Edit: Giveaway winners have been picked: KZbin: Drumatix Charlie Moody Mykola Leonovych Insta: Ecstatic Yantra Twitter: Samspo As David Toop describes in his seminal work on Ambient Music, Ocean of Sound, the Gamelan played a huge role in inspiring composers like Debussy as well as the development of ambient music. The Pitchfork article below also talks about its influence on IDM artists like Autechre and Plaid, as well as the likes of Bjork. Here I am using the app Gamelan Gender played into Tardigrain Granular - Vid here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJy8f3-HiZqiqqs I then recorded a short performance on Tardigrain and loaded in Audiostretch where I did live timestretching to further manipulate the sound in some deliciously weird directions. The final part of the video is the screen recording of that performance manipulated visually in Glitch Studio. The hypnotic vibe of this short piece, as well as the extreme loud-soft dynamics, is very much in keeping with the traditional ability of gamelan performance to engender trance-like states. Giveaway: There is a free version of Gamelan Gender for iOS called Gamelan Gender Lite. It's limitation is: can't save changes, fewer included songs, no support for Inter-App Audio/Audiobus. An IAP can unlock those. Here I am offering 5 copies of the full app that comes out of the box without any of those limitations. There will be 3 winners for KZbin, 1 for Insta, 1 for Twitter. To win here on YT, simply a) subscribe to my channel and , if you like my vids, consider selecting 'all' when the notification bell pops up if you haven't already, b) give this vid a thumbs up 👍 and c) write a comment, any comment. Details of how to win on Insta and Twitter can be found at instagram.com/gavinskistutorials and twitter.com/gavinski_s?s=09 Donations, whether small or large, are very greatly appreciated . A lot of time and work goes into this channel and it pays a tiny amount. I’m very grateful to the few good people who actually donate and will certainly write to thank you in person. 🙏 My Bitcoin address: bc1q2fuky36qjycd5hum0ey6tgzgm0wjs9w63qgzl3 My PayPal paypal.me/GavinskisTutorials?locale.x=en_US Please note that Gamelan Gender is not an AUv3, and in AUM, if you want to route midi to it you have to do so using the routing matrix, as it lacks the hamburger menu to the left that most IAA apps would have. Interesting article: pitchfork.com/thepitch/298-gamelan-electronic-musics-unexpected-indonesian-influence/ Quote: “Orbital records or Autechre, there’s definitely an incredible amount of gamelan influence in that-whether they’re aware or not,” Evan Ziporyn, music professor at MIT and founder of the Gamelan Galak Tika ensemble in Boston told me over the phone. “It’s music that has a narrative, but not a linear narrative. Things are going to cycle, there are going to be patterns.” Full version app-store link and description: apps.apple.com/app/gamelan-gender/id806784043 iOS implementation of Balinese Gamelan Gender Wayang, tunable and now with Inter-App Audio and Audiobus support! Yes, time-stretching combined with the fact the audio os basically also being time-stretched at times in Tardigrain makes for some suoerb textures and tones

Very inspiring. I'm interested in Gamelan music since the german composer Eberhard Schoener made some cross over projects with the Bali Agung ensemble in the late 70s. Of course, what he did was completely different but I instantly felt the vibe of the indonesian Gendèr. I'd love to win a copy of Gamelan Gender.

I’m loading gender as audiobus 3 input and made output to AUM. AUM shows gender as source when I use Audiobus as track source. Let’s me play loaded sequence or strike notes, hearing them in connected headphones. However not getting audio passed through to AUM. It does not record.
@GavinskisTutorials2 жыл бұрын
I don’t really use Audiobus - maybe ask on the Audiobus Forum?
@bobphillips23412 жыл бұрын
@@GavinskisTutorials figured it out. Gender was loaded stand-alone before I started audiobus. I shut them all down. Loaded audiobus3. Set AUM as output. Then loaded gender as audiobus 3 input. Gender shows up as AUM channel. Playing gender demo recording via audiobus widget now shows audio on AUM channel meter. Enabling recording on gender AUM channel, record via AUM master record red button. Check AUM recordings via a ‘file’ channel load recorded audio file… It plays!! Gender MAY be used in AUM via audiobus!

Not sure how long it's been around. Interesting tidbit from the dev: The basic idea of this app lays way back in ~1995, written in GFA Basic on Atari, generating the sounds with a GM-module sending the detuned midi commands to a free midi channel...
