Even though these were classic bumpers that lasted well through the rest of the 80s, I still missed the older ones that I grew up with, but it is interesting to see the transition to just "Channel 11", keeping the "11 Alive" moniker for just one more year.

just watched more of the videos... the Crazy Eddie's thing... I didn't know that was a real thing until recently, but I had one of those awesome tee shirts which I found at a Dollar Store when I was about 14. I wore it all the time!! I wonder if I still have it. Also, the Nestle ad... what the??? I always felt uncomfortable when that aired while my parents were in the room with me. Now that I hear 1:38 again, I wonder if instead of TMBG, it's Devo, or at least Mark Mothersbaugh. He would!! :)
@75aces975 жыл бұрын
Yep. It was real. Crazy Eddie Antar ended up fleeing the country with money socked away in a Swiss account when the store went under.

Ah, good old Jerry "Crazy Eddie" Carroll at 2:28...the "Sweet Dreams" campaign proved once and for all that you could sell the "wrapper" more than the chocolate itself...Unilever eventually bought out J.H. Filbert's interest in "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter"; they market it today.

Hello! This is a longship but does anyone remember a commercial promo for Saturday morning cartoons on WPIX that had the Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News as its theme? I have been trying to find that FOREVER
@75aces973 жыл бұрын
I remember it, but don't know of any video available for it. It was for their weekday cartoon lineup, including Heathcliff, probably GI Joe. If I had to guess I'd say it was from 1986 or 87. It would be an interesting artifact to show people how much effort some independent stations put into some of their promos. Going by available videos, not many people appeared to tape weekday afternoon episodes of Voltron, et al.

Can anyone help me think of some movies they played on Channel 11 in the 80's and 90's..Like someone wrote Tales from the Darkside and other Channel 11 movies they loved to play like Superman, Jaws, Batteries not included, The Great Outdoors, Heathers, Masters of the Universe, The Gate, Night of the Creeps..hahhaa yeaa I remember alot I guess, but I still wanna hear what anyone can think of.
@75aces973 жыл бұрын
They played a lot of Chuck Norris, Charles Bronson and other Cannon movies in those days. I wonder if they bought a bundle. A lot of Woody Allen films. They played the Planet of the Apes movies (although rarely the original one), Godzilla movies, Dirty Harry movies, Miracle on 34th, March of the Wooden Soldiers during the holiday. Caddyshack, Animal House, Blues Brothers, Marathon Man, 16 Candles, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the Sting. Yes, they did air Superman once it got past the age where the networks stopped airing it as a movie of the week. Movies like that were a special occasion thing they played during sweeps months, I guess. They had a syndicated feature called "Universal Feature Debut" for some films like Breakfast Club, Amadeus, Mass Appeal, where they went straight to indy stations like WPIX instead of the major networks. Others I can remember: Slap Shot, Ragtime, Cotton Club, Apocalypse Now, Altered States, Flash Gordon. Basically they played a lot of movies I liked. Also a lot of crap, but I choose to remember the good ones. 😁
