After the Spanish conquest of the 1500s, the Tarahumara scattered throughout the Sierra Madre mountains of Northern Mexico. Today, their beautiful culture continues to thrive. However, animistic tribal traditions can often create in them a sense of fear.
This is why missionaries have gone to them, to present the peace of Jesus. Through a process of learning the Tarahumara language and cultural traditions, the missionaries have come to know and love these people.
The Tarahumara have a lack of adequate healthcare and limited food resources, so a Pioneers team composed of Mexican nationals, Germans and Americans serve the Tarahumara with free healthcare and literacy, hoping also to see an indigenous church emerge.
