Andrew, your review and recommendations convinced me to buy the TARANIS QX7S, which arrived yesterday. Surprisingly,the new model has a charging port on the bottom right, just below the rotary dial. Looks like a nice piece of kit. Thanks for the instructional videos......brilliant.

Seriously good radio and system. The addition of a charging port lifts it to the next level.

I'm amazed Spektrum haven't got a product in this market! The X-Lite looks like a real winner, especially for glider flying. Thinking of going this direction for my dlg. But I have a lot to learn about OpenTX. Time to watch some KZbin videos!

nice radio, maybe more focused on minidrones
@jacktheaviator49385 жыл бұрын
I was VERY skeptical of the "game console" design until i actually tried it. Now the X-Lite with an R9 lite module has become my go to for simpler models, anything that doesn't have a flight controller in my fleet is more often than not bound to it. If a model has a lot of bells and whistles, I still reach for the Horus, and this might sound crazy but I use a modified Flysky i6S with EZUHF for my SUPER long range stuff. It might be a cheap radio, but I like the form factor, and the EZUHF does all the real work, the i6S just outputs the PPM signal. But for a grab and go 4-6 channel flying session, the X-lite is dynamite
@AndrewNewton5 жыл бұрын
Yes it does feel great to use. Perfect for slopers at the beach.
@jacktheaviator49385 жыл бұрын
Sadly, I live in Ohio, 1 million miles from salt water, so the beach isn't on my list of available flying spots. But I love using it for thermal surfing with my Phoenix, or my ASW28. It is really nice having a very light intuitive radio so I can focus on the bird.

Is the range good enough for planes? Especially long range?

I have heard that the power is less with the XLite so it's not a long range radio as it comes, but you can add long range modules.

Hi Andrew, I have one coming from BG as a Christmas Present from my wife, though she doesn't know it yet, my question is :- does it bind to most Taranis receivers or do I need special ones, I am upgrading from a FlySky T6
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
Your wife has good taste, even if she is not aware of it. Any 2.4GHz ACCST protocol receivers will work. I prefer the FrSKY X series which allow easy telemetry setup and have great range.

Hello Andrew, I recently bought x lite transmitter & I am currently confused as to which receiver to buy. What do you suggest.. I only fly fixed wing airplanes
@AndrewNewton5 жыл бұрын
X series receivers are my favourite for the easy telemetry module connection. But any ACCST protocol receiver will work. I like X4R for flying wings, X6R for normal planes or X8R for planes with flaps or landing gear etc.

Nice radio shame about the battery format. 18500's are an odd choice and are not that common anymore even in the vaping world. They also have a pretty low capacity. 18650 would have been a better choice and at only 15mm longer wouldn't have affected the size of the radio too much
@AndrewNewton6 жыл бұрын
Yes odd decision.
@saleplains6 жыл бұрын
perhaps a modification to the transmitter is possible
@d1o2n46 жыл бұрын
garyrobinson312 there’s a mod out there were you can 3D print new battery covers that allow an 18650 battery to fit. What it then does is make it look more like the dark night controller which looks nasty. I see why they didn’t go the easier more standard battery. I have this controller and love it. Not being able to USB charge sucks though. That’s my main complaint.
