People are facing a tough retirement. and it's even harder for workers to save due to low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire in.

The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

It's often true that people underestimate the importance of financial advisors until they feel the negative effects of emotional decision-making. I remember a few summers ago, after a tough divorce, when I needed a boost for my struggling business. I researched and found a licensed advisor who diligently helped grow my reserves despite inflation. Consequently, my reserves increased from $275k to around $750k.

I’m 72 and been retired 10 years. The first 5 were spent caring for ill family members, the next 4 finding, buying and moving with the help of 2 friends into a home in another state. So now I’m finally able to breathe, look around me and rest. Unfortunately my once comfortable retirement income (60% social security) has now been eroded by inflation & the corollary costs of home ownership. I’m just glad my loved ones didn’t live to see what happened to the world.

Because so many people overpaid for homes even while loan rates were low, I believe there will be a housing catastrophe because these people are in debt. If housing costs continue to drop and, for whatever reason, they can no longer afford the property and it goes into foreclosure, they have no equity since, even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I believe that many individuals will experience this, especially given the impending mass layoffs and rapidly rising living expenses.

I’d much rather those 10s of thousands of dollars I pay into it a year to invest on my own instead of supporting people who decided not to prepare for their own retirement or abuse the system. I also don’t wanna pay for people who I don’t know and couldn’t care less about that have health issues or disabilities because they are not my problem and I’m not a socialist commie.

What’s galling about SocSec is that we had NO SAY in it. They’ve been taking our money forever. We could have done something with it. In my case, I put in 43 years of contributions, and it’s a gamble whether I will live long enough to get even a portion of it back. And of course, there’s not a cent of it for my kids to inherit. And some people out there say it’s an “entitlement.” No no no. It’s a reimbursement, too little, too late.

@@garrettpatten6312 that is a terrible way to save it because it is a system that requires people paying in. If you lower the population, you inherently lower the money coming in. the only way to save it is to remove it from being able to be touched by congress for anything outside of it's intended purpose. It also needs to be kept entirely away from anyone who did not pay into it.

All of our cars are paid off. We still live comfortably. What I mean when I said we felt poor is we have to adjust a lot to inflation, higher taxes and higher cost of living. We have to be more mindful when we plan vacation. We didn’t have to in the past. All in all, six figures income nowadays is no longer rich. We consider ourselves middle class like everyone else in the country who feel robbed by our own government through high taxes. We work hard and paid more taxes than what our children get paid annual salary. It feels wrong.

I manage to pay utilities, taxes, insurance, gasoline and car upkeep, etc by careful budgeting. My one luxury is $45 a month Xfinity prepaid internet, reading books and crossword puzzles. As far as food I watch the sales, clearance racks for dented cans and close outs. Eating twice a day with no soda or junk food. I cook planned overs and make meals stretch. My current debt load is $10K which makes me nuts but compared to others is very good. As it is I consider myself blessed. Love to listen to your videos ♥️

While SS pays for pensions that people paid into, there are hundreds of thousands of people that never paid into SS that get money. If I pay into SS, why is my ex spouse possibly eligible for any of that money? Why are children eligible for more than I ever paid into the program if I die? Why are people with disabilities that never paid into SS receiving money? These are the payouts that need to stop immediately and fund them from another source instead of from money people paid who worked for years to have the money in retirement.

Even if I was divorced, my then-would-be-X husband would without question know I’d have a right to security in old age for the decades of raising children and losing my earning power. Now, that said, I understand your sentiment. I have a neighbor who married as a 2nd wife and never had children, and she gets the max social security of her X she was married to only later on in her life. That said, I love this neighbor and am happy she gets the max social security as she’s still struggling to get by.

The politicians, in opening up SSecuity to people under 65 with ssi, foreigners who never paid into the system, and raiding the 'Trust fund' caused the fund to be depleted much earlier. The biggest problem was not converting the program to an IRA like system for at least part of the money so people could at least be sure that some of their money would be under their control. Such a program would have to keep anyone from drawing on the money before retirement (or death).

If you are losing your job, try to keep it. But if you can’t, there could be some good opportunities coming soon. My husbands work, a major cell phone company, recently offered all of his department, hundreds of people, corporate high paying jobs, a nice package to quit. Too many people took the package and now they are shuffling people around to cover the losses. His company had sent home workers back to the office part time, and told them all that if you don’t want to go back to the office full time, you should take that package. So be a worker willing to work in the office, and keep your eyes and ears open. Too many people are saying they will quit their jobs if they are forced back to the office. And many of those people will do it while not realizing they can’t get another job working from home. Sometimes in life things happen to us that seem scary, but turn out to be the best thing for us.

I would be happy to tell you my situation at 59, wife 58. I seen this coming by watching videos like this. Mostly Lynette Zang 2015 and on. Even before that we were savers. Own outright 2 homes, 1 is rental (our first home) She was just laid off by Microsoft after buyout of her company. Now will do property management. Myself as an electrician. And entrepreneur invented product. I do know, had ww both just did regular jobs, didn't educate further didn't invest in gold and silver, ww would be broke like so many of our friends

I used to always shop at Target even with their prices slightly higher than some stores…but the reality is it’s just getting too expensive and I’ve only been purchasing staples/essentials lately from bulk stores (Sams/costco).They don’t even offer the same deals that were once offered to customers who frequented their store.

I make considerably more than three years ago, less debt, and more savings. However, I just turned 30 and I am renting my house with no debt and no car payment. I also have no children. As a woman there are many pressures to have started a family by now. Sometimes I feel like the only way to have a family in your 20’s is by going into debt, or relying on the government or family. Most of my friends who have kids have been blessed with wealthy parents buying them cars and houses. The other portion of people I grew up with have 3-4 kids and use government assistance. I feel like I am doing the right thing and working hard. Wishing there was support and equal opportunity for the middle class, but the wealth gap keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Social security needs to take off the income cap completely! Increase payroll withdrawals, and increase the age to 65 from 62 as the minimum age. Don't raise FRA, keep that almost everyone retires at 62, so raise it to 65.

Great video today! 3rd generation in construction. Watched all before me in family work consistently for 30 to 40 yrs and afford here on one income at prevailing rate. Now I see everyday for the last 2 years that here 139000 is a min for a median home. Prev rate is 40 thousand short. Sold for absurd profit in July , relocating 5 hrs away at a 80% annual tax savings with 20 times the property. Thank you for your continued exposure of the hand that's about to be delt to ALL that haven't been paying attention this year.

Would car dealerships be better off if they got rid of commissions and honestly helped the customers? Would we be better off without realtors. When my girlfriend was a realtor she would go nuts about realtors showing off Rolls-Royces and dressing and looking like strippers. She used to say no wonder everyone hates us and thinks we're scammers.

The national government for the REPUBLIC was DISSOLVED in 1923 when the Treasury was closed. The Federal Reserve is a private trust who siphons the wealth of the indigenous people of the planet, which also counterfeits United States of America greenbacks. 28 United States Code 3002 subchapter (15) “the United States means a federal corporation.” Uniform Commercial Code 9-307 ‘LOCATION OF DEBTOR’ subchapter (h) “the United States is in Washington, D.C.” The united States of America and the United States are two separate jurisdictions. Fun fact, if you correctly submit a records request to the United States Customs and Immigration Service asking for proof of being a United States Citizen aka a federal employee, they’ll send you a response telling you “WE ARE UNABLE TO LOCATE ANY RECORDS IN OUR SYSTEM!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The Internal Revenue Code 601.602 clearly states income taxes are on a VOLUNTARY BASIS. The opposite of MANDATORY.

Property taxes in Florida have gone through the roof as well. Your petition says one must be a local resident of the county. Though it appears property taxes may be illegal from a federal/constitutional standpoint. Does your petition stand for the entire country as well?

Being somewhat facetious here… does Mitch really think that all the administrations since the 1930s didn’t discuss his exact talking points? Use any of the math he spoke of? Didn’t weigh options and outcomes? ……condescending much. I don’t like when people talk like that and there’s no outside-the-box proposal or grand plan that they’re saying should’ve happened. Clearly initiatives and priorities have changed throughout the past almost 100 years, I’m sure all administration thought as far forward as they could or were just as corrupt and selfish as politicians are now.
