Taping for painful ingrown

Sometimes we need a quick fix to help us with an ingrown nail before we can get into a professional to seek help

Thank you for sharing this! My 12 year old son has been dealing with ingrown toenail’s nails on both feet for 2 years and has had it removed countless times (the corners) and I don’t want the surgery for him. I’ve tried this method with 4 different tapes and they all come off. I even tried it with the Mueller pre tape spray. Would you mind sharing a link of the exact tape you use? He just had the procedure again 3 weeks ago and it’s starting again. I would really appreciate it 😊

@@sharleen-q7i thank you for reaching out!! Honestly I have this problem too sometimes depending on the skin type or whether or not the skin is overly moist. Have you been trying only with rigid tape? If so you can try doing it with a hypafix/fixomull or micropore (paper tape). These tend to stick better. You can even put rigid tape over the top. Also try using a 1.25cm rigid tape. In addition, Friars Balsam applied to the skin first should make it easier to stick the tape to as well. Please let me know how you go!!

So if it is a little red but no pus or blood should i try pulling the skin away with tap and letting it grow out ?

Yes for sure - a lot of the time it is just pressure that is causing the issue

@@alberttrevino4314 thanks for reaching out The one I'm using is 2.5mm rigid tape but I'd actually suggest the 1.25. It's narrower and easier to use in this instance

Will this work for granulomas? My grandmother has three: one on the outer side of her left big toe, and two on her right (inner and outer side of the toe)

@@Shariqueaziz-r4y it can do, although if you have pus, you likely have an infection and I would suggest seeing a dr or podiatrist to have it managed

Just some 2.5mm rigid tape. To be honest you can use hypafix, micropore or any other narrow tape.

How do you.keep the tape from slipping?

Hi!! Thanks for reaching out!! Are you speaking specifically to the technique where you pull the skin away from the nail? If the skin is moist or sweaty the tape may not hold. Also if there is any exudate (fluid or even pus) coming from an infected edge that will also cause the tape to slip. Finally if the tape isn't very good that may result in slipping. So I'd suggest make sure the skin is dry and the tape is of good quality. If that is the case an it is still slipping, you can purchase sprays that make the skin a little stickier (I generally use Opsite spray) to aid you. Good luck!!
