Just got mine in the UK - took a week to arrive. I can endorse everything Ronald says - this is a beautiful model. The spirit lamp could be a bit more user friendly - I prefer the glass ones where you can see how full they are.

I agree Pete the spirit lamp can be challenging to refill. Besides Ronalds technique of injecting fuel into the breather hole, another method I have found was to take an x-acto knife and pry upwards along the seam, slowly working around the lid. The thin blade will allow you to open the cap quite easily. Good luck!

Back in the early ‘60’s I started my steam engine hobby. They were beautifully made German models, and due to my care and maintenance they are running like new to this day. Recently I’ve transitioned to the sterling engine designs. Your excellent demonstration lead me to obtain this very nice Chinese crafted model for myself. I thank you for this information Ronald!

Hi, This engine looks very similar to a Jerry Howell design named "Beamer"?
@RonaldWalters20102 жыл бұрын
I have no idea. I am not familiar with the Jerry Howell design.

I bought one of these recently and have an issue with it, the allen key screw that connects the two crank shafts to the flywheel keeps coming loose and eventually coming out when running the engine. If i tighten it the flywheel wont turn but if I leave it finger tight the crew just unscrews itself and falls out. Any idea what's going on because it started doing this on the first run.

The two connecting rods have brass fittings (one is a clevis type) and are meant to freely rotate on the hex head machine screw. Hopefully you did not try tightening it too tight to where the brass clevis is permanently deformed. The hex head machine screw, which attaches the two connecting rods to the flywheel, cannot be tightened too much or nothing will be able to move. I have never taken this apart (haven’t needed to) but it appears the hex head machine screw has a very tiny amount of Loctite (thread locker) on the threads… then you wait for it to dry. Be careful not to get any Loctite on the brass parts Hope that helps. Ron

Note: I was trying to do 6 things at once this morning. I have edited my earlier reply... they are connecting rods not crankshafts. Ron

difference between grease and oil? Properties wise?
@RonaldWalters20105 жыл бұрын
Oil is retained in place by its properties surface tension and viscosity and is good for the pins and shafts but tends to run off or get pushed off sliding surfaces. Grease is thickened oil. Grease will do a better job of staying in place on the sliding surfaces of the crosshead.

it might be interesting once its heated up to keep it heated with solar power.aka magnifying glass.
@RonaldWalters20104 жыл бұрын
It doesn't care what the heat source is... but the cold end would need to be cooled to maintain continuous operation.

Of the Stirling engines you have tested from banggood, is this one one of the best?
@RonaldWalters20105 жыл бұрын
It is certainly one of the best... a beautifully finished model. It is also one of the easiest to run and longest running, and very affordable. Use the link in the video description and you will get a good price. Thanks for watching!

Very interesting however I guess I don't understand the purpose of all these "engines" that have been shown. Do they have any particular use??
@RonaldWalters20105 жыл бұрын
Years ago there was a fairly large version used to pump water wells when farmers had no electricity. Portable generators, refrigeration, solar power generation, submarine propulsion, generators for deep space exploration probes and on and on. Look at Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applications_of_the_Stirling_engine
