Lovato Lover So incredibly cruel. They have no hearts. can’t imagine how hurt Tara must have been. I would have been wrecked if it had been me. I have so much admiration for her after seeing how she handled this. I’m glad she cleared it up. What she said at the end, I have a feeling she was picked to go through this awful experience before she was born. She was meant to save other people from being victims of these shows. It’s not a coincidence that she’s a fantastic vocal coach and she learned all their bad tricks that she could pass on to her students. Only way it makes sense that someone as nice as Tara would be made the villain. I thought her performance was courageous. Most people are too afraid to give it their all.

I’ve had this happen at my job. I know it’s not filmed, but people will ignore the good that you do or only know a little bit about you and create a narrative in their head. They treat you poorly and then let your responses be the problem. It’s confirmation bias at its finest and it’s so hard to escape when you are being treated terribly. At my next job, the exact opposite narrative was pushed. I woke up to the fact that it was impossible that I was both. So I don’t take what people say as seriously anymore.

I'm also a victim of a bad edit. I was on American Idol in 2016 and I couldn't believe how different the show was compared to what I grew up watching since I was 7 years old. I was just a clueless high schooler and had no idea what I was getting into. After I found out I was gonna be on the show a producer called me up and told me to sing a Kelly Clarkson song that I thought I couldn't sing but I figured I should do what they ask since that's a huge part of being in the music industry. So that's what I did and to be honest my audition wasn't bad, I just got a little carried away at the end but unfortunately that's the only part of my audition that was aired so to America it looked like I was a really terrible singer. Also I have one of those high guy male voices so the producers probably also saw that as an opportunity to get some laughs out of people. Harry Connick Jr. was one of the judges that year and he inspires me so much with his talent and he told me "I had a gift to be able to sing that high" but then like what happened to Tara, that comment was cut and pasted onto someone else's audition who actually made it to Hollywood. When I saw it air on TV I was crushed more than I ever have been and I'm still not 100% over it, but I'm about to complete my coursework at Berklee College of Music in a few months as a Music Therapy major on a scholarship so I know I can't really be that bad as the show made me out to be haha.

I auditioned for X-Factor UK. It's nothing like you see on TV. They sit you in a dingy room, chairs in a circle, bunch of contestants. You take turns getting asked questions on a makeshift set, which is where they get all the emotional stuff they'll edit and slice into the actual show if you're a contestant. You sing in front of the showrunner and producers, if they like you and they have enough material (presumably for a storyline or something for audiences to cling to) then they'll let you perform in front of the judges, which on the show, appears as your first audition. Some will even get through if they play up a character but aren't particularly talented at singing, and these are the people who you see getting rejected by the judges. Most of the stand-offs between the 'judges' are completely staged. It's rare that they're real. Also if a contestant isn't well or can't perform as they did in the pre-audition, this is where they get all the upset/disappointment footage. All the people they show lined outside the 'auditions' are people that have passed the pre-audition and family/friends if applicable. None of them are there auditioning for the first time (which is why they can rope in so many people). As for me, I passed the singing side of it (although admittedly I wouldn't have said I was the best there), but didn't get the go ahead to perform in front of the judges. I can only speculate that I failed the questioning. No interesting back story, pretty boring blank page, not much of an actor, introverted. Told them this when they asked. They never tell you why you don't get approved. So, yeah. If you're thinking about applying for these reality singing competitions... It's all smoke and mirrors. Go in with a cynical mind, and learn how to play by their rules to get ahead. You have to be a talented singer to make it far, autotuning and sound editing can only do so much, but they're really also looking for good TV. Dial up the energy, make yourself appear endearing. Be relatable to an audience, try to emotionally connect with them, make them WANT you to win to the best of your ability. This drives up call votes and show ratings, this is your leverage, this is what makes the producers want to keep you around. Know that they are watching and listening 99% of the time, so don't do/say anything that can be used out of context against you. None of that is easy to do, but if you start thinking of it like a game, then you're already ahead.

@Blackjax1374 жыл бұрын
@@srvini7357 2009. Just over 10 years ago now. They may have slightly changed the process in the last few years. I remember some controversy about the UK X-Factor allowing bad acts through pre-auditions just to be ridiculed on TV, so you see an awful lot less of that these days. I was in a group of 9 or so in the pre-auditions, there may have been other groups that day. And as I said, while I don't think I was the best of my group even, I wasn't the worst. Someone got through that, on singing ability, shouldn't have. That caused a bit of upset and puzzled looks, there was a girl there that I'd've considered the best out of all of us and even she didn't get through. I can only assume that the questioning side of the pre-audition plays a much bigger part than you'd might think. It shouldn't be all that dissimilar. I believe they now ask for you to send in a video of you singing as part of your application, which will determine whether or not you're invited to a pre-audition. That wasn't a thing back then. So it may even be harder, and lend itself more towards semi-professional singers with recording/editing equipment on hand.

I auditioned for a show that never made it past pre production and I remember the contract saying they could edit the footage to show me in any light. It’s sad. Most reality show contracts are like that. The producers seriously don’t understand the repercussions that has on peoples lives.

Tara, at 7:46 when Simon says to you, "When you watch that back you're going to see that you showed us a little bit more than you expected", I took that to mean that you may have accidentally flashed them or showed more skin than you were wanting to, like when you sat down at the end or kneeled during the song. You said you didn't know what he meant by that, so I'm just letting you know what I took it as.

Last month I met and spent time with a 1st season contestant from "The Four". She ended up beating Zhavia. The stories she shared with me were horrific and JUST LIKE THE THINGS YOU SAID. I couldn't believe the things they did to her and the other contestants. I felt bad for having believed her to be this person they portrayed on the show. So I TOTALLY BELIEVE YOU. it's BS what they do and it's cruel it needs to be stopped and we need to stop believing these shows. SO sorry for how heart wrenching and shocking this must have been at the time. Thank you for ALL you so freely share with us❤❤❤

Hey Tara, I don’t have more than basic knowledge of music but I’m gifted by realizing great things almost in everything (almost!) kind of unconsciously (just don’t know how!!). So, from the first day that I’ve seen your reacting videos, I knew that you are the one as a coach. You are the best among all I’ve seen since 5 years ago. I just wanted to say Thank you and no one should be on Dimash documentary but you. No one as a coach even realize half of technical tips that you mentioned. He is super talented but also very wise and technically knowledgeable by choosing you. Thanks for being such a talented nice professional coach. Be safe and sound.

You made me cry with you at the end Tara, bless your heart. I’ve been on TV here in the U.K, on a very popular daytime TV show actually (I’ll refrain from saying which one, if you don’t mind), & oh boy, did my 19 year old self learn so much after that experience. The day it was aired, I cringed my way through it, thought nothing more of it & went out that evening for a quiet drink with a friend - oh my goodness. Everyone stared, pointed, laughed, made snide remarks. It killed my confidence. I’m 33 now & I still remember it like it was yesterday. It makes me sad thinking others, especially our younger generation, believe everything they see when they watch TV. I don’t think people truly realise just how much slicing / dicing / editing goes on, it’s completely insane. Thank you for sharing your experience, & more importantly, shedding light on these shows. I feel it’s really important to show the other side of TV. And for the record.. I thought your singing rocked! You’ve got the most stunning voice! Much love x

I’m so so sorry you went through that. We as an audience are responsible because we now know that reality shows edit to manipulate and we don’t speak up. I can’t imagine how hurt you must have been. Especially at a young age where all of us have our insecurities. You didn’t deserve that and I’m sorry you had to go through that. Although I’m sure the experience made you even stronger and more sensitive. I hope you’ve healed from it. Wish you all the luck going forward.

Hi Tara! I have never commented before, but I want to thank you for sharing this. I am a performer who has had some amazing experiences and some not so amazing experiences, but very little experience in the TV world. That was very eye opening to hear about how edits are used to “villainize” certain individuals. I also LOVE that you are, in real life, the humble and kind person, you perceive to be, as you go have all the talent abilities and physical qualities to be a “diva.” I just recently met Voctave during the holiday season and was so warmed that they are just as nice. It makes me so happy to see that people I look up to in the industry are so genuine and loving! Happy new year! I hope to meet you one day!

This is unbelievable! At first I was so sceptical of watching your videos because I remembered you from the show and I'd bought the character they sold me. But after watching the first video I realized that you are so completely different, and it breaks my heart because I'm sure you got through it because you're confident, talented and kind, but I wonder how badly it could hurt a little insecure teenage girl if they did the same to her. How it could permanently scar them. I salute you for being so honest and real through all of this.

Thank you for doing this video, Tara. Mad respect for you! You made me wish that Dimash had you to talk to before he went on the abomination of The World's Best show. American talent shows are designed to destroy art, and to deal mortal blows to the spirits of young artists. I don't know if it's as bad as this in other countries, but thank the gods that there's someone like you who can steer young American talents on a safe course. I'm so sad this happened to you, but so glad you emerged victorious.

Love this so much Tara. ❤️ It's so interesting to hear you talk about behind the scenes. I figured shows like this are often edited to make it look like people are bitchy about each other and peoples' reactions & comments aren't always in the right context but to hear you actually say it is still pretty shocking. Unfortunately, that's why I don't watch them anymore...It makes me wonder just how much the results are fixed too. 😒 (Maybe I'm just too sceptical though, lol).

I love music but am not a singer. But I believe the hopes for Fame can bring out the worst in some people, especially in those less talented than their surrounding competitors. The fact that a hidden Mic did not capture anything they could use against you speaks volumes about your talent and confidence, and who you really are. Your Students, in Studio or however you reach them (KZbin for me) are so Blessed to have you as their Mentor and even Spiritual Guide. Thank you, Tara. The Mics are EVERYWHERE, AND ALWAYS HOT!
