Tara Brach: The Path of Spiritual Surrender, Part 1 [2019-07-10]
Cultivating a surrendering presence allows us to release the identity of a small, separate self, and open to the truth and fullness of who we are. These two talks explore misunderstandings about surrender (such as the fear that we will become passive or condone injustice) and the practices that create the grounds for surrender, emotional healing, transformational activism and spiritual freedom.

I'm... so grateful. Tears.. I feel your depth of awareness, that you are a conscious being among us, like a "sage"/guru(real one's, not the superficial "new" stuff") and you really bring me the .. beauty of experience that Adyashanti, Mooji, Sadghuru and many more "alike". And we are all that, in essence. So glad I found you. Wonderful being.

Tara, thank you again for your teachings. I was watching a ted talk where the speaker began describing RAIN, but he gave credit to someone else. I found myself so mad and protective of you and your ideas and teachings. Credit should be given to you. Then I wondered what your reaction is when you see people describe your teachings without giving due credit. I assumed you take it as practice to let go, to not grasp, to not get caught in the right/wrong. Forever thank you for you and your beautiful soul.

Thank you for this, Tara and team. I’ve struggled with the word “surrender” for years, especially since it’s one of the translations of the word “Islam”, the tradition I grew up in. Your talk reminds me of something I wrote years ago, as I tried to unpack my feelings around that word, trying to work with how counterintuitive “surrender” can be. I’m still working on it all, but here’s what I wrote: medium.com/@shrzjnju/surrender-bb8ce1b22ca6

@@dukebanerjee4710 that is the idolatry of Buddhism's no-self: since God is the Creator of the no-self, why worship Him, when we can worship our no-selves?
@dukebanerjee4710
@dukebanerjee4710 4 жыл бұрын
@@toddmartin9966 Huh? The title of this video is *spiritual surrender*. You have to let go of the idea of the self, and you can't worship nothing. Worship of the no-self is an oxymoron. Worshipping the Creator of the no-self doesn't even make sense in Buddhism. Buddhism approaches the problem of suffering through radical deconstruction of the self, looking at the reality of the present moment without conditioned thought. What would worshipping a Creator God even accomplish?
@toddmartin9966

@@dukebanerjee4710 The truth, in answer to your last question. God created humans in His own image, to be in an eternal relationship with Him of love, blessing, and worship. Worship of the self is idolatry, replacing the true subject of worship with worship of one's self. This leads to God's judgment, because He is holy, righteous, and just. Idolatry and self-worship is the foundation for this condemnation, because it asserts that God doesn't exist and is not worthy of our worship. In this sense, we seek to replace Him, deny Him, and to rule above, without, or over Him by worshipping ourselves. This is the ultimate rebellion. God reveals Himself to us by His creation, so that all are without excuse. He has declared his power, majesty, and Godhead by what He has created. We deny Him because we are, by nature, creatures of disobedience. We do this consciously because we are unrighteous, proud, contemptible. The judgement for this rebellion is our spiritual death, separation from God--who is life--in this present life, and continuing to our eternal separation from Him in hell. Because God is just, righteous, and holy, He must judge us to be consistent with His nature. But because His nature is also love, compassion, and mercy, He desires that we turn from our rebellion and return to Him. But the problem of justice must be solved. So God took upon Himself the judgment for our own sin, by sending His own Son, Jesus Christ, to be punished in our place. He came into the world, fully human, yet without sin, so that his punishment was not for His own sin, but for ours. He who knew no sin, became sin, so that we might have the righteousness of God through Him. This substitutionary atonement was prefigured and prophesied in detailed type, picture, and allegory throughout the Hebrew Bible, the Old Testament. This Messiah (savior, anointed one) would be "God with us"; a promised sacrificial "lamb of God"; a descendant of a detailed line of Israelites; born in the city of Bethlehem to a virgin at a specified time; destined to be killed, rejected, scorned, and upon Him our sins would be laid so that God could pour out his wrath and judgement upon Him for our peace--to make reconciliation, restitution, and redemption for us. By His blood, He brought us peace. Upon the cross, just before His death, Jesus cried, "Tetelestai" which means "it is finished," or "paid in full." Three days later, after being buried in the grave of a rich man which was guarded by Roman Centurions (all details that were prophesied of Him in the Old Testament), he arose from the grave with a new, glorified body, demonstrating His claim that He was and is God, and proving that His promise of eternal life was His to give for those who would repent of their sins and put their trust in Him as both savior and Lord, not as one option among many, but as the only Way, Truth, and Life. He showed Himself to named disciples and hundreds of others in Jerusalem, the city where He was killed for forty days, and then ascended to Heaven, where He is now, interceding and calling people to Himself through this message, the gospel.
