I always wondered why did Timothy Hutton's career did not go the same as Cruise and Penn's. He had a huge start then fluttered out.
@ellenjohnson9808

I think it's because of just what you said, at a young age he was a major player, in 1980 his first movie he wanted Oscar, Tom Cruise has the money now but he still hasn't won an Oscar, this was Sean Penn's first movie, Timothy Hutton did more movies than these guys and I look at him as a straight man, Tom Cruise and Sean Penn play the wild guys, but they weren't the top billing name, like The outsiders I didn't even know Tom Cruise was in that movie because it belonged to Ralph macchio The karate kid. Timothy Hutton did a lot of television directing like recently he was in how to get away with murder, times were different,and eventually the money in the industry surely changed, from the old days the 1980s. I guess it's crawl now or call later

@@ellenjohnson9808 Hutton has still stayed in the game though. He always shows up. He's done a lot that I actually never saw. That Haunted Hill show is top notch. I feel like he did have his bigger moments here and there in the 80's, 90's. But PENN and CRUISE just had the right amount of hustle, agents and right all to pick the right projects.

I just thought the same thing. They absolutely would of seen them. Kind of a cheat. Might of still worked if they pulled guns as they come out of hiding from up top, then have more guys run down the ramp and aim down . That way they'ed still get that iconic WIDE SHOT of Hutton with the squad up behind them.

I loved this movie when it came out in 1981. This scene, and really pretty much the entire movie, was about wanting to be heard and taken seriously. Buy all of the "adults" were hell bent on treating them like kids. Of course a lot of the cadets were under 18, but the older ones surely knew what they were doing and they just wanted to have a voice. To me, that was the important message from the film.
@jessetellez3924
@jessetellez3924 11 ай бұрын
The movies 2 main themes in my opinion. 1: Young men wanting to be heard, and a need for young men to have structure. 2: The more important theme in my opinion. Without proper instruction, boys will grasp any meanings. It is as the saying goes "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." And though these boys' hearts were in the right place, the fact remains they had this fantasy about being a soldier and warfare being something grand and amazing, when in reality it's horrible. Which brings me to the most important quote in the movie spoken by Ronny Cox as Colonel Kerby. "You're not a soldier, (speaking to the Cadet Major) I'm a soldier. And I have the same career goal as every soldier in the field, staying alive. But you're a death lover. And I know the species. Some idot sold you on the fantasy that dying for a great cause is so romantic. Well that's the worst kind of BS there is. Being dead is only one thing, bad."

In a world preoccupied with all things "Special"; such as special forces, one tends to forget the 'lesser' units... militias, reserves, guards. I was teased and goaded and labelled a "weekend warrior", "Saturday soldier", etc., being a reservist. One old guy (the janitor) at our armoury witnessed this and told me later that he had been one of those on the beaches at Dunkirk and that had it not been for the actions of the local defences; i.e. civilian residents, farmers, police, etc., they'd have all been wiped out by the Germans. The "Special" resides in the character and attitude of the soldier, accolades or no.

This is the most pivotal scene in the Movie Taps💂, when it got serious, along with the scene where General Bates (George C. Scott) accidentally shoots and kills that town civilian kid because that other punk kid jumped on his back and reached for his sidearm!🔫 This whole situation could have been diffused if the General would have been allowed to address the Cadets and ordered them to stand down! Major Moreland's( Timothy Hutton) Character's heart was in the right place, but his tactics were misplaced! All that Energy, Patriotism🇺🇸, Youth and Potential would have served better if they channeled it legally, in a Court of Law🏛 or Politically🇺🇸 with Media and Public support for their cause!✊! Aggression👊 wins fights, not Anger😠! Still it was an exceptional Film🎥 which demonstrated the power and influence of Leadership, Devotion, Loyalty and Patriotism!🇺🇸 It also showcased some budding young talent, Timothy Hutton ( Academy Award winner🏅) Tom Cruise, Senn Penn, as well as older established talent George C. Scott ( Academy Award winner🏅)!
