I typically buy a half dozen bars of Irish Spring hand soap. I cut the bars into quarters and distribute them all around the inside of the boat. Rodents hate the scent and it makes the whole boat smell pretty good to me plus if any of the soap does get wet, it can easily be washed out and won't stain anything.

Good video. I designed a simple pontoon rain & snow protector and has worked perfectly for the last 3 years. But the span of wood bows after a while. So I built using the same stands again but going to 3" abs. I am going to do a video tomorrow on it. We have a full factory cover we bought from Bentington boats but are harsh winters in norther Idaho would cave to the snow.

That's the idea. I've also seen it done with wood and metal frames. The 23 foot cabin boat I have has a hardtop roof, so it just gets shrink-wrapped. Another 18 foot bow rider I/O was so heavily vandalized, windows smashed, seats slashed, graffiti spray paint on the hull etc, I don't even bother covering it, and just leave the drain plug out. It fills up with leaves and snow, but then drains out in the spring. Nothing to lose, it was free with the purchase of the galvanized trailer it is sitting on.

I use gutters and boat cover supports under them to configure a frame. Works well here in Michigan winters!

I'm in Michigan too gutters?

If you get pipe end caps it saves you from having to wrap the ends of the uprights to stop scuffing of carpeted areas

8ft Framing 2x4's are around $8ea Make sure to use them on edge though not flat or they will bend/break.

Its a great idea but wouldnt it be better if the highest point was above the windscreen? A neighbor had his cracked because the snow was to heavy on the glass...

Throw a couple of mouse traps in as well! Mice will find their way in and make a hell of a mess, not to mention chewing through wires.

Good video and advice. I have a new old 17 ft bow rider and live in the mountains of Southern VT. Weighing my options. Not a lot of inside storage around here even in barns. However I have a nice gravel area I can leave it outside. Like you we get alot of snow. Did you do anything to reduce corrosion on the trailer?

I use some moisture capture bags inside, but that's about it.

looks good MC. I see you use 3 inch ABS. Have seen a number of other people use 1 1/2 ABS or PVC. Thinking of using 2 in ABS as it is about 1/2 the price as the 3 inch. Any thoughts about this. Was the 3 inch overkill or?. My boat is laid up in Northern Ontario so snow shedding is critical

I felt it was not complete overkill as the wider pipe presses into the tarp less... having said that - I expect 2" would be just fine.
@justchillinout20022 жыл бұрын
He shows 3" as the part online, but the example he shows is done with 1 1/2" ABS. Can be seen at about 1:35 in the video.

Did you add any kind of cover over the boat? Or simply just the tarp ?
