I love Cockatoos Maryann. They have character even tho they are naughty. A few years ago we rented a log cabin up in Tooblewong. I built some fed trays for them and fed them sunflower seeds each evening. I watched wistfully about their flying capabilities as they came in. I recall one evening when 110 came in to feed. The next place we were in a family adopted me. Sadly I watched as the eldest slowly passed on our deck. The partner spread there right wing over in a wonderful gesture of love. I gave him a burial in the garden the next day. She flew in a few days later so bereft at her loss and passed away in front of my eyes. I buried her next to him. No doubt they are rejoicing in Cockie heaven screeching away at the top of their lungs. Nature is amazing and seldom seen by the maddening human crowd. But in both experiences I felt blessed by their connection to me. Very bitter sweet.

My 90-year old dad who lives with me had a stroke this week. He is actually making amazing progress, but I was scared to death when he got out of the hospital and I brought him home. He was extremely independent, and it felt like death of the way of life I had been living, and his independence. It’s been a rough week and I thought I couldn’t do this again…my mom passed two years ago after a long illness with Lewy body dementia. How will we set him up to shower? Will he regain his eyesight and strength to walk? (And yes, they are both coming back slowly!) But the universe and all my special spirit friends have lifted us up, showed us we will make a new path forward, and i feel a renewed strength and spiritual energy, my dad has a spiritual army, including my beautiful mom, helping him heal, giving him motivation to survive and thrive.
