which was epic, about life after the young ones and you never really seen Nigel or "Mike" the trendy, but class anarco sit-com.

Nigel hit the nail on the head when he pointed out that a good comedy series only last 12 episodes. In the USA, we tend to beat a comedy show into dust. MASH and The Simpsons are good examples of this. I do get tired of a show, no matter how good it is, after 2 years.
@sovietonion72 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, you can keep watching the 12 episodes over and over again and is still funny, never gets old.

As much of a shit as Karl Stefanovic is, at least he has the humour to have allowed Nigel to really have some fun, he visibly changed to Neil after doing the character and they cut him off! I have to agree, Kochie would do well in the US - he's devoid of anything except canned humour and is so damn dull.

We sow the seed, nature grows the seed and we eat the seed.... or something like that lol 😂 the writing and script generated by Ben Elton was crap, if it wasn’t for the talents of the guys and all the mindless violence it wouldn’t have been funny, like bottom many years later, which was pretty much the exact same show wi thy a different look proved that.

No, Nigel...in America, we now shut down series after series after only 3 seasons or so. It doesn't matter if it's good or not. It's a very futile, wasteful...well, millennial way of doing things.
