If you're curious about the profit on this property, he put $173,800 into it, and it apparently sold for $1,314,900, providing a profit of $241,100 (thanks Wikipedia)

Why pay the designer $12,000 for choosing tile, chandeliers, and wallpaper??!! Tarek has enough experience to know what looks good. That seemed like a waste of money considering he was "trying to watch costs". 🙄 Who leaves their home like that?!?! What a total disaster! Even if I only had a day or two to move out, it wouldn't be left like that! It's perfection now, both inside and out. That backyard was totally transformed into a mini oasis.

One of the best makeovers. That fireplace tile is amazing. All this high design, and they left that faux colonial front entry door. I would have spent 4k on a really nice modern door.

I agree and would LOVE that too, BUT it would be illegal, "Invasion of Privacy". The house with all the clothes looking like they just Left the house with the clothes on their backs, I'm thinking people that ALL went to Jail OR had to leave quickly for the Witness Program, they are in hiding FOR the FBI. OR maybe the family was in a Bad Car Accident and the whole family got killed, whatever.

This house is kinda bizarre... Normally even a eviction or foreclosure, the clothes and alot of the personal items would be gone. This house looks like the people just walked out with their wallets😳. Could be a death, divorce, jail, or elderly person moving to a nursing home.

@@janephillips3627 I'm not suggesting invade people's privacy and stalk whoever has abandoned these homes LOL With their permission, it could actually provide money to those people who have left for whatever reason. I just think it would be an interesting show to know the backstories. The furniture is in reasonable condition and I noticed some rather interesting vases/urns on the fireplace mantel, plus the indoor plants look alive. Maybe in this case the owners are still around somewhere and will come and grab what's salvageable after it's sold. But I'm thinking not because when they start the demolition I can still see a live pot plant in the background.

@@JF-rz3rh I'm thinking they were probably just an ordinary, lovely couple (tried to make a beautiful home together, nice furniture, plants, vases, flowers) but one or both of them got hooked on drugs and their lives started to unravel.... then possibly death, divorce, jail, etc.

@@janephillips3627 You know, flippers are in it for the money. All power to them. They're making a living for themselves and their family. I'm thinking, wouldn't it be nice if a TV show actually helped those people who maybe had an ordinary, good life, once upon a time, and things went wrong. It might actually teach other people how NOT to let that happen. Or maybe I'm just a sticky-beak who wants to know the ins and outs of everyone's lives LOL

Some people here in the comments saying -- good job -- to Tarek, but it´s all done by the HGTV folks - even that designer is a plant, it has all been decided a lot earlier for each episode by HGTV exclusive contractors in the area. Most shows on HGTV have major fake zones - House Hunters don´t hunt for any houses, since the participants already put an offer on a house and are probably on escrow. Love or List it - same thing, the people hiring Hillary and David already made their decision, in some episodes the new house is already bought, and in other cases, two endings are taped, depending on the list of episodes on that day - they want some sort of even result. Then shows like this one and so many others, the hosts are just for show. In this show, Tarek does do some things for the purchasing of the house, but the contractors´ management and design - all done by HGTV teams. Maybe those teams give Christina some options to appear in front of the cameras as making decisions, but it´s all just for show. Regardless, Tarek and Christina did have some chemistry in the first seasons, then I think the pressure of the show plus Tarek´s cancer put too much stress on the couple... Tarek seems to have an alpha male personality and Christina can´t figure out what she wants - after Tarek, she got married to some English guy and got divorced a few months later, like what a mess... The houses are beautiful - but again, not sure how much of what we see is staging, how much is for real, so... HGTV always finds a way to fake it...

I love to get reno ideas from Tarek and Christina. But no matter how well they renovate a house, I would NEVER want to live in So-Cal. The houses that they're paying a quarter million to a couple of million in places like Buena Park and Anaheim (for instance) would cost maybe $130 thousand here in the Midwest. Other than near perfect weather, Southern California has nothing going for it. It's incredibly crowded, it takes forever to drive anywhere, the summers are long, hot and dry (hence all the brush fires), you have to feel guilty for watering your lawn and California has some of the stupidest laws on the books. I can see why people are fleeing by the thousands daily!
