Notable the compact of Tarkus ... so young! ... I think Keith Emerson would be very proud to see how new generations are adopting their music (excuse me for my bad English) ... Greetings from Santiago, Chile !

This is really one of those great finds. Keith Emerson would be jazzed to hear this, I'm really sure. Probably Lake and Palmer too. Gotta love talent when you see it. And this kid really gets it. Nice.

This was filmed and recorded at one of the Yamaha Electone competitions in Japan. That is a very popular type of synth workstation a lot of families have. If you remember Keith Emerson's Electone GX-1 - it's the modern version of that. Students compete for prizes and other awards. Considering this is a 23 minute progressive masterwork condensed to a 3 and a half minute version the biggest challenge - the condensing.

and to think I was her age when I first heard this in 1971. my parents would never have this in their house. this is a unique piece that will always grab the curiosity of a child. and that cover art it was perfect. yeah them Asians aint dumb.
You need to get together with Kyoko Sugiyama! All you'd need would be a guitarist/singer and you'd remake ELP in total at the ages of ~8 years old. And the world would love you for it. Or at least I would. :-D

This is an interesting point but I feel that this piece is very reminiscent of "Classical" 20th Century Composition. The majority of teachers today prefer this type of repertoire. It is becoming increasingly harder today to find teachers that teach indigenous or traditional music as opposed to anything contemporary. I think the best approach is to make sure students are well rounded in their appreciation for the artistry of musical creation and performance.

@justgivemethetruth10 жыл бұрын
It may be very politically correct to stand up for a little girl, and she does play great, but that is not creativity. No, it doesn't need to be, but there is nothing wrong about commenting at the genesis of a lot of great music comes from Western influences, and Asians are smart enough to know that value. I'd bet one of the reasons they study Emerson is because of his amazing free form looseness in his music. He is awesome in a way a young girl is not .... yet. OK ... so give the guy his due. If I studied for a while I could probably play that work too ... but I doubt I could ever write something like that ... if only!

You got a wrong music teacher, he he. I was blesses with the music teacher who obviously taught me classical in the first place, scales, arpeggios, and etudes, but also in every lesson he'd teach me boogie woogie patterns, I mean, classical training you gotta have, there's no way around that, but why stop there?

Atrux04 research "Rachel Flowers". She's got to be the best keyboardist...better than Keith Emerson and Jon Lord. She started out handicapped (blind) born months premature, had some lessons... Just google "Rachel Flowers Tarkus" and go from there. She's a musical genius. Today's Bach. Just check her out and look at her life. The ultimate inspiration.
