Well one sounded like a broken record and viewed everything thru the lens of "race" and the other was trying to have a real conversation(Haz). Its about the economic system which is the root cause of most injustices including the race thing... And Tariq's "eskimo and brown skin" theory about brown skin not being because of the sun.. Good grief.. "Eskimos"(which they dont like being called btw) have brown skin because they migrated from Asia which has alot of sun lol.. and white people being a "form of albinism"..? Jesus christ.. I gave up after he said that. Tariq Nasheed comes off borderline in my opinion and his logic is frightening. The point is not that socialism/communism is the magic remedy for such a serious problem as racism, and it’ll be solved from one day to another after socialism will be proclaimed. The point it that without abolishing the social economical injustice that is created by capitalism, and actually is very nature of the capitalist system, we can not even think to get somewhere closer to the solvating this problem. USSR is a really good example of how socialist system can deal with national discord, racism, any type of chauvinism. Were those problems solved at 100%? I don’t think so. But I think the Soviet Union got tremendously close to that. I know this from my own experience, growing up on Soviet military base, where all nations of USSR presented, from all republics of Union.

haz completely threw Cuban comrades and Freedom fighters under the bus, as did Tariq. Many rights have been fought for by our black and indigenous comrades in Cuba and today they have furthered the liberation and justice under communism and allowed for the historical oppression of slavery to be alleviated if not removed. Next time his opponent will drop into discussion question about uyghurs in China, and he will not gonna be able to respond. Even when Haz advocated for Russia he mentioned centuries of multinational and multicultural history of Russia, without distinction of Russian empire and Soviet Union. I don’t think that Russian empire was any close in cruelty to indigenous people as it was British or French colonial powers. Not at all. But the point of the discussion was communism, so we should point out the experience of USSR, that had very distinct approach to the matter than Russian empire had.

Idk about Cuba, but Russians by and large definitely do not have any racial animosity towards black people. Much less do they have systematic racism against anyone upon an ethnic premise. Some have animosity against immigrants in general, sure, and many have animosity against illegal immigration, but in the overwhelming majority of cases this is not premised upon race or ethnicity. @7DMEDIA1 You asking about America or Russia ? Russian civilizational character & universal culture is very welcoming to whoever comes there to put in work and doesn't do crime. Pretty much all you gotta do is learn Russian and you'll be considered a Russian. African, European, Asian, Latino, Turkic, it don't matter. It's a process in which you wouldn't lose your non-Russian particularity , but you would assimilate into the customs of whatever locality you settle in-- many of which are far from being purely 'European Russian'/'Great Russian'. There's no entrenched resentment/discrimination based on exclusion of any ethnicities or races within the Russian socius as a whole. I don't think there's any master-slave power dynamics in Russia that are determined specifically by any racial/ethnic/cultural identity. If you're a citizen of Russia, under the law you are equal to any other citizen, with the same rights as them, and you have the same opportunities to participate in government & enterprise as any other average citizen-- socio-economic class distinctions notwithstanding.

English peasants were different race than english nobles and early bourgeois? How about irish people? Were they different skin color, or the harsh exploitation and oppression of Irish by english was justified by religious matters? How about russian peasants exploited by russian landlords and later by capitalists of russian descent? How about indigenous bourgeoisie of non white communities? Who do they oppress if they are also people of color themselves? Right, people of the same descent. Capitalist system love to incorporate non-white individuals in the ruling class. Haz is right about the Western Christianity vs Eastern Christianity thing. The Eastern Christianity is more about your soul, not your body. Even before the USSR (which always uplifted African and Black people and supported their struggle for liberation), in the Russian Empire, the prison house of peoples, the importance of the soul took priority. If a non-Russian, "non-white" citizen converted to Orthodox Christianity, they were free to marry Orthodox Russians or whoever, however "white", both legally and in common practice. There was no stigma attached to that. The most famous case would be Abram Petrovich Gannibal, the great grandfather of the most famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. Gannibal was given to Peter the Great as a gift with the idea that he would be a slave to the Tsar. Peter didn't play along though. Instead he adopted Gannibal as his godson, gave him the best education possible and promoted him to important military postions. Later Gannibal was given a noble title and a huge estate with serfs. Gannibal married a white woman, and had very black (ten) children with her. His children also received excellent education, as was proper for the nobility, served in high ranks and married white or Russian women/men. Alexander Pushkin himself, being a great grandson, had very distinct black features, and it wasn't a problem when he married literally _the most beautiful Russian noble woman_ of that time, Natalia Goncharova. So this "biological" reason is just more of the Western European natsee nonsense. As a matter of fact, if we study biology, the opposite is true. If your partner is too much like you, your children are more likely to be born sickly. If your partner is distinctively different, your offsprings would be much healthier. So, biologically, we are conditioned to choose people who are different from us, for the better chance at healthy children.

24:11 The blood quantum ideology did not originate in Spain. It is a concept primarily associated with the United States and its policies towards Native American tribes. Blood quantum refers to the practice of defining Native American identity based on the percentage of one's ancestry that is Native American. This method was used by the U.S. government to determine eligibility for certain rights and benefits, as well as membership within tribes. In contrast, Spain's historical approach to issues of ancestry and ethnicity during the colonial period involved concepts like "limpieza de sangre" (purity of blood), which focused on religious and ethnic purity, particularly in relation to Jewish and Muslim ancestry. This concept was used to maintain social and political control, particularly during and after the Reconquista and the Spanish Inquisition. While both concepts involve bloodlines and ancestry, they emerged from different historical contexts and were used for different purposes.

Overall, i think American black nationalists, regardless of their subjective ideals, have a strong & important role to play in the formation of the real American civilization that is currently emerging, for they are positioned to determine a definite composition & existence for the black nation within America. But this discussion does reveal how a lot of their worldview is premised on baseless racial-reductionism and historical revisionism. And this can only be rectified through the application of historical materialism and dialectics. Marxism-Leninism remains the most cohesive and most advanced outlook, and is the only viable path forward.

Agreed. Ironically, they end up taking similar positions to the white supremacists that reduce everything to "race" and genetics, albeit from the other side. I feel like Tariq is right on the verge of a deeper understanding though, especially by the end of the conversation.

☀️ 🇲🇽 🇪🇸 🇺🇸 🦍I beg to differ with Tariq on the part that white supremacy originated in Spain. As Haz mentioned La reconquista was a matter of faith rather than race. One good example that proofs that Spanish expansionism wasn’t rooted in racial supremacy of one people over the other is the reality we see here in Hispano America. Had the Spanish had a mindset of maintaining their “racial purity”, we the mestizo Hispanic people wouldn’t exist, let alone be the vast majority of the population in this part of the world and also the continental mass land with the largest population of catholics in the world. Just a fair criticism here. I would appreciate if people with anglophone education wouldn’t apply the Anglo lenses to understand the cultures of the rest of the world. It wasn’t until relatively recently that Spain started being deemed European due to convenience, before that they were regarded as something different. Even nowadays, a Spanish tío has more in common with a Mexican vato or Colombian parce than a German or a British. Saludos amigos! 👋

@@WETALKINMEDIAHello! If you refer to modern slavery, Portugal and Brazil are not Hispanic. Also, in Brazil it’s more common to see racial segregation than in Hispanic countries in general. A very important thing to point out is that I’m not denying slavery, nor am I saying that Hispanic people didn’t partake in it. What I’m saying is that the idea of the preservation of “ the white race “ applied to every single culture and history around the world is something that raises a lot of eyebrows. Not trying to repeat myself here but, don’t you find it contradictory that Spain, a place where supposedly “ white supremacy” originated also happened to be one of the participants in one of the biggest “ race mixing” events probably never seen in modern history before? I hope you can see where I’m coming from. Saludos!

It is so sad that such an idealistic approach to the problem of racism and white supremacy is so deeply rooted in consciousness of “people of color”. We (communists) have to educate workers of any descent, so we will be able to create a real unity of working class. Only from the point of view of the class struggle it can be properly understood. Not simplified understanding of class struggle and class society in general, that is very complex, but taken as a core starting point.

@VictorTheVan

Yeah thats what Im hearing. Tariq brings up good points, but the foundation of race being a barrier thats so strong that black folks can't do much, leaves a bit of a nihilistic view. He even says at one point that "nothing has worked so far" when there's so much history of black struggle wins through socialism. Hell, the most prominent black revolutionary figures and organizations were socialists. I just have a strong disagreement with his viewpoint of "things sound good in theory" and his idea that white supremacy trumps the power of communism. It's a very abstracted view of not what divides us, but why; so the solutions never sound like their grounded in any material possibility. I support reparations, full stop, but how can we expect something as pivotal as reparations to come from the capitalist class when they arent even willing to uphold mediocre reforms like Affirmative Action. To me, it just feels like pointing out the issues without having solutions.

@ynraider he is a little to eager to put all colorism in the world in the sam western box that started in Spain and ended in nazis. For example while Han people may have issues with colorism, their government birth policies favored minorities. While russians might have some of it, their orthodox and muslim civilization won't create a hitler. Malcom X spoke about Islam well for this reason and Paul Robeson of the USSR. Cuba also might have some but it's not the same quality as what emanates from the western "enlightenment". Basically the western europe racism is the sophisticated kind based on genetic psuedo-science and arose with western Christianity AND capitalism which are both outcomes from "enlightenment "

Highly enlightening regarding historical precedence regarding the origins of race science in Spain with the Reconquista and relation to the Moors. I was hoping the EFF was mentioned, Tariq mentioned that he was an admirer of Malema, uncertain if Haz was aware. Would be interesting if the next conversation revolves around that subject in particular. Tariq had mentioned that there should be a distinctly American version, would be potential deep intersection with the initiatives of Infrared.

4:12 mr. tariq is very in tune. as a black socialist, i thignk the only way to avoid these realities in the theory v execution is that of socialism or communism to succeed on a largescale it has to be a coercive movement. you cant coax ppl into acceptance, you have to tear it down brick by brick. this is the same thing i tell half of my family back in nigeria (born to nigerian dad/black mom), nothing changes until you eliminate & denigrate the elites so thoroughly, they have no choice but to whimper away.
