Have you been able to eliminate mildew by using a 100% waterproof tarp. Also, how do you allow for ventilation while preventing rain or wind blown leaves, etc. from entering the boat? I purchased a canvas cover for my 18.5 ft. center console bay boat, which was advertised a 100% waterproof and "....you will never see mildew..." BS. A total disaster with extreme mildew under the cover. Therefore I am thinking of purchasing a 100% waterproof tarp with weighting 14 or 16 and size 12 x 20. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I have had no issue with any mildew on the inside of my tarp. It's the heavy, solid plastic material one from Princess Auto, /www.coversandall.ca/standard-size-covers/best-selling-tarps/heavy-duty-vinyl-tarps/heavy-duty-tarp-18oz-size-8x25-p?msclkid=fe0206f69b59139d6e1c63f32d580914&PMax_Bing_25thAug%2723%20-%20All%20Products&Asset%20Group%2001%20-%20All%20Products . To have air-flow I leave the outboard area open with the tarp just going over the top so that if I look from the engine up the boat it is all open. I have not had any issues with leaves, snow or rain in the boat by doing this...God bless you.

Nice job IL! I like the use of the PVC. I might try that next year. I currently use 3 posts made of 4x4 with a 4 way base support and have Lowes buckets on top. One forward, amidship and aft. ( I have a LUND 1875 Pro V Bass that is not nearly as much a hassle to cover. Also, I leave my boat outside all winter and have no problem with snow. I use a tarp (cheap one) as a first layer and then I use a Farm Machinery Tarp (waxed) that I picked up from TSC 13 years ago as the 2nd layer. No problems in 13 years! It does take a bit more time to set-up and take down but it's only twice a year. Thanks for the video. Great Idea!

A wonderfully creative solution Italo! I assume that you setup the PVC framework inside the boat before you throw the tarp over? Also, any tips for someone who doesn't have as particularly helpful of a wife? 😄
@ItaloLabignan2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, you have to set the frame up before you pull the tarp over. It takes a little to figure out length and curvature consideration before you cut the different sections. I just used a hack-saw to easily cut the plastic water pipe. I have also pulled the tarp up on my own. You just grab one corner of it as you get into the boat and pull it all the way over to the other side. Then I do the middle and lastly the front. I then get underneath it and try to space it so its centered over the boat. I get out of the boat and start using the rubber bungies to secure it. First the back corners, then the front (so I know it's balanced) and then I do the sides...God bless you.

I forgot to add that I did construct "ribs" to prevent water pooling with my canvas cover. That works very well, but has not prevented the mildew buildup under and on the canvas cover.
@ItaloLabignan Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear. I have not had any issues with mildew buildup under my cover. I used the extreme tarp from Princess Auto that is more like a heavy plastic then a woven material tarp or matted nylon tarp...God bless you.
