Taron Egerton played Elton John in the biopic "Rocketman." The actor tells Kevin Polowy (@djkevlar) that Tom Hardy was originally cast as Elton, but aged out. He also reveals a special gift he gave to Elton on his birthday.

Taron is eloquent, intelligent, humble, has genuine respect, self aware, authentic, carries himself with grace, his sense of humor is wonderful and obviously is utterly beautiful. I honestly hope that he not only receives an oscar nomination but he deserves to win. Taron is undoubtedly an actor that is unrated. There was no one else that could portray Sit Elton John. The love, admiration and respect he has is abundantly clear.

Kelsey, I saw Taron twice appear at his old school prize giving in Aberystwyth firstly just after he had been cast in the first Kingsman film and then a year later. It was immediately obvious that he had star quality as a person. He was very natural, engaging, humble, funny, articulate, and all the things that you say. I really was taken by how well he would come across in the world of big stars. He tells a good story too. I just hope that although Rocketman is likely to be a career defining film, he is able to develop as an actor in roles that advance his qualities as a serious performer rather than those that might cheapen him, ie too many action movies.

I am 54. But in our young days we were flooded with first abba and Boney m and then Michael Jackson BUT in 1980 John Lennon got assassinated and that made me listen to the Beatles and become a die hard fan of not only them but also CSNY and Elton John . How I wished that George harrisson and Elton would come together to make a super group but that was just wishful thinking . Loved Rocketman .
