It's not meant to be an insult, just a statement. It's incredibly common for chinese people to be blunt because everyone knows it's usually not in bad spirit, and people don't see fat as bad of a thing as it is in the US in the first place - prob because many fat people in China don't get fat from just eating junk food

@@xsanez_Nah, being fat is still seen as a negative in China. But it is also the truth. The west(especially US)has gotten way too sensitive regarding fat shaming. If someone is dirty, not well dressed, has a bad haircut, you can call them out. But if they are fat, nope, that is body shaming lol. And yeah, China is having obesity issues as well. Fast food is definitely a huge issue especially for the younger generation and it is even worse in major cities due to delivery being much much more prevalent. So people are staying at home all day and just ordering foods and drinks while playing video games
